  1. I was a passenger on a turboprop (Q400) about an hour ago and when we landed at Calgary I kept this comment in mind; I can confirm you are correct. After touchdown, and as I was looking at the prop, the pilot went into the beta range. Indeed, it didn't look any different even though the sound and vibrtation was very obvious.
  2. Glad it's up and running again. Reinstallation is of this baby is not trivial...but sometimes there's no other option.
  3. If it's only showing as 2GB installed, then something has gone very wrong. It's much much larger than that, as I'm sure you know. Sounds like someone is headed for a reinstallation...Good luck!
  4. Ah great. I'm glad it's resolved. Your system ought not to have that kind of problems
  5. I doubt it. What's the RAM usage while running the game? I rarely go over 12GB. Are you getting any big stutters like this when approaching complex areas? What CPU and GPU are you using? Also worth asking, do you use custom scenery for Waxahachi?
  6. The joystick is a necessity. But the rest are optional to make life easier and more immersive. Ha, nice catch. I'm a South African expat that made a life in New Scotland (Nova Scotia). The provincial flag is colour inverterted from the "Old" Scotland.
  7. Lots of questions! Here are some thoughts for some of your issues: I find the views a bit cumbersome too, but you learn to live with it. Track IR helps a lot to simulate head movement for quick glances, but I don't have experience with one. As a bandaid, I use my joystick hat switch with the speed setting at 100% and the momentum setting at 0%. It provides precise and quick view panning An ultra-wide monitor helps a lot to expand your field of view. With stuff like flaps, gear, mixture, etc., I just do my best to mentally keep up with the state of my virtual plane - GUMPS is a good start. Memorising and rehearsing a few critical checklist items helps a lot. To simplify, I try to fly a single type for a prolonged period (Baron, currently) to get good at it, your learn the essentials pretty quickly. I've found the internet speed can improve if you use a VPN, but it can also make it worse - I've personally experienced both.
  8. Where was that screenshot taken? I know some countries, as well as locations at higher latitudes, have pretty appalling DEM data. I'd be happy to see how it looks on my PC if you give me a rough idea of where to look.
  9. In my time here, 95% of the people are a joy to interact with and I like helping where I can, so I'm willing to put a great deal of effort into being as helpful as possible. In return, is it unreasonable to expect that the person needing help be polite and put a little thought into the post? I know I do. Regardless, the "having to deal with all kinds of people" is actually not something people generally like to do on a daily basis - most people avoid other people that bug them for whatever reason, much less help them. Online is the same.
  10. I enjoy this forum quite a bit and almost always get help. As for giving help, two things dissaude me from helping others: 1. When someone posts a 2500 word treatise before getting to the actual question. 2. When someone vomits out a question with entitled tone, like we're his highly paid personal tech support. I.e., demanding help, not asking for help. Other than that, I will always, 100% of the time, guaranteed, help if i can.
  11. The most important file, bar none, is flightsimulator.exe. Without that, I find the sim unplayble. On a slightly more serious note, if I could choose only one, I'd go with the flybywire installer, mostly for FSLTL.
  12. This seems to sum it up for me. I recall software bugs back in the day, but from what I could tell they were simply edge cases not caught during development. These days software seems to get shipped with known, and sometimes major, bugs. I can think of many many reasons why this is, but that would take the discussion into the realms of corporate culture, capitalism, management styles, marketing, work ethic, millenials, politics, AI, the occult, and the colour pink...so let's not go there.
  13. It's a good suggestion to try on another computer, if you can. Another thing, which may or may not be applicable to you: I have two microsoft accounts. Sometimes my pasword manager autofills the information of the incorrect one - so if you have more than one, or there's someone in the house that uses the same computer with different login credentials, check that you're using the correct account.
  14. I've also seen this happen many times; but most reproduceably at Cape Town Intl. I've yet to determine what triggers the issue - sometimes it looks perfect, other times not. Very strange.
  15. Step 4 is the nuclear option and should have solved the issue. Perhaps there really is something wrong with your GPU. Try running something like 3D mark. Try both the Firestrike and Timespy benchmarks - One is DirectX 11 and the other 12, but I don't remember which is which. If you get the error during one of these tests, it could be your GPU.
  16. I've had this issue intermittendly with a number of nVidia graphics cards (770, 970, and 1660). I've been using an AMD one for a month or two and haven't had it happen, but it's not been that long so it might still; I'm certainly not saying it AMD is immune. Scratch that. I just remembered an instance where it happened on the RX5700. I was applying a wicked overclock on it, though, so easily explainable. Anyway, I would uninstall the drivers with DDU and install the last version that worked well.
  17. Congratulations! Getting new toys are a lot of fun. With that horespower, you can bump up your resolution to 4K easily. Or as @davidc2 said, VR should be awesome.
  18. Also worth mentioning that if Dev mode is on, nothing that you do in the sim counts. I've had it on a couple of times and then forgot to turn it off - so those landings didn't count either.
  19. I've noticed that touch-and-goes aren't counted. And sometimes, for whatever reason, a perfectly fine landing would also not count. But I don't think the issue of missing landings are strictly ATC clearance related, because my landings on discovery flights, which don't include ATC, were counted. Also: I remember that a particular 3rd party replay tool would make the logbook increment your landings/takeoffs if that was part of the replay. I don't know about the buil-in experimental replay tool, however.
  20. 55%. 505 Takeoffs and 278 Landings as of today. I'm currently working on getting them equal by landing whenever I take off as well as landing on Discovery Flights. I think the large imbalance is due to (too) many FPS tuning flights and not having much time to complete a whole flight (average of 15 minutes a day, according to my logbook) . Vote and tell us your ratio along with your list of excuses.
  21. That's rough, but it also doesn't sound right. I've installed my copy of MSFS 5 or 6 times over the last two years, and have only needed to ever buy it once. I bought it on the microsoft store. It's unfortunate that you spent the money already. But if I may, I would have asked around first - it's a lot of money (for me anyway) and worth a second opinion. That said, if mrzippy is correct, you may just have received a raw deal.
  22. Off topic, but what is this? I exclusively fly GA and it gets a bit lonely up there. Would be great to get some GA traffic.
  23. Which plane and airport? Do you have any mods installed? I suspect it's a scenery or aircraft issue. The rolling cache suggestion is also a great idea.
  24. I found the smartcam lock (I think that's what it's called) to be a useful assignment. It essentialy snaps your 'head' to the nearest point of interest, which will be your nearest airport when you're coming in for landing or doing pattern work. So, when you're doing pattern work and want to look quickly glance at the airport, a quick press of this button will make you look directly at the airport, as oppposed to having to pan with you HAT switch or mouse. It's also useful when turning from base to final, since your gaze will be locked to the airport as you turn, which will make judging your turn so much easier. I've also set commands to look down at the panel and toggle the so-called 'Landing View'. And let's not forget the obligatory trim commands.
