  1. make sure you're not flying in Developer Mode. There's no flight tracking when it's on.
  2. I agree with this strategy. If it ain't broke, dont' fix it. I only install scenery - no .cfg mods, no deep fixes. or registry changes. I think many of the problems people have is they install any tom, dick or harry software that alters the normal working of the software, then go nuts when things are 'broke' after an update. 3rd party NAV planners, FPS counters, SIM rate controllers all have an affect on the software. Asobo built this SIM from scratch. It's NOT a new version of FSX, or a partial clone of X-plane. Lets let them solve the problems of the current version before we begin polluting it with outside code.
  3. Also..make sure you have xBox on your PC. Get it from the MicroSoft Store. I think it's still labeled as a Beta, at least it was when I downloaded it in August. MSFS needs that to be on your PC in order to run. You may have to create a new account for the xBox, but once created, MSFS will not ask you ever again. It will load it and run it from then on whenever you launch the program.
  4. Is there a way to get notified when the manual is updated?
  5. Lets say I crashed, and I chose to reset the flight... is there a way to change the aircraft before I try again? There isn't an option in the on screen drop down menu... or, at least, I can't decipher it. lil'help please?
  6. No offense taken. I just capped that "NOT" because I get frustrated with people not understanding this is a new piece of software. The programmers at Asobo didn't base it on FSX or any of the other versions. It was built new, from scratch. As such, it doesn't have 20+ years of trial and error, and develpment behind it. If you'd like a tower view, add it to the Wish List over at the MicroSoft Flight Simulator site. Many things requested have been added.
  7. Doc... did you name them something else? and not just over-wrote the default? because that happened to me, but you should always rename your default settings to something else and SAVE them. I had backups of the Keyboard Profile, the Mouse Profile and the Yoke profile. after the update, I simply loaded the saved profiles and voila, I was back to where was when last used. Apparently, the update did not remove my saved profiles.
  8. When MSFS first installs, it creates folders and files in the C:\Users folder. During install, it will ask you if you want to install to a different path. If you choose a differnt path, it still has to install some folders/files on your C drive, but they are used to point to your chosen path. Even so, you'll find quite a few gigs of data in your User folder. But the bulk of the install is on your chose path. You may be able to repair the install by going to "Add or Remove Programs" in system settings, clicking on MSFS, then "Advanced Options" and try to "repair" the installation.
  9. Considering the US has more airport ID's than all the rest of the world combined, it's a wise choice. I hope Europe is next, I'd like to fly there, but I have no idea what anything should look like.
  10. Not that Tim needs his work checked :) I can verify that all my add-ons are indeed listed in the Context folder, and like he stated all entries contain NO upper case letters. Thrid party and solo modders must know this, because there are no caps anywhere in all their file names.
  11. No Tower view... remember, this is NOT a MicroSoft produced product, so it's NOT built ontop of FSX. As stated when first announced, this Sim was built from scratch, without MS, by Asobo. As for the top down view, it's in the external camera... Look Down.
  12. There's also an F11 to save button. Plus, make sure you're NOT in Developer Mode. Lots of things change when you've got that on.
  13. Many of the newer nVidia cards will ONLY run on 64 bit systems. I have a RTX 2060 S that does not have any 32 bit drivers. So, I had to abandon Windows 7 in my dual boot system. The card simply cannot be run on a 32 bit system. When I log into Win7, i have to use generic drivers with a max resolition of 1200x800. Which looks pretty funky on a 34" 21:9 4k capable monitor.
  14. Hey guys... you know that Local Cache can be used to save the areas you fly most in, for off-line flights. And it's not a data hog either. I cached eastern Wisconsin and Illinois, from Menomonee, MI to Gary Indiana and it only took 8gbs. Normal detail except high detail around Green Bay, Milwaukee and NE Illinois including Chicago. West to Rockford, up Madison and Tomahawk.
  15. I just downloaded it too... I must have a fast connection, cuz it only took 6 minutes. But when the game links you to the Store... it's a little confusing, eh? it says "Free", but the only way to get it is click "Buy and Download". It's only then that they explain that you will be awarded 'credit' which will be redeemed in the store to "pay" for the download. Sounds like some bean counters are in charge.
  16. I do not understand why some people need to post that they are not going to use MSFS. We really do not care that you aren't using it. And once you stop using it... there's no need for you to continue to post here, right? If you want the rest of us to justify your decision... well, that ain't gonna happen. For most of us, we're quite satisfied. So. to all those who are not going to use this software anymore... good-bye, and have a nice day :)
  17. I read an article about the rtx 3080 scalpers on e-bay. Apparently, there's a loop hole where, when the auction ends, the winning bidder can opt out. It will go onto their profile as a buyer who backed out. But get this, people are creating new/fake buyers, bidding $10,000 ... then backing out - never intending to buy. Thus thwarting the scalpers. I've been watching e-bay on this matter and it is indeed happening. RTX 3080 cards put up for auction and within a day, someone bids $10k... then no one else bids. and they really only have to do this until the supply reaches the normal outlets, and the demand lessons becasue their not so rare. Brilliant... scamming the scammers!
  18. Yeowza! That's one huge cooler! Hope you have a big case. It'll block access to your RAM and I hope it has longish power cords on the fans. Performance-wise, it's rated in the middle of the pack according to a 2018 Tweaktown review: https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8842/quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-cpu-cooler-review/index.html But, the trade-off is it's very very quiet. Installation looks... ummm...challenging for a first timer. But if you've installed CPU coolers before, it's no more difficult than the rest. The price is nice for a 2 fan cooler. If you don't plan on overclocking too much, it should be more than enough. Remember, when it comes to thermal paste, too much actually heats your CPU, so less is better. :) I expect awesome screen shots soon. Which motherboard did you go with?
  19. Hey Mac... You might be able to adjust the sim by adjusting your monitor. Lower the brightness and increase the contrast... or something. See if you monitor is capable of adjustment. If you're lucky, it may have profiles... that way you could save your MSFS view and just use it when flying. Just a thought. But, so far... it looks like it IS just you :)
  20. yup... even better. But you still have to create the shortcut first. And to add it to your Send To: 1. press Windows+R 2. type: shell:sendto 3. drag the desktop shortcut to the folder 4. Exit by clicking the red X - upper right 5. Check by right clicking on any icon on your desktop, scroll down to "Send to" and check the contents of the Send to for your MSFS Community shortcut.
  21. For those of us who install add on scenery, aircraft and anything that goes in the Community Folder, here's a way to make that easy and quick. Create a shortcut on your desktop for the path to your Community folder. 1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your Community folder. 2. Click on the Folder icon to reveal the full path: 3. Right Click to Copy 4. Right Click on desktop and create New Shortcut and Paste the copied path 5. Click Next, name your new shortcut The next time you want to save something to the Community folder, Copy the folder you want, double click on the desktop shortcut, and just paste into the Community folder.
  22. You can use the Community folder on your C: drive if thats more convenient. It's the one I use. Everything I've placed in the C Community folder also appears in the Community folder on the drive I installed it to. As to why... probably because when you install any software, it needs access to the drive your Windows installtion is on, which is always the C drive. Any software needs to unpack and place folders somewhere before it does an actual installation - and every single Windows computer has a C drive. It also needs to place files in places (Program Files, User, System, App, etc.) the OS can find every time - again, the C drive. It also needs to modify your Registry, which is always on the C drive. So while the core components of any software may reside on the drive of your choosing, the files that allow the OS to open and execute the code must be on the OS drive. PS> Here's a tip: If you don't want to go into Windows Explorer and dive down to the Community fold every time, do it once...then create a shortcut on your desktop with the path as it appears when you finally arrive at the Community folder. Just highlight the folder icon, copy the path, right click on desktop, Create Shortcut, paste path, name the short cut, then click OK. You'll have the path to the Community folder available with one click. When you want to put something there - copy the folder you want, click on your desktop path, then Paste. There you go.
  23. that file is: oversized_trees_workaround.zip There's also another mentioned at the MSFS Forum: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/how-to-fix-the-tree-trees-height-bug-how-to-guide-with-pics/139607/3
  24. I waited until the noise died down... once people stopped posting here, and in the MSFS forum...I downloaded and clean installed. No issues, no problems... fps increased slightly ~2-5%
  25. Tiger1962... I do not have access to that folder, and when I try to access it..everything is greyed out... so, no access for me. 1 user PC...admin rights thru-out.
