  1. " I think I night try an ir tracker headset next and see if that gives somewhat the same feel." I really enjoy the instinctive viewing capability of my IR unit without having to resort to Braille to use keyboard or mouse functions or more importantly drink a beverage - lol That said, true VR is doubtless more 'immersive'.
  2. I did have to do the Launch the new Xbox app thing, but then the World Update downloaded just fine, same for then going into Content Manager and downloading the 5 or 6 updates that were available. YES, I DO agree that it should NOT be this complicated or problem prone just to update an existing game, but I ain't no programmer ner nuthin' and this game does cover the whole darn World, so it's doubtless a far more complex process than I could even imagine.
  3. Never mind, I found the link
  4. An oddity today flying the A-1C, internal cabin altimeter is properly registering a climb, external view altimeter is showing a descent?
  5. I dunno. I plan on getting off the interweb forums and sim-flying around a bit before supper.
  6. Exterior view - and I use the two thumb switches on the right handle of the yoke by the red button for elevator and aileron/rudder trim.
  7. And this evening, just some local flying staying within 40 miles of MDW.
  8. Appleton, WI, to KOSH to Hartford Muni. A bit overcast but a fun flight. AND I now know how to take a screenshot mid-flight - lol
  9. I decided to work around the problem and bought the Stearman and the Jabiru from the Marketplace. They seem to work just fine and dandy. So the wonky Kitfox can just sit in my hangar and collect dust - lol
  10. I'm almost positive that I've set 'something' wrong? I dunno, but I can't get the glass panels in the Kitfox to turn on? Clicking the Master and Avionics switches on and off has NO effect? Engine still runs, the plane flies 'OK' but no panels? This is the BT version, puchased thru the Marketplace. I'm 'guessing' I have inadvertently clicked off 'something' in the Genral or other Options that is causing this? Any and all help greatly appreciated.
  11. There's a plentiful number of gripes, so I thought I'd start a thread with MY positive experience with the new Upgrade this morning. It took 'about' 30-45 minutes to download and install the Basic upgrade, then another 15-20 minutes for 8 or 9 other upgrades I found in the Marketplace area to include my Deluxe version upgrade. I tried the nice scenery tour flight around the Giza pyramids without issue, then a couple flights out of my home base Midway Airport in Chicago. Landed at Meiggs without incident too. The scenery to my aging eyeballs looks about the same as pre-Upgrade, so no complaints there either. I then exited the program, waited a few minutes and restarted it without a problem, it 'seems' to me that it loads just slightly quicker than before? I dunno. Then a couple more flight from a few airports - no issues. I must sincerely apologize and admit that I too am one of those 'annoying' people who has never experienced a CTD with MSFS 2020 since I installed it last year. No, I don't/can't run it at Ultra but many of my settings ARE at High and it works just fine and dandy, even with my mid-range desktop PC. Please understand I am NOT slamming those who ARE having issues, I'm merely stating MY positive experiences with the game in contrast. I 'suspect' however that I am NOT in the minority of MSFS 2020 owners, quite the opposite in fact. So take the commentary for what its worth considering how much you paid to read my post - lol
  12. Which airplanes and perhaps a couple examples of missing airport codes you're using could be helpful.
  13. This website has a simple system test to verify if your rig can run MSFS 2020 - https://www.pcgamebenchmark.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-system-requirements
  14. I have the same yoke & quadrant and it works just fine in MSFS 2020. However... the quadrant does not show up as a 'separate' item in the controls, just the yoke, but you can map the levers to whatever function you wish in the same manner as you assign other things. In the Controls section, select the yoke, then go to the desired function e.g. Throttle axis, clear whatever is currently linked to it and then operate the lever you want to use and MSFS will detect it. Then just save before exiting that screen. The other two levers and three rocker switches on the quadrant can be similarly assigned as you wish.
  15. Do note that it's a good idea to buy the version you'll really want rather than a lower cost one with the thought of 'upgrading' later. There is NO Microsoft 'discount' for upgrading, more like paying full price each timer for each version.
  16. IF you want to fly MSFS 2020 then buy it (and whatever hardware fits your budget) and fly it now. If you don't want to play this game now? Don't. Two years from now will bring whatever two years from now will bring. You could be in 2023 with two years experienece and fun satisfaction with MSFS or just two years older still wondering what MSFS is all about. Life is a series of choices. You pays yer money and you takes yer chances.
  17. Does anything happen when you click on the 'Get Updates' button at the upper right of the screen?
  18. In MY opinion, and the OP did ask for opinions, I have found it to be true that every 3-5 years a jumbo feature-packed latest and greatest new whiz-bang piece of amusement software is created that pretty much forces me to scrap my current desktop Windows PC and buy an upgraded one if I want to play said software. I did this with MSFS2020, along with buying 200mbps Xfinity servce, a yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder pedals and a head tracking rig to enhance my simulated flight experience. My truly 'budget' PC hardware allows me to enjoy MSFS at moderate levels of gameplay and that suffices.... for now -lol Asobo's creation is truly an amazing one and its sheer complexity is born out by how difficult it is to correct its minor flaws and also update and improve it on an ongoing basis. MSFS 2020 is not 'kind' to "old but reliable" hardware and about all I can do is stay within my limited budget and enjoy the game at the levels that budget presents. I heartily agree with the notion of a balanced 'trinity' of CPU/GPU/Internet Speed for best (for me) performance. FWIW I have NOT experienced a CTD or update issue to date.... knock wood.
  19. A substantial portion of MSFS 2020 IS online. This latest and IMHO greatest iteration of home flight sims is VERY demanding of PC resources too. These are two well-known factors that should influence one's decision to purchase and play this game. In my case I purposely upgraded my PC to meet at least the published middle recommendation and increased my XFinity internet to 200mbps which works marvelously. Since the game only uses a person's internet bandwidth while playing the game, I don't understand how it could influence one's internet access capabilities outside of gameplay time? As to the other comment, downloading (or uploading) anything online does NOT 'slow down' my internet speed, my internet speed is whatever my provider is supplying at that moment. It DOES use bandwidth which could limit what else I could be doing at the same time online, but the speed is not slowed down.
  20. Here you go, it would seem the work is being used 'incorrectly'? https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/594184-the-word-bespoke/
  21. And THAT my friends is why that ice cream store chain makes all them flavors. Some folks still delight in playing the text version of Zork, and that's fine too. Thankfully we ALL get to choose how we spend the 24 hours we all get each day. Asobo/Microsoft came out with this latest flight sim version, which I find spectacular by the way, but it did NOT come with a requirement that everyone purchase and use it. You only gotta keep YOU happy after all. I make MY daily choices based solely upon what I want to do each day with MY 24. Now and then that includes plugging in the various flight-sim hardware I bought and taking virtual flight anywhere on the globe I care to visit.
  22. Dan - I also have the Nemeth Aerolite 103 and DO enjoy it. I 'could' also give you a comparison to this new offering and MY perspective on it..... but I'd have to charge you $10.;)
  23. MY version of MSFS 2020 must be defective? Cuz even on my obviously 'less than ideal' desktop PC using my 'less than greatest' sim hardware, the durn thing just kinda keeps on working. I did not buy a sixty buck game expecting it to rival a NASA shuttle flight simulator either. I was promised great, nay stunning graphics which it does provide. I was promised the whole world at my fingertips... and by golly there it is. I was promised a variety of aircraft I could pretend I was flying and it does not disappoint. Does it still have bugs & glitches? I reckon so but honestly I've not experienced any that weren't caused by either MY hardware or MY ignorance of how stuff in the sim worked and needed to be set up. I see Asobo making constant upgrades and working to fix the bugs and I appreciate it is a Herculean task. But again, the thing only cost me like $60 and in my 72 years I've spent a whole lot more for a whole lot less. lol
  24. Glad to hear you got it all sorted out - AND happy that it wasn't the sim causing the issues.
