  1. The first thing to do is use the search function on the forum. Enter "folder", or "install folder", or "install scenery"... then click 'search' then look for one that might have information that you need. You'll find its a terrific way to find information. That way you'll learn to find things by yourself and not depend on others. If you then can't find what your looking for, start a new thread.
  2. Dude... excellent sitel! there are more in in the US than the rest of the world combined.
  3. In the other MSFS forum (the Microsoft one), there are tons of complaints about how the new drivers broke the sim. Be cautious... If it ain't broke... don't fix it.
  4. Yes, the C version is needed by Windows. Do not remove it! Windows has that goofy Library File structure, so that files appear to be in multiple places. The stuff on the C drive is like a directory to the actual install. In fact, if you put something in the C drive Community folder, it WILL also appear on the installed drive Community folder. Like your Document, Pictures or Music folders aren't actual files of those, it's just a reference to the real location of the those kinds of files.
  5. Steve ... Windows is ALWAYS the C: drive. Thats they way it installs. Art... Check your C:\Users\{your name}\App Data\Local\Packages... You'll find the "MicrosoftFlightSimulator_8weky3d8bbwe" folder... in there, under "LocalCache\Packages" you'll find the Community folder. You can install add-ons there and it moves/copies it to your installation drive. If you activate the developers mode, one of the options is to view the install path. Even tho you installed it on a non-C: drive...it will have the path to the Community folder on the C: drive. Much easier to get to.
  6. I think Nels should make a sub board for problems, so all the complainers can bitch with each other. I've had ZERO problems with MSFS. That's ZERO as in, NONE. I keep my PC in a lean state. I don't install garbage, and I if I do, it's gone the minute it causes problems. The fact that probably 10's of thousand of people have had ZERO problems is not news, so no one reports on that. Oh, and no one forced me to buy it. It was MY choice. I'm sure the percentage of people who have had problems is much lower than you think. It's just their constant complaining which make it seem like there's more. I'm sure Asobo and MS want to sell more MSFS packages, so why do you think that would take a chance of driving away potential customers on purpose? This IS the internet after all. We all know how things can spread and get out of control. If this really were the piece of garbage that some of you say it is, we would know it. So, clean your PC, get your refund, and leave us in peace. As my older brother used to say "don't go away mad... just go away" :) thanks PS. Lets do the math… 1 million copies sold, and to be generous, lets say 20,000 dissatisfied customers. 20,000 / 1,000,000 * 100 = 2% yes… thats TWO PERCENT!!! TWO out of every 100! if only government Health care analysts could do math
  7. Confirming g7rta's post. The initial installation package will be placed in your USERS folder. on your C drive. You will also use that path (C:/) for installing anything to the Community folder (Aircratft, airports, scenery, etc.). For the Core installtion, it will also create a microsoft.flightsim_8weky... folder, on that drive. So strangely you will have 2 places where there's that same folder (8weky), but the bulk of the asobo and msfs cfg/blg files will go to your designated installation drive. MSFS will take up about 11-13gb on your C drive, and up to 130-150 gb on your installation drive.
  8. Hey Glider... My download and installtion of the patch also went off without a hitch. Altho, it took quite a while - about 45 minutes. But once back, I noticed and immediate increase in performance and response. FPS went up by approximately 5-7, graphics and scenery look much better. I did have to re-install the Hulett-Devils Tower and the Niagara Falls packages to the Community folder, but they came back looking better than before. The Washington DC scenery survived without any problem, as did the tree size fix. I did notice the program boots to menu about 50 seconds sooner than previous. But the Sensitivity settings are no longer available. But I'm a GA flyer, so I can adjust. Over all, it's much improved. BTW. If your GA flyer, I highly recommend you download the Mt Rushmore, Devils tower and Niagrara Falls scenery and airports, cheap/free and impressive. The Washington landmarks is also welll worth the $20 or so.
  9. Howdy y'all... My cockpit view is assigned to the up/left. up/right...etc... on the POV toggle of my CH Products Yoke. it used to stay at the position I clicked to, but now, it returns to the default (Straight ahead) view all the time... it's kind of annoying. Is there a way to stop it from returning to forward automatically??
  10. I also am having issues with installation. I know to add the airport-kiag-niagara folder to the Community folder, but I am getting a long file name error and cannot complete the move. Please advise. thank you
  11. For those of you who can find the .exe... what is it's exact name, please?
  12. Yes.. there is a Community folder on the install path on the N drive... thats the one where I get the error. And if it didn't install properly, why is it working so well?
  13. ok.. so getting back on topic... When I installed MSFS from the MS Store, per the link in my e-mail notification, it started the download with a huge file. I changed the install path on the first opportunity that was presented. And the rest of the install whent without incident. I was able to start the program and fly the first time it completed to the Main Menu. However, when I went looking for the .exe file to enter it into MSI Afterburner to start the overclock with the app, I noticed I had a path on my C: drive under Users... in addition to the path on the N: drive that I changed it to during installation. The C drive has an _8wekyb3d folder with nearly everything... a packages/Community and Official, and in the Official is a folder called One Store, where all the Asobo folders for aircraft and airports, and all the FS-base folders. On the N: drive is the same data in a folder called "WPSystem". In that folder is a very long (almost 40 characters all number and dashes) folder with them contains a "Local" folder and under that "Packages" file with contains the Local/Packages/ then the _8wekyb3d folder and the digital ownership folder. In the _8wekyb3d folder is the same stuff thats on the C: drive. But, while the C drive path is 9gb... the N: path is almost 18gb. I still cannot locate the the .exe file in either place. But the program works fine, loads as quick as most and flies without stutter. I just wanna know where put this airport file. PS. I did the registry hack to enable long file names and still got the same error. It seems to be caused by one and all actually, of the subfolder files.
  14. ok... I extracted the zip file and attempted to move the "airport-kiag-niagra" folder to the Community folder, and got this error: I might just contact the author if this file for instructions... unless someone has an answer. :) thanks
  15. It's a custom install from the Microsoft Store... so, here's my Path (there is Nothing in the Community folder): The zip file consists of a main folder and subfolders as seen in the attachment..
  16. After searching this forum for "install scenery" and "installing scenery airports" and getting nothing useful - plan B - start a new thread. I downloaded from here (via GitHub) the Niagara (NY) airport and scenery (including the Falls, I hope). But there are no installation instructions. The developer must think we know, becasue he knows. So, I'll admit to you all, I don't know. lil' help, please?
  17. Aaron... there are 2 basic views...cockpit and exterior. In Cockpit ... use the UP arrow on your keyboard to raise your seat. This will lower the instruments in your point of view. When you look around, it'll be from that seat height. Lower your seat by using the DOWN arrow. But, from the cockpit view, you will always have the point of view from inside the aircraft - looking out, so, posts, wings, doors and struts will always be visable. Hope this helps.
  18. I would guess you need a newer graphics card. The good news is older cards will be reasonably priced when the 3xxx series comes out soon. But I would think you'd need a 10xx series minimum. with at least 4gb of vram. But just get the best you can afford.
  19. I haven't yet checked, but is thhis an assignable function you could map to a button?
  20. Johnyyz... The I7-4xxx series is at least 7 years old, and while it's still a very functional cpu, the new ones are much faster and more efficient. So, yeah.. you and me both. My current system is almost 6 years old... so, I'm planning on a new system this fall. I'd like to go to an I9, 10900. That should speed things up considerably. My current system will replace my current back-up (Pentium 4 dual core 550), which will be ... retired.
  21. I have the exact same MB(Asus Z97-A), memory (32gb(8x4) 1600mhz, Windows 10(64/1906), but with a nVidia RTX 2060 Super and an I7 4770k. 22. with your motherboard(Asus Z97A) and a 4790k (the k means its overclockable), you can use the Asus AI Suite to find the best overclock for your CPU. Try the 5-way optimization. It will find the best fan settings, CPU frequency and voltage. It will do all the testing and them make a recommendation. You can use the recommendation, or make adjustments to it and save. The latest one for the Z97A is AI Suite 3. You should also update your bios to the latest available (28.01) before you do this. Do you have CPU-Z? ( by CPUID)... if not, google it and download it. It's free, and will tell you everything you need to know about your hardware (MB, CPU, Memory, GPU). But under no circumstances will you be able to run at Ultra with an i7-4790k. Thats just a fact.
  23. Just believe what you wanna believe... It helps some people...but doesn't help other people. I have nearly the same set (cpu and MB) but with a rxt2060S, and using the setting I had with 16gb of ram, I got nearly double the fps when I went up to 32gb. Of course, I upped a bunch of settings, one at a time, with a short, low and slow over an urban area, to get a solid, reliable 35-45 fps. I don't really care that I can't run at Ultra. My view is as good as it can be for the hardware I have. In your case, if you want more fps, I would recommend a better gpu.
  24. they removed the extra page... they actually added the new information to the main page of guide features. click on one of the page thumbnails to see the "Maximize Performance" https://sofly.io/flight-simulator-guide/ OK..there's no thumbnail page for the performance stuff... but they added it to the page. I bought mine from Nels's store, so I'm waiting for my updated version from here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- updated version available and downloaded... good information in new sections. It's still more of a glossy guide than a manual, but for only 14 bucks, its pretty slick.
  25. When will the new version(v1.10) be available. SoFly said I should get the update from the vendor I bought it from. They said it's already been sent.
