  10. FSX Spitfire FR MKIX MK716

FSX Spitfire FR MKIX MK716. Textures (32 bit) for the RealAir Spitfire 2008 Mark IX. During Operation Market Garden in autumn 1944 several 16 Sqn FR Mk IXs were painted camotint pink for low-level oblique photography over the Arnhem area, a livery which provided excellent camouflage near sunset or sunrise on cloudy days. FR IXs were standard, armed Mk IXs modified with a single, port-facing oblique camera. They also dropped pictures or messages placed in old 44 gallon-size drop tanks released near ground level and were used for low altitude "Dicing" missions in tactical support of army operations. Textures by Grant MacLean/Sean Moloney/RealAir. (See also SPITFR2.ZIP)

  15. FSX RAS2008 Mk IX HAF BF273

FSX RAS2008 Mk IX HAF BF273. Alternative, light grey-blue textures for the RealAir Spitfire 2008 Mark IX High Altitude Flight's BF273 aircraft. Some sources describe this livery for BF273 (rather than the default's dark blue) but whichever, they both show off the beautiful lines of RealAir's model. On 12 September 1942 this aircraft, flown by Flying Officer Emanuel Galitzine, a Russian prince, fought the highest air battle of WW2. Flying BF273 he intercepted a Junkers JU86R above Southampton at 41,000 feet. The battle continuing up to 43,000 feet. Although Galitzine's cannon jammed and the Junkers escaped with just one hit, it was enough for the Luftwaffe to cease high altitude attacks against England. DXT5 textures by Grant MacLean.
