  1. It should identify your FS setup(s) and install itself automatically when you run the install file. From the readme file that accompanies the install file: * FSTramp must be installed with the privileges of the administrator. This guarantees the correct installation of additional system components such as VC runtime libraries and SimConnect.dll. * The destination path "C:\Program Files (x86)\FSTramp" is optimal but any other installation path is possible. * When installation is complete, you must create the scenery data base. This is done with the app "FSTramp Scenery Assembler" for each installed Simulator version separately. The first time this will take a few minutes. After installation of new add-on scenery or AIRAC cycle the database should be updated; this generally will only take seconds. * After installation, and building the scenery database, start the Simulator, load a Flight and activate FSTramp from the Plugins/Add-ons menu or with the default Hotkey Ctrl+F12. Test the other important key Shift+Ctrl+F12. The FSTramp variant for Microsoft Flight Simulator 11 (MSFS2020) is in the Windows Start menu and must be executed there. Hope that helps, John
  2. Nobody other than you can say what the "definitite solution" is but to me it sounds as if it might be the "8 minute freeze" issue, you may need an adjustment in your fsx.cfg. See: https://hifisupport.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/41/10/temporary-freezes-with-fsx for info https://fsxtimes.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/affinitymask/ for fix John
  3. Same problem here nine years after release. It has been raised on the AIG Forum with no repsonse from them. The poster there says he resolved it by installing their Cleveland, Jacksonville and New Orleans sceneries. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any of those.
  4. Try here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install-winpc/error-1628-failed-to-complete-installation-on/d2afa34f-889f-471a-8bd1-8963553d7c91 John
  5. The only way I can think of is to wait for a hand-off and acknowledge it, but to NOT contact the controller you are handed off to. Whenever you are ready, you will be able to contact the appropriate controller for whatever point you have reached. John
  6. Your BIOS will have changed back to default settings, which aren't necessarily ideal and are not necessarily the settings the computer came with as new. It may need re-configuring. John
  7. Try this in your panel.cfg file instead of as given: [Window**] size_mm=204,65 visible=0 window_size= 0.20,0.09 window_pos= 0.0,0.05 background_color=16,16,16 gauge00=RCB_Groundhandling5!PushbackDisplay, 2,2,74,61 gauge01=RCB_Groundhandling5!PushbackStates, 0,0 gauge02=RCB_Groundhandling5!Taxispeed, 79,2,64,61 //gauge03=RCB_Groundhandling!UseToebrakePedals, 0,0 gauge03=RCB_Groundhandling5!Brakes, 146,2,56,61 gauge04=RCB_Groundhandling5_Sound!dsd_xml_sound3, 0,0,0,0, ./Sound/Groundhandling5/Sound.ini John
  8. No problems with the software here, but if you are neurotic about being hindered by Steam, you can run it in "off-line" mode and bypass that. The only issues I have come up against are add-on utilities that are FSX compatible but not FSX-SE compatible. It seems that the SE came along so late that the developers can't be bothered to modify their software - generally it is just a pathing issue that fails and sometimes it can be bodged but not always. Despite what C R J_simpilot says, there is absolutely no problem with customisation and modification - I do plenty of that and have met no issues at all. If you find the need to refresh your files from steam, just back up your critical stuff first so it can be re-instated - although from what I have read Steam doesn't delete all your add-ons as it is prone to in some games. There are no updates to FSX-SE from Steam and are unlikely to be any. Development of the product is long-dead. John
  9. Well, I did as bidden and read that article but with respect it is concerned with VAS usage during a flight, a subject discussed many times. It says nothing about loading/startup procedures which is apparently the issue here. Yes you are right to say that loading many aircraft increases loading time, this increased dramatically in FSX owing to the "wonderful" idea of thumbnails, for which it will search in every aircraft's directories. But be assured quantities of scenery also add to that time. It was extremely noticable when I added high quality mesh for the whole world, it takes a lot longer to start a flight but the actual memory usage has hardly changed. I can speed up the loading by taking out chunks for other parts of the world but the time taken doing that probably outweights the gain! As you say, it is a very complex subject and there are many factors involved. John
  10. I think you may be mistaken. In FS9 at least, scenery is registered with FS as it starts up and only actually loads when the scenery comes within range. As far as I can tell, FSX acts exactly the same. The only benefit of trimming your scenery.cfg file, as recommended by many, is to reduce start-up time. If FS crashes as you load an aircraft, it is usually a problem with the aircraft (frequently the panel) or surrounding scenery that gulps up the memory. It can be incompatibilities with the hardware. It really is rare to need more than 4GB. John
  11. In the aircraft selection screen, there is a tick-box for "show all variants". Selecting that should hopefully solve that issue. John
  12. I have come across other panels which affect the appearance of landing gear. It will be a function of one of the panel's gauges. If you have chosen to change a feature of the aircraft from the way it is supplied and find it then doesn't work properly you can't really expect the developer's support. John
  13. I did a little search on the web laike anybody can, and the first result that came up was : https://www.wizzsim.com/download/17-fsx-ai-turboprops/506-fsx-p3d-regourd-aviation-atr-72-600.html I have never heard of that site before, if you are cautious about unknown sites seek elsewhere with your preferred search engine. John
  14. ... but the forward view has to be edited in the panel.cfg file Under [Views] there is an entry like this: VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=2.000, 0.000, 0.000 Adjust the part I have highlighted to suit. You have to reload the aircraft to see the result. John
  15. WinRar has an inbuilt repair feature to deal with apparently corrupt files. It is also possible that over-zealous anti-virus software might be interfering with the contents. John
  16. It isn't quite that simple, as is clear from the linked article. The person who sold it committed himself to an EULA when he bought the product and has infringed it. And PMDG are based in Viginia, USA, so have no reason to concern themseleves with EU law. John
  17. So Keith's initial question can be answered by taking this up with the person who sold him the product illegally and get a refund. And if he resists - take it up with the site it was sold through. John
  18. Fair point. But the error message is suggesting it isn't there. Hence my mention of deleting accidentally or deliberately. It is usually the cause of such error messages. John PS - Edwards is Area 119 in my default file . . . odd.
  19. Why would we? The issue will be peculiar to your setup, it seems likely you have deleted (accidentally or deliberately) some scenery. Just remove area 120 from your scenery.cfg file, you can do it through the Scenery Library if you know what you are looking for. John
  20. Sorry, I didn't get my reply into your 13 minute wndow. It sounds like the aircraft radius is set wrongly on the aircraft concerned. In the aircraft.cfg flie, under [airplane_geometry] change the wing_span= setting as required. Note that this in feet (not meters) and is diameter rather than radius so it should work out to double the defined gate size. John
  21. It may be being over-ridden by an add-on utility - as has been said it should work fine "out of the box". You can assign the function to another key in Settings if you want. John
  22. Perhaps tell us which . . .? Then somebody can actually check and compare instead of guessing. John
  23. Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have the Instant Scenery Demo running fine and I created some test scenery with it yesterday. My overall situation is much like yours - I am a recent convert from a long adherance to FS9. I have found that several utilities (including some commercial ones) do not seem to work with FSX-SE as they date from before SE was introduced and have never been updated for compatibility. I also have Norton Internet Security and on principle I never turn it off to install anything despite vendors gleefully telling you to do so. What you are experiencing is clearly not do do with whether the add-on appears in the menu system then. So I am trying to think of other differences between your setup and mine. The only other thoughts I can offer are as follows: From https://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=iscen3 System Requirements / FS Version Compatibility http://www.flight1.com/imgmain/fs2k4boxfront.jpghttp://www.flight1.com/imgmain/fsxbox.jpg MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X / 2004 / Lockheed Martin P3D (1.x, 2, 3) Windows 10 (may not install on other operating systems) Processor - 2.8 GHz Memory - 1 Gb RAM Hard Drive - 2.7Gb Video Card - 256 Mb I don't think you have said what operating system you are using but I can say that despite what is said above I found it installed on Windows 7 without issue. That being said, both my FSX-SE and the Instant Scenery demo are on a completely separate drive to Windows which may have an effect. I also use "Run as Administrator" for FSX-SE. Although you say that your FSX is not installed under Program Files, it looks like your Instant Sceney is? Have you tried installing it elsewhere? On pages 7 and 8 of the manual (assuming the manual with the demo is the same as the full version) there is a section concerning installation with Windows 7 and Vista which may be pertinent in your circumstances. Beyond that, I am out of ideas I'm afraid. John
  24. Flight One seem very reluctant to go back to developers to fix things for compatibility with FSX-SE. These instructions certainly work with the Demo version, so I feel sure they will work with the full version too: https://www.simforums.com/forums/instant-scenery-and-fsx-se_topic57036.html Follow the instructions in the third post. Note that this description suggests the files are DLL files. They are not - they are text files written in XML markup language. You should edit them in a plain text editor - Notepad will do. The final post seems a bit garbled to me, but I think what it is saying is a reminder to "show hidden files" which you can configure through the Windows Control Panel. I also recommend un-ticking "hide extensions for known file types" too, if you haven't done so already. Let us know how you get on. John
  25. Clicking on Edit Area in the Scenery Library will tell you the name of the directory the scenery is in. If that doesn't give enough detail for you, open the scenery.cfg file in a text editor and find the information there. John
