  1. Definitely correct. Arctic Silver 5 is supposed to be really good (around $A15) also Cooler Master HTK-002 (around $A10)
  2. Have you tried pressing CTRL 1, CTRL 2 etc (ie hold down the CTRL key then press the 1 key on the TOP of the keyboard (ie the one marked ! and 1). These are pre-assigned to particular views of part of the instrument panel for the Beechcraft King Air and so I suspect also the 172.
  3. Thanks. That is what I thought but needed confirmation. Regarding the 'drawn' flight plan and that parts of it are sometimes displayed in magenta. Consider the following image. When I took off this section was displayed in magenta as shown, after a few minutes as the aircraft was turning towards the flight path to intercept it, the line changed to white and then a few minutes later it changed to magenta again. After the aircraft passed the first custom waypoint that section remained as magenta and the next section remained white even when half from the first waypoint to the next waypoint. This happens much the same at the end of the flight, the last section changes to magenta but the sections already flown have never changed to magenta. I am wondering what this (change to magenta) signifies.
  4. Thanks Tim. I have also noticed that the aircraft doesn't always follow the 'lines' drawn on the map between my custom waypoints (which doesn't always link all the custom waypoints) BUT it always flies close to the custom waypoints. When I first noticed this it was a little off putting thinking that the autopilot (NAV) wasn't working until I noticed the aircraft flying close to those custom waypoints. One think though which puzzles me is that the flightpath (between waypoints) doesn't always change to magenta as the aircraft in in that section of the flight path. The first leg is usually colored magenta and also the last leg before transition and then the legs in the approach - maybe that is the answer.
  5. I have noticed at least twice in the past that the auto pilot in the Beechcraft King Air didn't seem to work and it has just happened again. Here is the scenario - Flight plan loaded (via load/save) Flight plan verified in the G3000 Approach loaded in the G3000 and visually verified On the auto pilot panel - FD set ON NAV set ON YD set ON Initial ALTitude set to 4500 VS set to +800 Take off Gear up Flaps up AP set ON (altitude at the time around 1000) The aircraft did NOT follow the flight plan and just headed around the same heading as the runway The altitude continued to climb past 4500 even though 4500 was set and AP was ON. I can't remember if I checked that the CDI was set to FMS but in the past I have never seen it set to anything else but FMS on startup. Am I doing something incorrect or is there a problem?
  6. Remember heats rises so IMHO any case fan at the top of the case should be facing out ie EXHAUST.
  7. Not sure if this has been mentioned but what CPU cooler do you have? Is it the stock CPU cooler fan? I once had a CPU which ran hot and found that there are better 3rd party cpu cooler fans which I purchased and fitted and the average temperature of the cpu went down (cooler) by about 10C.
  8. Looking at a screen shot from the G3000 after loading the approach (ILS 28 Z) and the ILS-Z chart (below) would the place to ACTIVATE to approach be at BUVLO?
  9. Thanks Tin and Pramod, I thank you for your information and interest in my question. I thought later that perhaps the approach was probably not activated until close to an airport. If no ATC would that then be at the transition point?
  10. Still learning how to program a flight plan and approach using the G3000. I have created a flightplan containing a few custom waypoints to create a scenic flight in my local area. When I load the flight plan and view it in the map view in the G3000 it displays all the legs correctly. If I select select an approach and the select LOAD all the legs are still displayed correctly. If I select ACTIVATE APPROACH many of the legs are changed and although the custom waypoints are still displayed the flight plan doesn't necessarily fly to each waypoint and so my scenic flight using autopilot is lost. Is this normal? I assume that approach in the real world is probably only activated by the pilot when near to the destination - about where does a pilot normally activate the approach? This is something I have not picked up on when watching video tutorials. Thanks
  11. Thanks Mr Zippy, Yes I had found that thread on the MSFS forum but I wasn't sure how accurate it was as it only contains replies some of which contradicted others AND the dates in this thread are just a month after release where there were possibly (and mentioned) bugs which now have been corrected (I think). I do agree with the explanation of what each file contains. I can only assume that the reason why a custom waypoint is not saved in the .PLN as it is not a real 'navigation instruction'. Since my last post I have also found that loading one of the file 'types' does not always display the ILS 'beacon' even when NAVIGATION AIDS are ON. Maybe another bug? There is no (MS) official user guide for FS2020 but is there any documentation in SDK?
  12. I have just noticed another difference which I find annoying If the original flight plan included a CUSTOM waypoint then the .FLT file contains it whereas the .PLN file it is lost.
  13. I have noticed that when a flight plan is saved it creates both a .PLN and .FLT file whereas 3rd party flight planners only seem to create a .PLN file. I have noticed one difference between the two and that is - Loading a .FLT flight plan has the SAME departure runway as was when the flightplan was saved and it displays in a 'window' Free Flight, Departure runways, Runway length, runway elevation whereas Loading a .PLN flight plan appears to set the departure runway according to the current weather. I have found on the FS2020 web site the following - The flight plan file (.PLN file) contains only navigation instructions, nothing else. The .FLT file contains the .PLN file navigation instructions but also all other variables like aircraft type, weather, time etc. Are there any other differences? And what is the 'criteria' for loading one or the other? Thanks
  14. Thanks Tim I am learning. I had added extra waypoints on the flight plan after the initial flight plan was created by Simbrief by editing the waypoints made before exporting for FS2020 (I know that you use Little NavMap which I am looking at) not realising that the G3000 could add the (star) approach as I did not like what FS2020 was doing when I selected the ILS approach. I put it down to creeping OA :(
  15. I am wondering the correct method of creating a flight plan externally from FS2020 to later be loaded and approach added. Should the flight plan ONLY contain waypoints between the departure and arrival airports and NOT any manually added waypoints to allow the aircraft to join the airport circuit with downwind leg, base leg etc and then allow the G3000 to add a selected approach? Also if I select the ILS approach (instead of leaving it at automatic) my flightplan approach is replaced with what I consider a strange approach - refer the following images - the first shows the approach when ILS approach is selected, the second image shows the approach from my loaded flight plan with approach left as automatic. Should the approach be set to automatic and adding an approach using the G3000? Is that the correct method?
  16. Thanks Tim I had not noticed any of the authors of other video tutorials point out the GS 'bug' on the GS3000 screen (left of the altitude display). I just found another video tutorial created shortly after FS2020 was released pointing out some bugs in the ils but also explaining very well about the GS. There is a link to it in this post https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?325955-Garmin-G3000
  17. I have 'come from' using the Zibo B737 in Xplane with a PDF which displays 'diamonds' when the localiser has been 'captured' and also indicates if the aircraft is above or below the glide slope. I cannot find anything in video tutorials on indeed on the PFD of the Beechcraft KIng Air to indicate the localizer and glide slope indicators. Are there any? If not is it just left up to the pilot to ensure the aircraft is below the glide slope when the aircraft is in range?
  18. Thanks Tim Didn't think of that however I am thinking that flying tips may not associated with a particular aircraft and rather just aircraft type (prop) which would include slower aircraft. If so it is a pity.
  19. I am trying to learn how to control this aircraft correctly but it keep telling me that my airspeed is above 135 knots and to raise the nose to lower it yet my IAS is (usually) only around 185-190 knots (with flaps RAISED). Surely this is not too fast for this aircraft so why does am I constantly informed that my airspeed is above 135? I have watched at least 3 different Youtube videos for the MSFS2020 Kingair and in each I see an ias of at least 200 yet no warning that the aircraft is above 135 knots.
  20. Thanks for that. That is one of the video tutorials I watched to learn Little NavMap - and what an excellent tool it (NavMap) is. BTW I have no idea how I managed to include the image of the error which belonged to another thread I had created  - sorry for that.
  21. Thanks mrzippy Firstly I do not have a 'data cap' - well not to my knowledge I don't Secondly the article states the following - Sign out of the Microsoft Store App, the Xbox App, the Xbox Companion app, and Microsoft Flight Simulator I could NOT find a method to sign out of FS2020 as when I selected QUIT from what I can remember there was no option presented to quit (next time it happens I will ensure I take note) and as such FS2020 just attempted to restart automatically (from 'checking for updates') and on the third time it fully started. I will write down EVERYTHING next time.
  22. This morning after reading some threads here I decided to startup FS2020 and part way through the loading I received the following error message - When I selected QUIT it displayed You have been signed out from Xbox Press any key to start It then continued and attempted to load again only to end with the same error. Third time lucky it started ok. As I had been reading threads immediately before I assumed the problem was not with my internet connection but a problem with the servers. My question - Someone please explain what exactly happened and if the servers remain not reachable how do I start FS2020?
  23. Thanks everyone. I now know that I need to select OPEN FILTERS and SET NAVAIDS ON EVERYTIME I start FS2020 which is a nuisance. I would have thought that the user should be able to toggle this ON and OFF at will. I also notice that this results in an icon displayed near the approach of each runway which has an ILS AND that they are 'named' such as ISS, ISB, ISY, ISW and I have no idea what it represents. IMHO Would have been nice to have a 'feather' displayed. I also assumed (verified by you as correct) that the flight plan from NavMap can be exported to FS2020 and need to find out/work out how to load such a flight plan and expect the video tutorial I download will reveal that to me. Thanks again
