  2. British Airways Paithani Boeing B742RR

FS2002 ProjectAI BAW British Airways Paithani Boeing B742RR. Although the 747-200 was developed after the 747-100, it was built during roughly the same time frame. The first -200 went into commercial service in 1971, and Boeing delivered a total of 393, the last in 1991. Although its external appearance is nearly identical to the 747-100, it was designed to carry more payload. In addition to being offered as a passenger airplane, the -200 was the first 747 to be configured as a freighter, a combination passenger-freighter and a convertible. From the beginning, the 747 was designed to serve as an all-cargo transport. The first 747 Freighter could easily carry 100 tons (90,000 kg) across the Atlantic Ocean or across the United States. The 747 Freighter has a hinged nose to allow cargo loading through front of the airplane, with the option of a large side-cargo door. The 747-200 Convertible was configured to serve as a passenger airplane, a freighter or a combination of both. This airplane responded to airlines' needs to carry different payloads at different times of the year. Similar to the convertible is the -200 Combi, which was designed to serve as a passenger-only airplane or as a passenger-freighter mix. The combi has a large side-cargo door on the main deck, and is used by airlines to make better use of their routes during different times of the year. The convertible has a nose cargo door similar to the freighter.

  6. Skywest Airlines Australia Fokker F50

FS2002 ProjectAI SLL Skywest Airlines Australia Fokker F50. Launched in November 1983, the Fokker 50 was designed as an enhanced follow-on to earlier Fokker models. One enhancement was more powerful engines, delivering higher cruising speeds, greater fuel economy and range. Other improvements include updated avionics to decrease flight crew workload and small winglets to enhance efficiency. Fokker declared bankruptcy on March 15, 1996 due to poor financial performance. The last Fokker 50 was delivered in May 1997. The F50 is 82 feet 9 inches / 25.24 m and has a wingspan of 95 feet 2 inches / 29.02 m. It's powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127B engines and flies at 290 knots / 537 km/h / 0.44 mach with a range of 1400 nm / 2593 km. The aircraft has a crew of two and can accomodate 50-58 passengers.

  16. Continental Airlines Boeing B722

FS2002 ProjectAI COA Continental Airlines Boeing B722. By the time the 707 had entered service, Boeing realized the need for a shorter range aircraft intended primarily for domestic service. Over 70 possible configurations for this new aircraft were considered with Boeing finally selecting a design emphasizing commonality with the 707 and 720 to lower costs. However, the 727 departs from these designs by using a three-engine arrangement with all three located at the rear of the aircraft. The advantages of this arrangement include the reduction in structural requirements of the wing while promoting improved wing aerodynamics. The 727 also incorporates thrust-reversing engines and an advanced flap system to reduce landing field length. Although the aircraft was even more economical to operate than initially anticipated, sales were somewhat disappointing in the early 1960s since many operators desired larger capacity aircraft. Boeing therefore proceeded with an enlarged 727, the 727-200, capable of carrying up to 189 passengers or more fuel. Both the 727-100 and 720-200 models soon became best sellers, and a total of 1,832 airframes were completed when production ended in 1984. Boeing replaced the design with the more advanced 757.

FS2002 ProjectAI JAT JAT Yugoslav Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-50. Designed to operate from short runways and on short- to medium-range routes, the DC-9 airframe has produced many variants, including five DC-9s, the MD-80 series, MD-90 and B717. All DC9 series aircraft have built-in boarding stairs for use where jetways are not available. The low ground clearance puts the lower deck cargo bays at waist height, to allow loading and unloading without a conveyor or loading platform.

FS2002 ProjectAI RCU Air Atlantic British Aerospace BAe 146-200. The BAe 146 first flew commercially in 1983. The aircraft was designed specifically to meet the demanding requirements of the regional air transport market where heavy utilisation over short sector lengths coupled with high reliability are paramount requirements. A total of 221 BAe 146s were built and 219 were delivered between 1983 and 1993. Three different length versions of the BAe 146 were built - the Series 100 with 70-84 seats, the 200 Series with 85-100 seats and the 300 Series with 100-112 seats. The aircraft was also manufactured as a pure freighter, a quick change variant and as a VIP transport aircraft. The aircraft is powered by four Textron Lycoming ALF 502R-5 turbofans. The aircraft's cruise speed is 377-425 kt.

  25. Alitalia Airlines Airbus A306

FS2002 ProjectAI AZA Alitalia Airlines Airbus A306. During the mid-1960s, a number of European governments and aircraft manufacturers discussed the possibility of pooling resources to develop a short-range commercial jetliner. After studying a number of potential designs, attention focused on the HBN-100 being developed by Hawker Siddeley in Britain and Bregeut and Nord in France. Finally, France and West Germany agreed to proceed with the project forming what would become known as European Airbus. Eventually, the conglomerate would come to consist of Hawker Siddeley (now part of British Aerospace), Aerospatiale in France, DASA in Germany, and CASA in Spain with Fokker in the Netherlands and Belairbus in Belgium as major subcontractors. The first design they agreed to construct was a twin-engined wide-body airliner to fill a niche between the B707 and B727, seating between 220 and 330 passengers. This design would become known as the A300. Although of typical airliner layout with a cylindrical fuselage and mid-set swept-wing, the A300 incorporate a number of advanced features for its time, including a wing full of high-lift devices and quiet, fuel-efficient engines. Despite slow initial sales, the A300 gradually made inroads into the airline industry and was being operated throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America within a decade. Production of the upgraded A300-600 series continues with over 500 built by 2001. A300-600 with seating for 266 passengers in a two-class layout and a range of 4150 nautical miles.
