FS98 Lockheed U-2G, aircraft carrier qualified variant with CIA civil "N" registration, fitted with arrestor hook, wing spoilers and 50-degree-deflection flaps, as well as strengthened landing gear and rear-fuselage section. Five were built, one of which monitored the French nuclear tests on Mururoa Atoll in 1964. In 1955, Lockheed designed the basic U-2A as a single-engined, very high-altitude reconnaissance and scientific research aircraft, still operative and updated nowadays. The U-2A was powered by one 13,750 flb Pratt & Whitney J57 P37A turbojet engine, with a maximum speed of 459 kt and a ceiling of 85,000 feet. Modified Lear45 panel with default gauges included. FS98 Early USAF Lockheed U-2A from the AFFTC (Air Force Flight Test Center) at Edwards AFB, in unique day-glow orange and silver livery. In 1955, Lockheed fitted a large set of glider wings to the F-104 Starfighter, producing the U-2A, a single-engined, very high-altitude reconnaissance and scientific research aircraft which is still being updated and operative in the present day. 48 early-version units were built, powered by one 13750 flb Pratt&Whitney J57 P37A turbojet. With civil registration number N800X Gary Powers flew a high altitude reconnaissance mission over the USSR in 1960, with rather unfortunate results that led to an international incident an his imprisonment for three years. The U-2A "Dragon Lady" was designed by Lockheed in 1955, equipping an F-104 Starfighter fuselage with a large set of glider wings. FS98 Schleicher Ka 6E Sailpane
FS98 Schleicher Ka 6E Sailpane. 1965 shoulder-wing sailplane constructed by Alexander Schleicher in Poppenhausen, designed by Rudolf Kaiser. It was the ultimate development of the Ka6 Series, with a more aerodynamic fuselage, a mono-wheel undercarriage and a longer cabin, being one of the most successful sailplanes in the time of wood and spruce construction with fabric covering. It had a sink rate of 122 fpm @ 37 kt, and a large number are still flying. A Ka6E won the highest score at the 1965 U.S. Nationals, and another won the 1967 Barringer long-distance trophy. The flight dynamics in two .air files implement two possibilities for take-off by pressing F4: The default .air file provides a glider-winch launch to 2200 feet above ground level, and an extra .air file provides aero-tow take-off to 4000 feet. FS98 Schleicher ASK 14 Motorglider. 1967 self-launching motorglider designed by Rudolf Kaiser and built by Alexander Schleicher. A powered, low-wing variant of the 1965 Ka6E sailplane, it was one of the best and most elegant motor gliders of its time. Of wood and spruce, with fabric covering, it had only a slightly higher sink rate than the Ka6E: 148 fpm @ 39 kt, being well capable of soaring. ASK-14's took the second, third and fourth places in the single-place class of the first international motorglider contest at Burg Feuerstein in 1970. It was powered by a 26 hp Hirth 4-cylinder 2-stroke boxer engine, with a remarkable climb-rate of 541 fpm @ 51 kt.
