    Active Sky 6.5

Flight Simulator will use runways for whatever weather exists. I think what you are experiencing is the weather loading after AI traffic has made its decisions. You can fix that by changing the FS time by as little as a minute to reset the AI traffic AFTER the weather has loaded. John

    Active Sky 6.5

It seems not. From https://forums.hifisimtech.com/threads/active-sky-for-fs9.6953/ in March 2019: I can confirm Active Sky Evolution still works but there is no certainty how long that will continue. John
  3. This issue often arises when the AFD file has been edited with AFCAD2. If that's the case, reinstate the original file and see if that resolves the problem. If it does, use ADE or AFX to edit AFD files in future and dump AFCAD2, permanently. It is very rare for commercial scenery to be released with errors such as those described. If this has been the case, a fix will almost certainly be available. The place to ask for that is the developer's support, not here. You should not be paying for an add-on and then having to faff around as described above! John

    AIFP3 error

In some versions of Windows you must run the Flight 1 Repair Tool "As Administrator", so do try again. It is prone to telling porky-pies about having made the repair if you don't. John

    PF3 ATC

Wow, there are some detailed questions there, and some outside my knowledge - e.g. SIDS and STARS. I don't use them but know they can be replicated. You can use keys or speech recognition to communicate, you can change frequencies manually or automatically, you can acknowledge ATC instructions manually or automatically. Please do try the trial version to find out what it is really like - my words don't do it justice. It is available at Try before you buy - OnCourse Software (ocs-support.co.uk) . I have read that some users have had difficulty installing the demo (perhaps because it works across so many operating systems and Flight Simulators) but check their forum or ask on there if you do. PF3 ATC

I use it all the time, it is a complex piece of software and has a huge number of configuration settings so it does take a while to get the hang of but I expect once you get it running as you want it, you will never look back. Biggest plus point is the huge number of accents, automatically associated with appropriate airlines, and their countries for ATC. Second biggest plus point is that it uses realistic transition levels rather than 18000 around the world (although you can modify them all to 18000 or what you like if you want!) Biggest negative point is that the recordings were made many years ago so they do not include recent airlines. In theory they could be created like EditVoicePack but the sheer number of voices make that an unpalatable idea. In such cases I use the ICAO code, for instance MyTravel Airlines (ICAO VZ) was "Kestrel" but that isn't included, so I would fly it as VICTOR ZULU 1234. Edit . . . that is a poor example because it IS included, but hopefully you get the gist' This product has the best support I have ever come across (whether for Flight Simulator or other subjects) through the forum there, and an incredibly detailed manual which would probably last you through a transatlantic flight! I think a trial version is available if you want to suck it and see. Hope this helps, John
  7. I think you will find it works fine if you spell flightsim correctly. John
  8. Email address is on that site's home page: Cloudy's Flight Simulator site (braybaroque.ie) John
  9. G'day, Generally I would agree the latter is the easiest way, as I find it a pig to remember and locate the correct directory where the flights are stored. Yeah, yeah, I know I could make it easier with a shortcut! But one advantage of looking there is that, provided you associate FLT files with FS9.EXE, all you need is a double-click on the filename and Flight Simulator will start up and load that flight automatically. Quite a natty feature, really, if you reload flights frequently. Best regards, John
  10. I can't comment about the technical questions, but would just warn all to approach web sites with answers to problems about DLL files and the like. At best, they are guessing as to the solution and simply hoping you will download a piece of software (of unproven efficiency/reliabilty) to scan your computer for errors (and, one wonders, scan for other things that are none of its business), and at worst they will suggest you download a replacement DLL from an unknown source which could well be virus-ridden. If in doubt, recover such files from their original source (in this case, it will be on the FS installation discs). And bear in mind the same file appears in the Windows system files, in my Windows 10 machine it can be found at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ . My one there is slightly newer than the FS one. Records from my previous PC suggest that the file had been updated several times on there, so it may be that you need to be sure you have the latest updates. Best regards, John
  11. Be comforted that you are not alone . . . I have a sign by my desk here which is more relevant than most realise: DO NOT DISTURB I am disturbed enough already John
  12. THE file? Hundreds of files . . . at least! I haven't ever done anything with approaches but I think ADE is essential for that. But AFX is excellent at not over-writing things it doesn't understand. But Tom has suggested an issue with illegal characters. Presumably my sanity(?) has discouraged me from inserting such things. Best regards, John
  13. Ah well, here in the UK we have unpopular ways of dealing with the thousands of illegal characters that arrive here . . . John :)
  14. In what way? I have been using AFX to edit ADE files for years (when it suits for a quick edit) and likewise have often loaded an AFX file into ADE if I need to do something that AFX doesn't do (such as create a "flatten" area). To date I have never encountered a single issue in FS2004. John (an obsessive airport meddler amongst other things)
  15. I can't say I have experienced that, but it is critical to swap a lot of content of the aircraft.cfg file to if conducting such tests. The *.air files and the aircraft.cfg work together to provide the flying ability of the aircraft. I have done such swaps many times successfully, but you do need to carefully copy back the contact points, views, lights and effects sections to get it right, so its a task that needs a little time and concentration. Best regards, John
  16. A properly formatted DXT3 file does not contain a preview image - it is a simple as that! John
  17. Hi Hans, It looks as if there isn't enough temporary disc space available for the action you are undertaking - see Error 481: Invalid Picture - Microsoft Support John
  18. It may be happening on some Windows 10 setups but certainly not all. Has anybody here with the problem checked Event Viewer? That will normally log which DLL in FS caused the software to crash, which is a good pointer to the cause. John
  19. Just a thought, Peter, I can't see anywhere where this might have been mentioned. I assume that a) your Flight Simulator installation isn't in C:\Program Files, and b) you run Flight Simulator "as Administrator"? I can guess your answer will be in the affirmative, but it is worth asking. John
  20. My [FACILITIES] entries are mostly blank, so I'm not sure those are pertinent to this issue. The other settings you mention are probably created during use of the game. A few more things you can try: There are three ways to force FS to load the default Cesssna/Seattle flight plan. If you think you have previously saved that flight in a different situation, delete it or rename it first. Flight plans are located at: C:\Users\[name]\Documents\Flight Simulator Files Delete or rename your current file shown in situation= in FS9.cfg Set situation= in FS9.cfg to be empty/blank Go the whole hog and delete/rename FS9.cfg and FS will build a new one to default settings, including the startup flight. This will remove all of your customisations, but these can be systematically copied back in later. John
  21. That's not a mistake, it would be correct if the time zones were correctly configured. I have offered you two solutions for that above. Did you read that? Time zones do change from time to time, so even if it was correct in 2003, you could hardly expect it to be correct today anyway. John
  22. Getting down to the nitty-gritty, what is happening to you us that something is causing FS to crash when you close the game down. It is normal for FS to restart automatically after a software crash. Therefore, I am trying to think of all the things FS does when closing. The only further thing I can think of at the moment is that a file it is trying to write to is corrupt or read-only, because FS does write to certain files at the end of a flight/closing down. Whilst appreciating what you say about the Logbook being off, please double-check that FS isn't giving you a wrong reading by looking at your FS9.cfg. In the [MISC] section, check that the following entries read as shown below: LOG_TIME=0 LOG_FILE= (the content of the second one shouldn't matter if the first is at 0, but worth setting to blank to be sure). in the [uSERINTERFACE] section, check that SITUATION= reads correctly to your default flight. While there, check that file is not "read-only". (Right-click on file name > Properties) Glance over the entire file to check there isn't any gobbledygook anywhere, which would indicate a corrupt file. Also, check that the aircraft.cfg file for your default flight is not "read-only". Likewise check for corrupted text. Beyond that, I am out of ideas for now, but will keep the matter in mind. John
  23. Peter, Under Settings > General, please try disabling "Log Flight Time". John
  24. From what I can find elsewhere on the web, this product is discontinued. We are all substantially older now than when FS2004 came into being and it is possible the gentleman concerned is no longer in the hobby. A registered version of FSUIPC has the option to "Keep FS clock sync'd to real time" if that's your need. The free FSTimeSync does a similar job (available at Github) - the current version has display issues for me (possibly just my screen settings), but that's not to say it doesn't still work. If it is correction to Time Zones you are after, the Time Zone files that come with FS Real Time are not Joshua Robertson's work and should work without it, they do not seem to be available in the file library here but can be found at AVSIM as TimeZone 3.0. There is also FS2004 Time Zone Scenery in the library here, which is apparently a development of that. Both require batch commands for different areas before starting a flight - personally, I find it easier to just set the simulator time according to one of the many web sites that show current time anywhere in the world. John
  25. Hi Peter, Just a suggestion . . . worth a try. Revert to saving the default Cessna flight as your startup and see if that fixes things. Only then, if it does, try to save your preferred startup flight. The Cessna flight will often reset gremlins that won't go away. Hans is right, quite a few (but not all) advanced aircraft have features that do give problems with saved flights. John
