  1. FSX Grumman F6F5 VF27 Paul Drury

FSX Grumman F6F5 VF27 Paul Drury. This texture represents the F6F-5 Hellcat white 10, 'PAOLI LOCAL' of Ens Paul E Drury, VF-27, USS Princeton, 24 October 1944. This machine was not flown by its regular pilot, 6.5-kill ace Paul Drury, on 24 October. Such was the hurry to scramble VF-27's fighters, pilots strapped into whatever aircraft they could find serviceable-not that an unfamiliar cockpit put Drury off for he downed three fighters in the bloody clash. Named after a Philadelphia commuter train that he used to catch near his home, Drury's PAOLI LOCAL was flown into combat on this fateful day by recently-arrived replacement pilot Ens O L Scott, who was subsequently shot down and killed-VF-27's only aerial loss on this day. 12. FSX Grumman Hellcat I JV125 Stanley Orr

FSX Grumman Hellcat I JV125 Stanley Orr. This is a repaint (textures only) for the payware RealFlight F6F Hellcat. This repaint was made with the included paint kit by RealFlight. This texture represents the Hellcat I JV125 of Lt Cdr Stanley G Orr, No 804 Sqn, HMS Emperor, 14 May 1944. This drably marked Hellcat I was used by Lt Cdr Orr to attack a formation of He115 floatplanes off the coast of Norway on this date. Delivered to No 804 Sqn as an attrition replacement in early May following the units return from the April Tirpitz raids, JV125's service records are a little vague after its initial successes off Norway. Its only other entries of note whilst in FAA service were that it was delivered to Shorts of Belfast for repair following a Cat B accident in early 1945, and that it did not return to airworthiness until December that year. 13. FSX Grumman F6F3 CVAG5 James Flatley

FSX Grumman F6F3 CVAG5 James Flatley. This is a repaint (textures only) for the payware RealFlight F6F Hellcat. This repaint was made with the included paint kit by RealFlight. This texture represents the F6F-3 White 00/BuNo 04872 of Cdr James H Flatley, CVAG-5, USS Yorktown, 6 May 1943. Widley is respected as one of the Navy's outstanding combat leaders, 'Jimmy' Flatley flew this early-production F6F-3 while commanding Air Group 5 during carrier work-ups in mid-1943. Indeed, BuNo 04872 was the first ever aircraft to land aboard the second Yorktown, a feat it accomplished on the above-mentioned date. Note the '00' 'Double Nuts' modex, now recognized the world over as denoting the CAG's aircraft. The origin of this marking is a little vague, as most CAGs used the modex '99' to decorate their aircraft, with '00' then being used in Navy terminology to denote the admiral. Indeed, Flately used the callsign '99 Sniper' when airborne, so as to not to offend his ranking superiors who may be listening in. By Brian Hill.

  15. FSX US Navy North American P-51D

FSX US Navy North American P-51D Mustang (fictional). This repaint is for the payware A2A P-51 FSX update only and is a fictional depiction of the P-51D as a carrier-borne fighter in a post-war naval livery. It is entirely fictional; while the U. S. Navy experimented with the Mustang in carrier trials on board the USS 'Shangri La' in 1944, the type was considered unsuitable without major modification. The project was abandoned when the capture of Iwo Jima put 20th Air Force Mustangs within range of the Japanese homeland, thus eliminating the need for a carrier-borne long-range escort fighter. This repaint is based on the WWII Fighters paint kits by John Terrell and A2A. By Dave Quincey.

  16. FSX Grumman F6F3 VF27 Stambook

FSX Grumman F6F3 VF27 Stambook. This is a repaint (textures only) for the payware RealFlight Grumman F6F Hellcat. This repaint was made with the included paint kit by RealFlight. This texture represents the F6F-3 White 17 of Lt Richard Stambook, VF-27, USS Princeton, 24 October 1944. Stambook was VF-27's third highest scorer on their 1944 deployment, having claimed his final kill (a 'Nick') six days prior to Princetons sinking. A seasoned pilot by the time he saw combat with VF-27 in 1944. 'Dick' Stambook had earlier served with VS-3 on Dauntlesses and VF-6 and VF-3 on Wildcats. By Brian Hill.

Taken on charge in April 1945, it saw little action and spent most of its life in Germany as part of the occupation force. 24. FSX Martin-Baker MB.5

FSX Martin-Baker MB.5. First flown in 1944, the Martin-Baker M.B.5 was the fifth in a series of experimental prototype fighter aircraft. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon 83 engine, the plane's performance was instantly impressive, with excellent handling qualities and a high top speed of over 460 mph. Pilots who flew it generally raved about the handling, going so far in some cases as to call it the finest-handling fighter ever made. The type used an innovative steel-tube framework which was said to simplify maintenance and add strength. However, in the event, a contract was never awarded and the M.B.5 became another of those great aircraft never to be mass-produced. Includes both military and racer variants. Original model by Alphasim. Updated to FSX by Danny Garnier.
