  1. The year, like in all sim versions, or a number, like in XP, Windows versions, or P3D Vx, is a reference that we need to place the sim in s time context and as years go by this is very important
  2. My system is i5 and GTX1060 3gb and i fly with high-end settings at 30fps In clear skies no traffic ai Install geforce experience, and add MSFS2020 to the GeforceE box Are nvidia drivers updated to 252? check if your monitor has Freesync, HDR check if your PC is running programs in the background
  3. The first year people use the year because iits new, specially to non simmers, if i send a video to a friend so that to introduce him the news about the new sim Is say here look at the new MSFS 2020 so that he is aware its been released recently, this year In 2021 onwards it will be known as MSFS
  4. You might have AI Control. Your Copilot is Flying, you released the brakes...he took off And in Assistance - Piloting check take-off assistance
  5. In Allflightmods site there are 60 addons more from yesterday to today. Mostly landmarks or improvements in specific scenery. The wonderful thing about MSFS is that sceneries are being created by users in an ant-type small contribution way. You dont need to download them now, (an addition of a landmark in a city you dont even know is not big deal) But later, someone will compile all these little addons by city, and it will payoff. Today somebody added Buckingham Palace for London for example (which was not even depicted in payware London City by orbx). So imagine thousand of contributions. City sceneries will be free and at unprecedented detail Besides payware only tackles big known cities. The user input (as they grow per country and region) will enhance their regional surroundings
  6. have you logged on another account recently? make sure you are logged on to microsoft on Edge, Explorer or MS Store with the same account you used to buy it. Or in Xbox/Steam if applicable. And check your internet connection is active
  7. correct, exactly! if theres a sudden reduction of radio altimeter it thinks you are descending
  8. No its not a nuisance, unless you have never been in a Boeing cockpit in the late 70s i used to go with my Dad in “training flights” in a 707. in those days there were no simulators so training was in a real airplane flying above the airport or over non populated areas. take off with engine failure, landing with one engine out, simulating fire alarms etc. He was a 707 Captain and instructor, trained in Seattle in early 70s, in 1977 we jumped to the 747-200 in certain attitudes the recorder triggers “dont sink” dont sink, its like a friend next to you giving you advice, your VS is too high, you are sinking, apply power...dont sink, lower or raise your nose depending on the situation The rule is that if you hear this alarm dont sink immediately you need to apply power. Its a critical situation. If you have an engine failure or in special conditions of speed and atitude and vertical descent. If you are repeatedly hearing this alarm, you are not flying properly. And because the sound of “dont sink” over a bad speaker sometimes gets into our brain as “dont think” its very emphatic. Dont think, just act! Apply power now!
  9. Of course you can, and you should Its part of a pilot skill, knowing how to fly without outside view just following his instruments to avoid spatial disorientation. And remember, one thing is today's situation, only real just recently but the world has always moved in GA without autopilot. I took my PP license in 1978 and for decades autopilot was something only present in airliners. And of those GA that had autopilot it was mostly used in cruise flight, all approaches were done with the pilot concentrated and holding ine hand in the yoke and the other the throttle If ILS available you manually align it with the LOC and when the glide is at 0 degrees and starting to go down you hit APP but disconect as soon as you make contact with the runway
  10. Why go in external view? Its IMC, learning how to control an airplane without having external view is one of the great skills we can learn in a simulator, to beat spatial disorientation, a cause of so many accidents with real pilots that didnt acquired the skill properly Thats why I love those big professional simulators with a cabin and hydraulics that cost hundreds of dollars one hour. Why? Cause there is no cheating, no external view, no Auto-do-everything
  11. Yep, only got Fs2002 right haha But what a great plane I almost forgot about it I have seen no versions in paywares of p3d fsx or xplane
  12. I was busy making a flight in 747-800 All manual, no autopilot. Very impressed, slow response of the controls. At 5000ft level 250 kts theres no use trying to pull back the stick to gain altitude without applying power. At lower speeds you start to lose altitude unless 1 flap is applied, which inproves control. Landed smoothly bringing speed down to 210/200/180 flaps 5/10/15 then 165 25flap and full at 300ft In no other sim I have felt such a "heavy" feeling in the controls of a 747 very nice challenging I bet to many it will be impossible to land manually hope they install replay in the next patch
  13. Back in 2D days Fs2002 and Fs2004 and didnt like any cockpit available from any developer. So I did my own using free copyright gauges. Here is my 747 cockpit and a B767 with different lightning settings you could adjust the color with a knob
  14. Mark, nice setup for those days I coulndt recognize what plane is, I know its 2D cockpit probably from Fs2002 looks a four engine but since its not similar to any four engine cockpit that i know of, its difficult to tell. It doesnt llok like the 707 or dc8, nor 747 or A340
  15. I have Vsync off cause my monitor has Freesync that manages this automatically, thats why I have high end settings (1980x1080) in an i5 7400 Gtx1060 with just 3gb sometimes having a good monitor helps a weak gpu
  16. Seeing lots of sceneries, or better say landmarks from different spots around the world in some sites Each needs to be downloaded in community. Some are large size some small containing just a few buildings If you happen to live in that city in particular or frequently fly to, fine. Other than that, no way Im going to start adding, I dont fly to a city just to watch a sports arena someone uploaded. We fly because we have a life history with that place or a past flight etc. What would be interesting are the (addon of addons compilation), if after a year someone compiles all main world cities contributions, that would be interesting. For the time being both are a waste of time: excess of liveries and loose landmarks of points you ll never be flying to.
  17. I see some reasons to chose Its annoying and confusing having to get used to both keyboard settings and ways... It takes time to have in your head the different shortcut for things, or even tweaking and file editing. You will notice with time if you have both you ll end using mainly one. When thinking "I could try this on the other sim", get lazy or quit early because forgotten keys or steps and that drains the energy for fun Another reason are addons. Investing or learning. For trial or random flying two are bearable, when simming gets serious you want to tie the knot :)
  18. This is because you havent been around from the start in all earlier versions Fs9, Fsx and P3d Even last month, few planes could be used with P3Dv5 besides it keeps crashing everytime unless you have more than 8gb vram When released all above mentioned had nothing but crappy default planes It takes 6 months for all the planes and addons (real airline Ai traffic, bether Ai weather, planes, crew addons etc) to start appearing
  19. Great comparison. My XPlane friends told me about ortho4xp How does ortho4xp compares to MS in elevation terrain, when there are hills or mountains all over? Anyway, Im not going into the fuss of downloading little corners of the world anymore Ive been there in Tileproxy days The greatness of MSFS is being able to fly around anywhere and the scenery just pops. Im a guy that enjoys the surprise, the be-wilderness of choosing a place to fly and looking around, not having gone thru a tedious process of previously downloading tiles (which usually covers small spots) or take months to build large areas Once you get used to it, you dont want to download tiles anymore. As I said, XPlane needs a deal with google
  20. Hi Roy, I also look upon you and hope to be simming at 89 I agree with you that scenery is not the same as Google earth, to me one thing that ruins it is autogen, although it has improved a lot from fsx MSFS scenery is much better than any scenery of other sims. At least that. And you can install freeware handcrafted scenery that is growing by the day. +500 landmark or scenery as of today. Imagine in a year, there will be large cities all compiled with corrected landmarks and buildings Competition is a healthy reality that benefits us Xplane 11.5 is still in the race If Xplane manages a deal with google I think I will be running both sims until I chose one that takes the lead. If I were Austin I would be sleeping at Google s door. Its his shortcut to victory
  21. Addons for MSFS2020 are being on the table across developpers. So far NONE has been released. They have to make it full xml, which they dont like because the security parameters were all embedded in gau or dll files. They have to use DRM and this learning-adapting means re-designing all the gau gauges in xml. Then they must integrate the FMC if the plane has one, so I reckon that releasing classic planes with no Garmin and no FMC and a basic autopilot would be much easier Frankly, I dont know why would it take so much work-time to launch some planes, the xml format is easier to set, test, config, change. Im glad MSFS is forcing everyone to leave the gau and dll formats for good (closed and obscure in their format) Besides this is not knew. FSX and P3D already indicated the xml was the way to go, but all developpers kept making gau and dll gauges
