  4. X-Plane 9.70+ de Havilland D.H.88 Comet

X-Plane 9.70+ de Havilland D.H.88 Comet. The DeHavilland 88 Comet was a two seat 1934+ racer designed for a single race from Mildenhall, England to Melbourne, Australia. There were only three built for the race and two more built later for subsequent races and the French government for delivering mail. Only the winner of the race, Grosvenor House, survives though Black Magic is undergoing restoration. There is a Pilots Operating Handbook included within the aircraft folder. Read it--seriously! 7. X-Plane 9+ Savoia S.21 Porco Rosso

X-Plane 9+ Savoia S.21 Porco Rosso. The Savoia S21 is a fictional seaplane fighter that appears in the anime film Porco Rosso, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. While the plane depicted in the film never existed, Savoia was an actual Italian aircraft maker which produced a considerable number of flying boats in the 1920s, during which the film is set. The S.21 was a custom-built fighter seaplane with a single parasol wing, above which was mounted a single engine nacelle. It had a flying-boat hull and outrigger floats, and carried two machine guns in the nose. Includes highly detailed interior and exterior. By Denis Krupin.

  9. X-Plane 9+ Kalinin K-7

X-Plane 9+ Kalinin K-7. The Kalinin K7 was a heavy experimental aircraft designed and tested in the Soviet Union in the early 1930s. The K-7 was of unusual configuration with twin booms and large underwing pods housing fixed landing gear and machine gun turrets. In the passenger version, seats were arranged inside the 2.3 meter (7 ft 7 in) thick wings. The airframe was welded from KhMA chrome-molybdenum steel. The original design called for six engines in the wing leading edge but when the projected loaded weight was exceeded, two more engines were added to the trailing edges of each wing, one right and one left of the central passenger pod. Comes complete with a highly detailed 3D modelled interior of the whole aircraft. By Denis Krupin.

  10. X-Plane 9 Canadian Vickers Vedette

X-Plane 9 Canadian Vickers Vedette. The Canadian Vicker Vedette was the first production aircraft designed and build in Canada. It served with the RCAF from about 1926 to 1932 on forestry and photographic mapping. The Vedette would be at home in the scenery with lots of lakes. See the read me file for tips on landing and use of the unconventional magnetic compass. The airplane handles well but has some trim quirks because of the high mounted engine. Water landings go quite well in waves up to 2 feet high. By Jack Wilkinson.

  12. X-Plane 9 Beechcraft Staggerwing

X-Plane 9 Beechcraft Staggerwing. There were 781 of these aircraft produced, with at least 250 still in existence, and 150 still in flying condition. Most of these are owned by airline pilots. The flight characteristics of this plane makes it unique. In flight it is stable down to 100 mph. Below 90, the solid feel becomes a bit soggy. The wing is very resistant to stall because the lower wing has incidence, and the top one does not, so that the lower wings stalls first. This makes it hard to stall altogether. A very classy aircraft, with performance bettering that of most modern private planes, it represents the "Golden Age of Aviation." By Heinz Dziurowitz.

  13. X-Plane 9.70 Caproni Ca.33

X-Plane 9.70 Caproni Ca.33. Caproni Ca.33 MM 1158 flown by 8 Squadriglia, IV Gruppo, Corpo Aereo Italiano, based at San Pelagio in the spring of 1917. The Ca33 was one of the first strategic bombers in the world and during WW1 these planes had a very important role in the last year of war. One of these aircraft is preserved at the Vigna di Valle Museum of the Aeronautica Militare italiana. Important: the cockpit instruments of the Ca.33 were very poor--there were only the rpm and the fuel pressure gauges--so for X-Plane use the compass, the airspeed indicator and the altimeter have been added. By Paolo Matricardi. Animated pilot by Bertrand Augras. Sounds by Chris Wraight.
