  1. That (try it out with gamepass) seems a very good idea but does that mean if you decide the purchase there would be two full downloads or is the gamepass restricted to certain (world) locations and aircraft type and so a smaller download?
  2. The more I read threads such as this one the further back I put my decision to purchase or not. I was going to purchase and download on the first day (18 August) but decided that "every person and their dog" would be attempting to down and that the download server might cause 'problems'. I am now glad that I did. I also read threads on XPlane forums from people who state that (so far) Laminar doesn't have anything to worry about. What happened to all the testing done by beta testers? Did they come across any of these 'issues'?
  3. I am assuming that there is a file containing the user setup for a joystick (eg Joystick Preferences or Joystick Settings). If that file is not copyright protected it would be good if someone who has the Logitech 3D Pro joystick posts that file to the 'file library' here for MSFS2020 (there isn't an area setup yet but I'm sure it will come very soon).
  4. I would have thought that MSFS2020 is quite cpu/processor intensive and as such would choose a PC/laptop with a faster CPU. 16GB is not huge but you would then end up with a system which is recommended rather than one which is minimum requirements for CPU. Whenever I see this question type raised the usual answers are to divert as much money as can to a faster CPU and GPU (video card) before considering other things as they affect fps (frames per second) more than other things. As already pointed out RAM is relatively cheap and you may be able to upgrade the RAM later. Do both laptops have the same video card? It also is important as already pointed out.
  5. Firstly I live where I can order online the boxed version of MSFS2020. After reading of so many people having problems downloading and not just the time it takes but also stopping and having to restart I wonder if I should purchase the boxed version. I know that there is a downside to the boxed version and that is disk 1 needs to be in the (DVD) drive to operate MSFS2020 but are there any other reasons why one version might be better than the other? One downside of the download version would be that if you get another PC or another drive to use (unlikely) the download would need to be done again (unless it can be copied/backed up). Are there any readers who purchased the boxed version and can advise if they have experienced any problems? I have cable internet with an average download speed of around 45Mbps which I know is also at the 'mercy' of the download server speed especially if heaps of others are trying to download at the same time but at 45Mbps it should take nearly 5 hours so I expect it would take longer than this.
  6. Mr Zippy is a champion however his link is found on page 2 of that thread https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?324219-Keyboard-reference-sheet/page2 HOWEVER it won't allow me to download the PDF file and if I attempt to use Microsoft print to PDF I only get part of it. Any ideas Mr Zippy? (added later) Aha I signed up and then was able to download it.
  7. I keep reading this (boxed set only available in Europe) but it IS AVAILABLE in AUSTRALIA from The Gamesmen and City of Games either directly from them of via their listings on the Australian Ebay site.
  8. What version of Windows 10 are you running? Type the word UPDATE in the search window bottom left of screen Click on CHECK FOR UPDATES Click on OS BUILD INFO Scroll to bottom and the Windows VERSION installed will be displayed - it should be 2004
  9. Firstly I am only the bringer of news. I have not yet purchased FS2020 (I am just sitting back to see if anyone has problems or are dissatisfied) but after reading many threads from people having problems I accidentally came across the following Youtube video which may assist. First thing the author mentioned is to ENSURE you have Windows 10 version 2004 installed (which also is mentioned elsewhere in this forum) BUT when I checked my system (enter UPDATE in the search window and then select CHECK FOR UPDATES) it displayed that I WAS up to date (very annoying) but searching my system for the exact version it displayed 1903! There is a link on the 'check for updates' screen to download and install 2004 OR you can download the installer from Microsoft. WARNING - the Windows update process can take quite some time. And the video is
  10. The average write speed of a HDD is 80-160 Mbps so an SSD drive should make downloads faster if your internet speed if more than that. Hey how long does MSFS 2020 take to load after clicking on the desktop icon to run it using an SSD drive?
  11. Search the internet for an internet speed test app. Here in Australia I use https://www.speedtest.net/ which might also work in other countries.
  12. Do you mean 450 Mbps internet speed? That is exceptionally fast. The fastest we can get here in Australia is 90 Mbps. Using https://downloadtimecalculator.com/ and entering (internet speed) 45 Mbps and (file size) 90GB it calculates 4 hours 52 minutes but there are many factors (holdups between your PC and the download server including the server) which would prevent you downloading at a constant 45 Mbps. If in fact you had a contant 450Mbps (not GB) it would take 28 minutes.
  13. I am not surprised that with so many people attempting to download at around the same time that the servers ground to a halt. It's like when a highway with 4 lanes reduces to just 3 lanes - a 'bottleneck'. All that hipe, a lot of it via the Youtube videos which make us not want to wait any longer. Sit back, have a coffee and wait for a while. I know am considering purchasing via the 'boxed edition' even though I have read that disk one needs to be in the drive for it it work. At least the only 'bottleneck' will be the DVD drive. Also I am surprised that even though there appeared to be a very long testing phase of the entire project that there are many 'issues' being uncovered so quickly.
  14. I have been reading quite a few threads relating to download problems. On the ORBX website (forum) I read the following - It turns out, on my machine, I have to have the XBox Game Pass installed. So I went into the Microsoft store and installed the XBox beta. I have left that open in the background and made sure I was logged into the store. Then launched MSFS 2020, again, as Admin. Success, it took me through the screens for where to install etc and as I type it is now downloading. I did not bother with an actual Game Pass subscription. I just installed the app. I hope this helps. As for me I will wait a while before I decide to pay and download.
  15. I am glad I decided to sit back and watch. I couldn't wait to get this but now maybe I will wait to see what people are experiencing. Maybe there is an update ready which will download when it is first run.
  16. Of course it is and I won't tell her you told us. It's OUR secret guys ok?
  17. Once again "horses for courses". Obviously you are very interested in all those addon aircraft but for "moi" I am very happy with what comes with the Standard version. If someone releases the B738 I could be interested in that as an addon but its not included in the Deluxe anyway. I wonder why so many single engined aircraft and not more twins and jets?
  18. Don't get me wrong I can't wait to "get my hands on" this. I was just flying with XP and the scenery is so bland compared wth what I see with FS2020. I have lost count of the number of Youtube videos I have watched BUT every one I watched was basically about the amazing scenery. I have yet to find a watch a video showing the reality of aircraft movements etc to control input, how realistic instrument panel inputs and control surfaces are etc etc. Even when I search for "flight simulator 2020 cold and dark" in Youtube I find nothing. I am assuming at least as good as an other FS out there but everyone seems to be going "ga ga" over the scenery and flight simulation is a lot more than that.
  19. Well I'm not going to be one of those people who buy it immediately it is released. I will sit back and see if there are people who experience problems etc and then make up my mind. I can't wait to see the scenery on VFR flights but I am cautious.
  20. Yes The Gamesmen have been around for some years here in Australia and seem to have just started to advertise FS2020. It is the boxed edition obviously and the state that they will post 2 days before the release date in an effort to have it in your postbox the day of release BUT in fact it could be in your post box a few hours BEFORE the official release date which is 2PM on 18 August here in Australia. I would buy the boxed set but don't like the idea of having to have disk 1 in your DVD drive everytime you want too use it. Thanks for the reply.
  21. Sorry I forgot about that light sport two seater floatplane. I was thinking more like the DHC2 Beaver, DHC3 Turbo Otter and DHC6 Twin Otter, the 'workhorses' of floatplanes still used in Alaska and Canada.
  22. I totally agree. I have read elsewhere people complaining that there are no helicopters in ANY version. I am not interested in helicopters but surely when paying (a lot more) for the Premium, that a helicopter (as well as some other fixed wing aircraft types) would be included. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think I saw any gliders or floatplanes in any version. It makes me wonder if Microsoft are "leaving the door open" for 3rd party developers to get some of the market?
  23. That's (most of it) it. We have 10% GST (tax) and all Goods and Services,
  24. You are lucky as it doesn't seem to work that way here in Australia. Taking currently conversion rates it would be 15% cheaper to buy at the US price than the Australian price and I prefer to save. "He was having his co-pilot do his check lists for him. It had something to do with waiting to do something before he entered the runway a\Nd he didn’t do it, so it didn’t get checked off the list. It left that ugly marker on his screen. " I must (try to) remember that and maybe post something to him on Youtube.
