Rockie & Bullwinkle were IMO a lot more up to date with RW happenings than most of the news at that time. They certainly made it more sensible to those who don't spend all their time fretting over it!!

As I mentioned, my Baron is a Baron 58 with 550C engines. According to Wikipedia that configuration is rated for a service ceiling of 20,668' on a "Standard Day". Since it's summer in Oz and at least 30f hotter than a Standard Day, I'd say the almost 18,000' I achieved in my Baron 58 is probably very accurate.

Looks great to me! And no, that's not at all bare bones.

And possibly the difference in Barons as well. Wikipedia showed several different model years, engine manufacturers, and horsepower ratings for Barons. It's all what you happen to have.

Or go with a bigger alternators or batteries

Okay, Since I entered my Beech Baron in the rally you made me wonder how it performs at altitude. It's rated at 300 hp per Continental 10-550-C. So outside Perth with 50% fuel, OAT 80F, 29.51 inches, and a 175lb. pilot, no luggage, we climbed out. Our maximum altitude was 17,200' doing 75kts with cylinder temps of 220C. This is using the P3Dv.4 stock Baron with the ORBX Australia scenery. And seems to be really close to RW numbers. Michael

Heck that looks a lot better than some of the places I've flown in and out of, even in the US, anyway!! My Baron should love it!

I was in the first H-46 squadron deployed to Vietnam, Hmm-164. (YT) "Watson's Warriors" at Marble Mountain. I don't remember hearing the term "Phrog" at that time. But then again there's a lot I don't remember about that first go round, Too many night med-evacs! The 2nd trip over, I flew H-34's as a "Purple Fox" in HMM-364 (PF) for a few months. We spent our free time trying to sneak around and paint, using a stencil of a fox on every vehicle any other outfit owned with purple paint of course. As I recall, we stenciled about a dozen Jeeps from various other outfits during one big meeting held by Lt. General Walt. Soon after that episode, mid deployment and maybe having to do with the spray paint job, I was transferred back to 46's in HMM-165. (YW) I remember that positing really well. It's when I broke my neck in a very hard landing caused by almost no hydraulic pressure, which sent me home and out of the Corps for good. I'm guessing the term "Phrog" came along after I was out. There's a little more detail of YKNG with P3D and ORBX. The runway is unpaved, but there is a tower, And yes, there was another plane already parked there. Perhaps I'm already late as well. That's me with my Baron getting ready to return to YPUT for the event start.

I Loved the comment about MAD, Mad, etc., etc World,! I won't be flying anything as cool as a Model T. I'll just stick with a Beech Craft or two. Probably a Bonanza or maybe a Baron using P3D V4. I don't plan on doing the TSD portion, at least fully, but i Will attempt to at least do a Touch & Go at every airfield listed, And yes, I'll probably have a brewski or two as well. I know that's a ton of landings, but hey I'm not paying any landing fees at the airports and THE FUEL IS FREE!! Besides that's the best way to see how an airport is represented. And when drinking beer I like to stay fairly close to the "facilities", I was never a fan of the "Pilot Relief Tubes" we had back in the days!! I haven't RW been down under since the 1970's so it'll be fun just to see how P3D and ORBX portrays it. Michael

When discussing sim platforms don't forget P3D! It's been around for decades and works very well using the standard controls of most other sims. Though I have several other sims including the new one, I prefer P3D and it works well with all the ORBX scenery I bought over a several year span.. P3D is what I now almost always fly. As to anger, I used to be mad, literally and figuratively because I got so shot up in combat that I was/am disabled. My US VA shrink taught me to "fly" over Vietnam, where I was flying when I got messed up. Guess what the grass still looks green there, no one has shot at me lately, I despite being sim limited, I can still fly almost anywhere in the world without leaving home. ANGER AND THE ATTENDANT BULLYING HAS NO PLACE IN ANY SIM EVENT! A SIM IS FOR FUN! If anyone here gets mad, they, I, etc. can just find another site to sim. Michael

For the sake of simplicity why doesn't someone just list the start and end location of each leg and any specific routes required (if that is the case), Then just set a start date, finish date, and we can all commence the event after the holidays are over. The event, whatever it's called, can then evolve based on each entrant's desires. Some may just want to simply fly and look around, others might choose to keep exact charts noting time fuel etc., while others might choose to give lots of commentary and/or pictures. Since it's all in fun, I see no wrong answer.

+1 Very interested in projected start date! I hope to be able to make this one!! I'll probably use a Beech Bonanza. And yes, writing sure makes it more interesting.

Nice little Turbo Prop! Turbo props were often the base models of air travel, like this one shown. They were usually first jobs for many new commercial pilots. Who sadly often don't or at east didn't make even minimum wages! Michael

Great shots Darryl! Did I miss something? When you posted this in early December, I and others remarked on it at that time. Now the only comment I see was "Posted 23 hours ago" I don't think I was the only earlier poster earlier. Either way, the series really looks great. And yes, cold. Having said that, I've spent many a day years ago RW in Colorado, including in and around Denver and seen a ton more snow than I see here. In fact I've seen a lot more snow than that there on Thanksgiving! "Global Warming" perhaps? HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!! Michael
