  3. X-Plane 10.20+ Consolidated PB2Y Coronado

X-Plane 10.20+ Consolidated PB2Y Coronado 1.3. The Consolidated PB2Y Coronado was to have replaced the PBY Catalina as the Navy's patrol flying boat during the Second World War; the Catalina being a prewar design. However the Coronado failed to have a comparable range to the Catalina and was not considered as a replacement. In addition, the first versions were fitted with a single fin/rudder configuration that resulted in stability problems. The stability issues were resolved by using the twin rudder configuration that placed the control surfaces in the prop wash of the engines. The Coronado did go on to have a role in transport and patrol duties. By Ron Norvelle.

  8. X-Plane 10 Consolidated B-24 Liberator 'Army'

X-Plane 10 Consolidated B-24 Liberator 'Army'. The Consolidated B24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber, designed by Consolidated Aircraft. Often compared with the better-known B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24 was a more modern design with a higher top speed, greater range, and a heavier bomb load; it was also more difficult to fly, with heavy control forces and poor formation-flying characteristics. The B-24 ended World War II as the most produced heavy bomber in history. At over 18,400 units, half by Ford Motor Company, it still holds the distinction as the most-produced American military aircraft. By Larry Cole.

  12. X-Plane 8 And 9 Polikarpov I-16 Rata

X-Plane 8 And 9 Polikarpov I-16 Rata. The diminutive I-16 was the backbone of the USSR air force before WW2 until 1943. It was a very advanced design for its time and is much fun to fly. Beware of torque. Its small size combined with a 900 HP engine makes it a nervous beast which is a challenge to master. Thanks to Dataroots for providing the sound files. Thanks also to Ho-Hun for custom instruments and Spider for the pilot figure. By Jacques Brault.

The Consolidated B32 Dominator (Consolidated Model 34) was a heavy bomber made for United States Army Air Forces during World War II, and had the distinction of being the last Allied aircraft to be engaged in combat during World War II. It was developed in parallel with the Boeing B-29 Superfortress as a fallback design should the Superfortress prove unsuccessful. 14. X-Plane 10 Aichi D3A1 Val

X-Plane 10 Aichi D3A1 Val. The Aichi D3A was a World War II carrier-borne dive bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was the primary dive bomber in the Imperial Japanese Navy, and participated in almost all actions, including the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Aichi D3A was the first Japanese aircraft to bomb American targets in World War II, commencing with Pearl Harbor and U.S. bases in the Philippines, such as Clark Air Force Base. During the course of the Second World War, the Val dive bomber sank more Allied warships than any other Axis aircraft. despite being considered somewhat obsolescent when the war started. 17. X-Plane 8 And 9 P-51D Mustang

X-Plane 8 And 9 P-51D Mustang "Duchess Arlene". This is a rendition of the famed Duchess Arlene as flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. This group of pilots is know for never losing a B17 to enemy fire as bomber escort. The panel was done by Blighter and has a 'raising' sight. This is handy when using the 3D cockpit otherwise it will hinder the view in 3D mode. The switch for this is in the lower left hand corner of the panel. 20. X-Plane 9.70+ Supermarine Seafire FR.46

X-Plane 9.70+ Supermarine Seafire FR.46. The Supermarine Seafire was a naval version of the Supermarine Spitfire adapted for operation from aircraft carriers. The name Seafire was arrived at by abbreviating the longer name Sea Spitfire. The Seafire F Mk 46 and FR Mk 46 was a Spitfire F Mk 22 modified to naval standard and featured the cut down rear fuselage and "teardrop" canopy. Again the wing had not been modified to fold. 21. X-Plane 8 And 9 DeHavilland DH-98 Mosquito

X-Plane 8 And 9 DeHavilland DH-98 Mosquito. This is actually a refresh of an older Mosquito with new sound files (good for both v8 and v9) by Dataroots, better looking pilot figures by Scooter, some improvements in the engines specs and some changes in the panel. It is recommended that v9 users open the plane in Plane Maker, go to the engine specs menu and check the "inverted fuel and oil systems" checkbox. This will prevent choking the engines in high-G manoeuvres. By Jacques Brault.

The Avro Anson was a British twin-engine, multi-role aircraft that served with the Royal Air Force, Fleet Air Arm and numerous other air forces during the Second World War and afterwards. Named for British admiral George Anson, it was originally designed for maritime reconnaissance but was soon rendered obsolete. 23. X-Plane 8 And 9 Douglas TBD-1 Devastator

X-Plane 8 And 9 Douglas TBD-1 Devastator. Appearing in 1936, the Devastator was an advanced aircraft for its time. It was already outdated when the war started being too slow but the courageous action of its pilots at the battle of Corral Sea helped turn the tide of the Pacific war. Special instructions: the plane comes in four different liveries. XP-8 users should copy/paste the new liveries from the liveries directory to the main directory. Thanks to Dataroots for the sound files and to Scooter for the pilot figures. Some switches were borrowed from Ho-Hun, thanks also. By Jacques Brault.
