  1. Don't be afraid of anything, Stuart. The update is 101% optional. Better to wait until the dust settles and learn from the experiences of others. Its too early to know enough from just a few people's experiences for different systems will produce different results. John
  2. Nah, the water is too blue. :) John
  3. The whole FS system works by priorities in the Scenery Library, the last loaded layer for any location will over-ride layers loaded previously. For removal of scenery, it works by not displaying items "excluded" by a higher level of scenery. ADE and AFX are both able to exclude specific categories (eg autogen, buildings, taxi signs etc), and there are also dedicated utilities that will do so. In simple terms you should be able exclude items in default or addon scenery, by placing the file with the exclude area(s) in the Scenery library at a level that loads after the scenery concerned. I say "in simple terms" because sometimes it takes some fine tuning to set up correctly but perseverence will generally pay off. John
  4. There are no faults listed that should stop the gentleman receiving email (DMARC is for outgoing mail), although quoting his email address publicly on the internet will get him on criminal's spamming lists very quickly. John
  5. Yes, Colin, ADE takes a lot of getting used to when you are used to AFCAD or AFX and it seems to take a far more complicated approach to some things. I'm still getting to grips with its features so am hardly the person to guide you but one quick thing I would say is that you need to do two things: 1. Save the airport as a "project file" for future use and adjustment (this is actually optional but worth doing). 2. Generate the airport. This is what actually makes it work. Take care to save it to the appropriate location. ADE will probably create the file under a new name so you would be well-advised to delete or disable any AFCAD or AFX files that are present for that airport. Hope that helps, that's very generic guidance! John
  6. Likewise, I asked about their animated roads going straight across runways. I don't question their accuracy, it is probably the default airports that are wrong, but I just asked if there was a way to remove them. I got no answer on their support forums. I later discovered that ADE would remove animated roads, but it needed two exclude polygons to do it. Remember that not providing support for anything you buy and modify is pretty much the norm. Basically they are saying if YOU break it, they won't fix it. I wouldn't worry about that too much, but if it concerns you, keep a duplicate of all files you modify. ADE or AFX will gleefully remove your unwanted taxi signs, by the way. John
  7. Such issues are discussed in that forum, including the all too common dangerous advice to switch off your anti-virus. Far better to discuss the subject there than here, but I would recommend submitting the file to your anti-virus provider who will be able to pass judgement accurately. Otherwise, grit your teeth and go without. John
  8. The files under My Documents shouldn't have any effect on the working of FSX. The one under Appdata is what FSX will refer to. You could pop them all into one zip file if you wanted to test without them present. It is normal for FSX to re-write the FSX.cfg file each session, by the way, no cause for concern there. Going back to your first post, you describe your issue as a "Crash to Desktop" but say the aircraft cockpit freezes after loading? Those are completely different things. Which is it? A true CTD is the software completely vanishing from screen without warning or information - a very rare occurrence on modern versions of Windows. If you are getting that, you have serious issues! A typical software crash generates an error message which will indicate the faulting module, a very useful piece of information. If you get that, look for the offending DLL file in the message and advise back here. For the latter, you might like to try re-setting the default flight. Although you say you don't "use" the default flight, you will be using settings from it. The most extreme way of resetting things is to delete the FSX.cfg file (keep a copy!) and let FSX generate a fresh, clean one. This will delete all your customisations but in the process will set everything to vanilla "as installed" and eliminate setiings that may be causing problems. John
  9. Interesting that you have only just experienced this as I thought this issue had existed since FSX was invented! Go to the panel.cfg file in a text editor for any aircraft affected, and amongst the entries in the section headed [VIEWS] there will be an entry that reads something like: VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 0.000 Change the first number to read something like: VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=5.000, 0.000, 0.000 You will need to change the panel.cfg file for each aircraft affected, and tweak it to get the view exactly as you want it. Usual disclaimers regarding backing-up first apply . . . John
  10. I bought it a while back and had no issues. John
  11. The SimMarket page gives links for email support and forum for this product. John
  12. Hello Erwin, The problem there is that filesharing of other people's work is illegal, whether it was available free or not. As the domain name is still active, it looks like he has chosen to close his site down. He may have his reasons to not want to share his files any more. There is an older model of the Twin Pioneer by Mike Stone which should be available from the various popular download sites. John PS - there is a Gmail link to contact him on this page - might be worth trying to make contact?: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?14440-Interview-With-Robert-Richardson/view/3
  13. You really need to read the supplied info. It is not the kind of autopilot you find in modern aircraft. Ask on the CalClassic forum and you will get lots of help. Best regards, John
  14. From: http://rexsimulations.com/support.html Search our knowledge base now and get the answers you need. https://rexgamestudios.helpscoutdocs.com/ For general support assistance for your REX software, REX Axis is your place! https://rexaxis.com/ Is this the route you took to contact them? For instance I can see it says: After our initial release of Technical Update 2.5 there have been several items that need attention. Therefore, we have started to work on Technical Update 2.6. We are projecting to start testing in June and hope for a release in mid to late June. John
  15. You shouldn't want to download and install something that could harm your computer. Take it up with whomever you bought it from. John
  16. Lee - another way to do it: in Windows 7 at least. Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation > Display Make text and other items larger or smaller It allows you to set from a range of three settings - 100%, 125% and 150% I have a shortcut directly to that page of the Control Panel for ease of access and switching. As long as you don't have any add-ons that are not disability-friendly, that can be quite convenient. John
  17. Assuming there is an ILS provided. There are loads of commercial airports without ILS and many of those that do have them at one end only. Most of the latter do at least allow Backcourse ILS but visual altitude positioning is necessary as there is no glide slope. Visual approaches must actually be quite frequent at all but the largest airports. John
  18. It would help if I gave the correct instruction! Should have said Shift + Right-Click. Sorry about that. John
  19. These are pre-war aircraft, I'm not sure that ILS even existed in those days - if it did it would have been at very few airports. There shouldn't be anything hard about a visual landing, this is often done in the present day. But I would guess you might solve the problem with Ctrl-A to engage approach. John
  20. After FSX has loaded and vanished, try right-clicking the task-bar icon and select "Maximise". John
  21. Well blow me sideways, all this time I've been on the wrong forum.
  22. I just said "the add-ons that makes doing flights easier" out loud and my wife gave me a very strange look! Yes, please be more specific about your needs. John
  23. I have no idea, but you should be able to work most of it out by zooming in on the map of the flight. John
  24. Here we are, I think: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/b62064#273af28b Flight number seems to be JBU2064 though? On a more general point I find that FS flights usually take longer than reality owing to the inefficiencies of airport operation and particularly longer departure and arrival routes than the real world. John
  25. Flight Radar: flightradar24.com I have their "app" installed on a tablet and that certainly shows historical information, so I assume you can also do that through their website. John
