  1. MSFS is still in development and improvents are being made each month. It is the future of flight simming just like FSX was in 2006. In time it will mature, the bugs will be ironed out and there will be lots of freeware and payware to have fun with too. It has taken me a while to get to grips with it and I am still learning new stuff every day, but in time, I will have it running just how I want it. It's such an advance on FSX in so many ways, so don't give up on it too soon. At the moment, I'm enjoying the flying, navigatiin, beautiful scenery and tons of freeware (I probably download something every day). With FSX I spent a lot of time creating scenery and look forward to doing that in MSFS in due course, but for now I am just marveling at how far we have come.
  2. There is a 'shared cockpit' addon on Github. I haven't tried it or know how functional it is. https://github.com/Sequal32/yourcontrols
  3. I have W10 on a 250gb SATA SSD and MSFS on a 1tb M.2 SSD. I've not done any measurements, so would be interested to know whether the better transfer rates from the M.2 are measurable. I would imagine my loading times have improved slightly, but not sure whether the simulator runs any more smoothly.
  4. Haven't found it in msfs yet, but i do remember flying it in fsx and that it was quite challenging.
  5. I'm using AI generated traffic at the moment because (at least in the UK) there is harldly any rw traffic at all.
  6. Haha....I knew someone would say that. I've already read one in depth review which suggests sticking with the old driver for now, but 2 or 3 people have said it's fine, so will wait until the moaning or ecstacy begins
  7. Just noticed that the new 461.40 driver has been released. Anyone downloaded yet and have any feedback? https://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/461.40/461.40-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf
  8. Altitude hold will hold your altitude at your given setting. You need to activate the the approach button (APP) to follow the glide slope.
  9. I seem to spend more hours twiddling with and tweaking msfs and my system than I do flying and spend loads of time test flying in the same area to see what effect my latest tweak has had. I was the same in FSX and FS9 though and probably in even earlier versions. System tweaking, graphics tweaking, aircraft tweaking, environment tweaking, controller tweaking, scenery tweaking - is there no end to the amount of tweaking I have to do? :)
  10. That's odd, but I have seen something even odder in respect of throttle settings. I have a piece of freeware photoscenery which causes my throttle to cut in the same place every time I fly over it. Now how can a piece of scenery possibly affect your power?
  11. Haha, keep away from anything moist (e.g. cloud) when the OAT is below zero celsius. Icing seems quite well modelled in msfs to me, though I don't remember seeing it in previous sims. New simmers should also be aware that due to the Venturi effect on the carburettor, carb icing can occur at significantly higher temperatures and use carb heat for descent or any power setting below the green arc. In the RW, we also check the power drop using carb heat in our pre flight and never have it set to taxi due to the risk of sucking dirt into the carb ( easy to forget to push it back in after landing). For new simmers wondering why there is carburettor heat on the 152 and not the 172, the 172 has fuel injectors rather than a carburettor (unlike the old 172s I have flown).
  12. I'm sure someone wil do it before long. A few guys are doing some pretty decent freeware airports.
  13. https://flightsim.to/ is where I get most of my freeware addons. Lots to keep you busy there. A few files at AVSIM too.
  14. I read somewhere that there will be 5 new photo cities in the update. Guessing London, Birmingham and Manchester may be 3 of them, but really hoping for Bristol (even though Mark Taylor's creation is working well for me). I know Bluesky have done Bristol, so it's a reasonable possibility. I think the UK coasts, beaches, cliffs and watermasks need a bit of tinkering and the higher LOD data will improve things. Then there are regiinal airports. Not sure how many will be done or how well they will be done, but we should find out in a week or so. Looking forward to the update immensely.
  15. She would argue that he's the one on the right.................and continue to argue about it for the next half an hour.
  16. My system was so old (though it ran FSX fine) that I decided to do a full system rebuild using my old SSDs and monitor. Started with a 2700 with a GTX 3070 vid card and 16 gb of DDR4 running on a Tomahawk 450 Carbon Pro mobo. I didn't need to go to mad as I'm only running in 1080. Since then I've swapped out the 2700 for a 5600X and managed to sell the 2700 for what I paid for it (must have got a good deal on that). I've now added a 1TB m.2 drive and cloned MSFS onto it and intend to stick another 16 gb of RAM into it soon (my birthday iscoming and RAM isn't that expensive). This system is fine for 1080, but I suspect would stillbe a bit lightweight if I wanted to go to 4k. I guess I would need an RTX3080 and a new PSU to go with it I got a decent deal on the 3070 £460), so would probably make a bit if I decided to sell that. Never go anywhere near a flight simulator with minimum specs Even max specs can struggle once you start putting in addons.
  17. I noticed that too, but put it down to poor watermasking. Now we know what the issue is, I'm hoping that Asobo will fix in the Jan update along with the terrain spikes.
  18. MSFS is far more realistic in that respect and whilst I could fly IFR in FSX, I certainly have not mastered it yet in MSFS. A masterpiece for the die hards, but might put off the casual simmers who might be a big part of the market.
  19. Nice system like that, chuck in another 3080 and it will soon pay for itself mining crypto when you are not using it. I'm making about £100 pm with a 3070 hashing at around 65 MH/s and those 3080s will hash at about 100 each :)
  20. Windshield ice should be the least of your concerns. If the windshield is icing than so are your wings - and that really is not good. I saw a friend fly a glider with wet wings once and at about 1000 feet, they iced up in clear air and he practically fell out of the sky. A scary moment for all who were there, but the pilot had to change his underpants on landing.
  21. Hi Keith, I've seen a couple of the videos but could do with a written step by step guide to follow. Do you know of a pdf or other written set of instructions? Alternatively, I suppose I could watch a video and take notes. My default (system test) flight is in and out of UK2000 EGGD, so I Fly over WSM pier most days (thanks again for that one). I want to have a go at creating WSM from google as I did a lot of gliding there in the 80s, though most of the airfield has now sadly become a housing estate.
  22. Whilst a lack of boats maybe a bit of an immersion killer, I also find the lack of trains and immersion killer too. Looking forward to the day that Microsoft will add these. I do think that I read somewhere that they were looking at this.
