  1. Thanks for that information. I checked out the MS STORE app and noticed you can purchase and download from there. Tricky (way of purchasing) - I have to get my head around the fact that Windows has apps as well and Android. I might have ended up with download problems (using a browser) like some others seem to have encountered. Lastly can I rely on not having to be in front of my PC during the download (eg go to bed) and check the 'progress' many hours later maybe even some hours after the download has ended? BTW why are you still awake?
  2. One thing which has almost concerned me, especially with some threads I have read in the past, is installing as an Administrator and what browser to use. I assume that the use of EDGE (browser) is best or MUST it be used to ensure a worry free download/install? The MS web page also states "Administrator approval required for installation" which made me wonder how that is achieved. Either run EDGE as administrator OR does the download prompt the user to install as an administrator? Is there documentation to improve chances of a worry free download/install? I couldn't find any with a 'search' Location still has me intrigued and I am thinking North America rather than Europe due to the time difference.
  3. Thanks Loki, You have just thrown another 'spanner into the works' for me, maybe I need to go for the download and 'hope for the best'. Regarding updates, does the latest download version contain the released updates or do they have to be downloaded separately? Surely is does as I hate to think how long installation will take in the future when there might be multiple updates each needing a separate lengthy download. My FSX came on (only) two DVDs and even that took some time to install depending on what areas of the world you wanted scenery for installed PLUS (separate) SP2 PLUS (separate) SP2. I don't have the internet connection 'problem' the the Undertaker has (ADSL - wow I feel sorry for him as all of Australia was supposed to be on NBN cable by the end of this year) where a download would be be feasible. The 'penny just dropped' as to your registered location (getting warmer now) which I now think suggests you live in the southern hemisphere where the weather is getting warmer (spring) - am I getting 'warmer'? Don't be shy now.
  4. Thanks. That certainly helps especially describing what is in the manuals. Thanks also for advising that installation using disks was without problems. I am still trying to decide when I will purchase and will almost certainly purchase disks rather than a download as I have read too many posts/threads from people who have had problems with downloading. Sure there are also information how to get around any problems but I just don't want to have any possible problems. Regarding usb sticks. Not sure if I can remember any software being distributed on usb sticks. Also is possible to accidentally erase the contents of usb sticks BUT they certainly may result in a faster installation, and ceratainly less media swaps (1 instead of 9)
  5. Most people, including myself, are quick to criticize and slow to commend
  6. I cannot understand why MS did not include a manual in PDF form with the download version. Most if not all software even boxed sets comes with an electronic form of their manual (which I hate but at least it exists).
  7. I wonder if many negative comments are from those who like me wonder why many of the 'problems/issues' weren't discovered during beta testing. Isn't beta testing supposed to 'discover' bugs? Maybe MS only chose people with a a thorough knowledge of FSX (or earlier) instead of including some "mums and dads" (if you know what I mean). I remember when those YouTube videos started to appear most (well all the ones I watched), they all only seemed to 'talk about' how the scenery was so great. Was that all they tested?
  8. It confused me too BUT it seems to be a freeware scenery addon available for download here. TRy this link https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=79705470 OR Go to the File Library (drop down menu) and select Search Files then leave the Search Only File Section as All File Sections and enter the following into the Filename section - sydharbourbridgev2.zip You will need to 'unzip' the downloaded file and it will contain a file describing what to do. BTW it seems the 'community folder' is located as follows - C:\Users\__YourUserName__\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community I hope this helps.
  9. Oh No! Show us a picture of what you mean and explain (ie is it the actual bridge, where it meets the land either side, Circular Quay or what?)
  10. Isn't there an electronic copy of the manual which comes with the download version (sorry I don't have the download version so don't know). Sure a printed manual is desirable but difficult to send via the internet. If there is NOT an electronic copy is this because MS 'forgot' to include it (and so should now be part of a downloadable 'patch'/upgrade) or some other ulterior reason? Whatever the reason it doesn't do anything for MS.
  11. What a pity MS couldn't have included the amphibian version to the C172 as XP did. All that was needed was the floats instead of undercarriage (modelling), and change of aircraft variants such as the undercarriage/floats dimensions which IMHO wouldn't have been too difficult. The Spruce Goose would have been a bit of overkill I think as it never flew too much - I was luckly to be able to visit the Evergreen Aircraft Museum in Oregon last year and see it.
  12. FIRSTLY these are only suggestions and maybe some more learned members can advise a better method. Can you UNINSTALL what you already have OR remove DELETE the folder where FS2020 in installed to. and then restart the download from the beginning?
  13. IT would have been good if there had been one of the 'workhorse' amphibious aircraft like are still used in many parts of Canada as well as that 'sports' amphibious aircraft. I guess there will be a 3rd party one eventually.
  14. It is available on DVDs but only in selected places in the world. Available here in Australia. Check Ebay.
  15. I wonder what the 'timetable' is for the next patch and what it should include? I would be nice if MS had a 'list' of what 'issues' it is working on.
  16. If the boxed version comes with a (printed) manual then why doesn't the download version come with an electronic version of the manual (pdf)?
  17. Thanks never thought of that maybe because it didn't seem very exciting (compared to say unboxing some hardware/gear). It DID reveal that the Premium edition comes with TWO manuals, one a hard cover (Premium Deluxe Guide) and the other a soft cover (Manual) which begs the question what does the 'Premium Deluxe Guide' have in it. Unless I can find a downloadable guide I think I will go for the boxed version just to get the manual.
  18. Thanks for your reply. Good to know that you had no problems. I understand that the boxed edition comes with a user manual. Is the manual any good? I guess it is small to fit with a DVD case. What of the printing, is that small to read? How many pages? Is it a throwaway item or worth having? Thanks
  19. For interest I checked the FSX forum and noted the dates of threads started in 2005 the year FSX was released. I only looked at the titles/headings for the first 100 or so but I didn't notice any threads titled with anything which suggested to me that users were having problems like we read here for FS2020. With all the months (years?) of anticipation including supposed testing by beta testers I wonder why people are having so many issues (I won't say problems)? Could it be MS never issued a test plan (list of things to test for) to the beta testers? The same can be said about the new London scenery released by ORBX which looks worse than the default 2020 scenery. Did they too release before it was evaluated by the 'experts'. Yes they are "working on that problem" but why was it a problem to start with. It is glaringly noticable. What we need to read here or elsewhere is estimate of when the next updates will be issued to give us something to look forward to.
  20. Have you seen the ORBX release of London scenery (search in Youtube)? Looks terrible (low resolution textures, roads with crazy steepness etc etc) and everyone who comments says the same. I hope that the 3rd paty aircraft are better.
