  1. Thanks neilends, I looked at those tutorial via the licks you left and yes they are really good and coming from real pilots can be relied on for accuracy. I do like 'hands on' tutorials though especially when the trainer tells you when you have done something wrong and also when they issue instructions. Maybe I will have to just watch such tutorials and then try and emulate in FS2020 what they teach as the inbuilt tutorials are unusable. Maybe the thing to do is to have 2 'sessions' open, one FS2020 and the other the Youtube tutorial video and switch between the two sessions pausing each before switching.
  2. I found the other day that the Attitudes & Instruments Training Flight training has a bug (also identified in the latest update). So I 'move on' to the Take-Off & Level Flight tutorial. Firstly I move the 152 onto the runway and stop between the piano keys and the runway number and take off. At around 40 kts the trainer advises - "We're a bit too far down the runway. Let me move the aircraft back into position" and the tutorial restarts with the 152 positioned slightly further down the runway than the runway number - STRANGE it is further down the runway than when I first started! I take off and no 'complaints' that "we're too far down the runway". I restart the entire tutorial and taxi onto runway and position the 152 EXACTLY where the trainer repositioned me earlier. I take off - SAME problem "We're too far down the runway..." Second problem. When the tutorial starts it shows a diagram with the 'flight path' drawn from take off the climb with 55kts at take off and 75kts during climb. I start again with same problem as above but when repositioned I can take off (which I do at just over 60kts) and then climb at around 88kts (above 75 in the diagram) when I get my 'beloved' trainer tell me - "Not moving fast enough We will have to abort take off" and the whole session restarts on the ground". Wow I was doing 60 kts at take off more than what the diagram showed (ie 55kts) and was climbing at nearly 90 kts which faster than the diagram shows for the climb speed (ie 75kts). I don't like having to restart for no apparent reason. Is this another BUG or am I doing something wrong? A few months ago I found that creating a manual cache caused FS2020 CTD (now supposedly corrected in the latest release), now two training sessions seem to have bugs. I am loosing patience with FS2020. Are there any training session which work? Why don't 'they' concentrate on fixing bugs rather than introduce new scenery, aircraft? IT seems that this 'bug' goes back to September 2020 yet it is still a bug. Have a look at this report. There is a Youtube video of this tutorial and the trainer 'talks' to the pilot advising him what to do "keep on centre line", "take off at 55" etc etc. I do NOT hear these instructions PLUS in the tutorial the author takes of exactly as I do (but on on the center line" at LESS than 55 and climbs at just over 60kts yet there is no 'reprimand' that we are moving fast enough. I give up!
  3. Thanks Tim I DID read those release notes but misread it thinking that those issues had been addressed in the release (not that they were known issues NOT addressed). Silly me. IT seems to me then that the issue (problem) is the result of previous updates as the YouTube videos show that the issue didn't exist when the videos were created. Poor testing or not an effective test plan I wonder? I know all about them as I used to be a programmer and EFFECTIVE test plans HAD to be created and performed and ticked off before changes were implemented. I can't remember ever having ineffective test plans.
  4. I have found TWO YouTube videos both showing the second tutorial and BOTH show the altitude at 6000 feet and holding while the instructor talks. When I run the SAME tutorial the altitude starts at 6000 and the aircraft slowly descends while the instructor talks (and it displays that the instructor has control of the aircraft) until under 5000 feet and the aircraft crashes. SURELY this is ANOTHER BUG or what should I be doing?
  5. Today I tried some of the General Aviation Training 'missions' Cessna 152). My joystick would not work yet it works when I fly a 'free flight'. Am I missing something? What do I need to do for the joystick to function when using Flight Training or is this a bug introduced with the latest update (which downloaded and installed today before I attempted flight training? OK I've got it. The training mission I chose has the instructor in control (I checked another missions and it starts with the user (pilot) in control and the joystick works. That now changes the question to 'how do you take control of the aircraft from the instructor' and 'why does the instructor not control the aircraft to prevent it from crashing when she is (presumably) in control'?
  6. https://www.game-debate.com/news/293...%20performance. What great information - thanks for the link
  7. Thanks for all your replies. Firstly the magazine is produced in ENGLAND as well as the fact that although we are "the land downunder" air flights follow international 'rules'. Regardless of grammar the sentence DOES start with HENCE.
  8. The Nov/Dec issue of PC Pilot (the latest available in Australia) has an article on the A320 family which ends with a description of the flight plan for the YMML (Melbourne) to YSSY (Sydney) route, described as a busy route, which states (for the arrival into YSSY) - "Hence the SIDs will only take you so far before ATC will vector you to the relevant ILS final approach fix. The typical SID for arrivals from the south are to track to RIVET or TAMMI intersections....." - highlighting by me not in the article. I am only a beginner but I thought STARs were used for arrival at an airport not SIDs. Is it an error or am I missing something?
  9. Thanks. I had forgotten about setting FS2020 for offline HOWEVER you need to run it first (to be able to set it) and as such impossible to set if you don't have the internet. It's a 'catch 22' situation. Damned annoying.
  10. After reading the post at the link I now wonder - IS it possible to run FS2020 totally OFFLINE (including startup). Reason for question is that the internet cable connection to my house is currently down for 3 days (before technician can come) and when I tried it asked me to insert disk 1 (which I don't have as I purchased the download version). I can create a hot spot with my mobile/cell phone and connect my PC to the internet via WiFi using the phone but only at 300Mbps AND my mobile/cell phone 'plan' only allows for 1GB internet downloads (per month). Maybe I only require that connection during startup and then disconnect the internet? What are my options? Thanks
  11. I haven't experienced any CTD flying but usually my flights are only fly for 30-40 minutes. Hope I haven't jinxed myself by saying that  I get CTD regularly trying to create manual caches which results in this 'feature' not really working for me. If I start getting CTD during flights I will consider going back to X-Plane.
  12. I had no trouble starting FS2020 today and no updates it seems. Maybe users in Australia use a different server (or the problem has been fixed).
  13. I am getting constant CTD when I attempt to create a manual cache which consists of low res areas and high res areas. I watched a YouTube video on how to create a manual cache and the author set up a manual cache of the island of Jamaica which also included lores of the entire island and many many areas of high res and he didn't encounter the dreaded CTD yet the island is about the same area that I am trying to create a manual cache for. The only difference is that he did his just after FS2020 was released before any updates. Could it be the updates have introduced a bug? I just wished there was a log to look at to try and see where the crash occurs. Very annoying Asobo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Thanks. No wonder the 'float'. I remember being in a twin and during landing seemed to have trouble forcing the aircraft down onto the runway so now I realise maybe he had too much flap extended.
  15. Thanks. There seems to be a certain latitude as to exactly where to set the trim within the boundaries of the 'take off' position to prevent the aircraft taking off with no yoke input as I had to set the trim to the very end of that area (almost 'nose down' area). Maybe some of the other larger prop aircraft (eg Cessna 208 Caravan) perform differently. That would be a new learning curve for me (cockpit orientation). That's where I'm 'heading' now. I just remembered that my nephew (real pilot) flies the 208 often so I must ask him next time I see him.
  16. Thanks. Great reply and suggestion. I am now wondering if creating a manual cache of the area you prefer flying in and turning off internet connection would eliminate the 'micro lags'? Is that possible I wonder? I 'restricted' fps to 30 (instead of 60) and since then haven't noticed and 'lags' but that could be co-incidental. My internet connection runs at around 53Mbps (download speed) but that of course if at the 'mercy' of the server both locally and overseas as well as the actual loading of where ever the data comes from which I guess varies constantly.
  17. You are both very correct (use the check list). I sometimes forget :( I guess that the preconfiguring of the aircraft (both flaps and trim) would be done by the pilot before entering the runway which is done for the pilot in 2020 HOWEVER these preconfigured settings for the Beechcraft King Air results in the aircraft taking off with NO (backwards) pressure on the yoke. In real life would a pilot set flaps and trim to a degree which results in the aircraft taking off by itself? I don't know as I am only learning. The trim setting should take into consideration the CoG of the aircraft and I don't know how to calculate this for the King Air. There is a calculator at http://www.willingtons.com/aircraft_center_of_gravity_calcu.htm however I don't know where to get the various input values from.
  18. I thought perhaps that somewhere in SETTINGS could be the place to prevent flaps being automatically extended but NO there doesn't seem to be anywhere to prevent it. Since some more learned people that me have stated that on the 172 flaps are normally not required (unless short runway etc) then why isn't it left up to the pilot to make the decision. FSX used to be advertised as "as real as it gets". Sorry but FS2020 doesn't seem to be 'as real as it gets' !!!
  19. That is terrible (half into a flight) and that has happened to me with FSX in the past. The worst thing is that (it appears) there is nothing to look at to try and determine the cause. Surely there should be a log to look at.
  20. Hi loki YES the latest 2060 would be a RTX 2060 Super OC which I guess runs faster and so should result in a faster fps but would the increase be worth the bother? If only 2 or 3 then I would say not worth the trouble. I am just trying to determine if the 1480p monitor would result in a slower fps and as I really don't want to reduce graphic settings below HIGH and still get 30-40 fps.
  21. Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have another question. I have decided on a Gigabyte 32" X2 monitor (1440p) and am starting to think forward about the fact that my graphics card only has 6Gb Vram (RTX 2060 OC 6GB) and wonder what improvement I could expect if I simply replaced the graphics card (6Gb) with the latest RTX 2060 BUT with 8Gb vram (they are noticeably cheaper than upgrading even to an RTX 2070 8Gb)? Would any benefits be not worth the outlay considering that I would sell my RTX 2060 6GB for at least half the price of the upgrade (going on what they sell for on Ebay).
  22. Thanks David. It seems that perhaps no one else has ever experienced this problem no one else has been able to give any clues. Maybe I should report it to Asobo but how? I will look for any videos on YouTube which may give clues.
