FSX P-38 Lightning "Fear The Reaper". This is David C. Copley's Lockheed P38 Lightning modified for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. In 1937, the US Army Air Force expressed a need for a new high-altitude fighter design. The Lockheed Company answered the call with their first military airplane, the XP-38, which first flew on 27 January 1939. This experimental prototype was shortly followed by full-scale production of the P-38D, which was equipped with one 37mm gun and four 12.7mm (0.5 inch) guns in the nose. This aircraft includes Mel Mutter's P-38 panel. Also includes history and pictures of the actual aircraft. Textures by Mark Rooks of RSDG Aircraft.2,332 downloads

FSX P-51D 78th FG Duxford 1945. This file contains two textures for aircraft of the 78th FG at Duxford in 1945, Capt. Richard Hewitts 'Big Dick' and Lt. Hubert Davis's 'Twilight Tear'. The latter is famous for being one of the very few 8th AAF aircraft currently in its wartime livery. Currently under restoration in Chino CA. FSX P-51D 'Cookie' 359th FG. This file contains two versions of P-51D-5-NA 44-13762 flown by Lt John T. Gordon, 359th FG East Wretham 1944/45. The first is from summer/autumn 1944 in early 339th FG markings with D-Day stripes. The second is from spring 1945 and represents the aircraft at the end of hostilities with the later 359th FG green nose. It was lost on 25th July 1945 in a fatal training accident and was the last P-51D lost by the 359th. FSX Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket. The Skyrocket first flew in 1940 and was very fast and otherwise advanced for its time. The Navy decided it wasn't interested in twin engine fighters and it was not mass produced. Grumman did use lessons learned from this prototype to later develop the very successful F7F Tigercat series. This is a native FSX Acceleration project. It has .dds textures, specular shine, reflective glass, etc. The VC has working instruments and animated flight controls. There is no 2D panel. The Curtiss Wright AT9 Jeep was a twin-engined advanced trainer aircraft used by the United States during World War II to bridge the gap between single-engine trainers and twin-engine combat aircraft. The AT-9 was of a low-wing cantilever monoplane configuration, had retractable landing gear and was powered by two Lycoming R-680-9 radial engines. Wallace of the 434th FS, 479th FG based at Wattisham in 1944. Lt. Wallace lost his life in the aircraft on August 15th 1944. FSX Lockheed P-38J 'Texas Ranger'. This is a repaint of the Flight Simulations Design (FSD) Lockheed P-38 Lightning to represent P-38J-10-LO 42-67825 'Texas Ranger IV' flown by 55th FG CO Col. Jack Jenkins. On April 10th 1944 Col. Jenkins was shot down in this aircraft on the Group's first 'Droop-Snoot' bombing raid on Coulmniers airfield in Northen France. Having dived from 20,000 feet for a low-level strafing run, a fogged-up windscreen spoilt his aim. Alerted AAA gunners brought him down on his second pass. He survived as a POW. This texture represents the Tempest Mk N JN862 of Flt Lt R Van Lierde, No 3 Sqn, Newchurch, June 1944. 'Mony' Van Lierde followed a very successful tour on Typhoons with a posting to No 3 Sqn as a flight commander, flying Tempests. In the summer of 1944 he became the most successful pilot, by day, against V1 flying bombs, claiming 44 destroyed. Most of his claims were made while flying his personal aircraft, JN862. This texture represents the Tempest Mk V JN751 of Wing Cdr R P Beamont, OC No. 150 Wing, Newchurch, June 1944. One of the first Tempests in operational service, JN751 was allocated to No 3 Sqn on 16 March 1944, but was adopted by the Wing Commander Flying, No 150 Wing, R P Beamont, as his personal mount. FSX Grumman F6F3 VF32 Hollis Hills. This is a repaint (textures only) for the Vertigo Studios (formerly known as RealFlight) Grumman F6F Hellcat. This repaint was made with the included paint kit. This texture represents the F6F-3 white 5/BuNo 40315 of Lt Hollis 'Holly' Hills, VF-32, USS Langley, 30 April 1944. Having already earned a place in the history books by scoring the first ever kill in a Mustang, Hollis Hills became a naval aviator in late 1942, and helped form VF-32. He considered himself to be a good shot, and had a chance to show his ability when his new unit went into combat in 1944. Employing German 'Yo-Yo' tactics of diving into a target, making one firing pass and then using his speed to quickly regain altitude, Hills used this aircraft, callsign 'Steele 5', to down three Zekes over Truk Atoll on 29 April.
