  1. Hi Geoff, Yes, the showcase/drone camera is completely new to MSFS and had no equivalent in previous versions. The good news is you can get fantastic shots of the plane which look great; the bad news is that it has a learning curve. It's best to watch a demonstration. Here is a an overview of all the camera views. Regarding the startup, the shortcut keys are NOT the only way; you can do it completely manually as in previous versions of the sim. But cockpit interactions are a bit different. Once again, best to watch a demonstration: Since you said you've been away for a while, it's worth knowing that this sim works VERY differently than the FS2k to FSX era sims. I've noticed folks coming back from those sims often get frustrated because the sim doesn't work like they expect. But if you stick with it, the sim will reward you. Think of it this way: Windows Vista is also much different than Windows 10; the difference in the sims are equivalently different as they come from the same eras.
  2. As far as I remember, I've only had it happen in a plane. To Tim's point, I have an ultrawide monitor, so it's a slightly unusual aspect ratio. Perhaps that confuses the game occasionally...
  3. I get this problem too, but it's intermittend for me. I have had this on various airplanes, but mostly the Caravan.
  4. I once had a second drive dissapear after an OS update. Perhaps check that you can see it in Windows. (this probably isn't the problem, but just in case)
  5. Also, if you happen to be on the SU11 beta, you'll only see other player that are also on the beta. This is necesarrily fewer than on the stable version of the sim.
  6. Also Remembrance day in Canada and many of the commonwealth countries.
  7. I got the digital download version after reading that the disk version is more effort than it's worth. The disk installation takes ages because you have something like 37 DVDs to swap around and then you essentially have to redownload almost the entire thing with every update anyway (i.e. every two to four months). Hopefully they've streamlined that process by now... But I agree on the version. I got the middle version because I wanted a steam gauage 172, the Baron, and Cape Town Intl. There was no reason to buy the most expensive one - it would have been a complete waste of money for me because I wouldn't have used the extra content.
  8. Thanks for your replies everyone! Yup, I saw the Ford (and the rest of the carrier group) in the harbour - it was a sight to behold. But the artifacts I showed in this thread predates that by a few weeks. Also, I tried again with no mods, no rolling cache, no manual cache, updated drivers, DX11, and DX12. No change.
  9. If you're looking at buying new, I would consider the used market too. I know many people don't want to do that, but the used market is looking really enticing these days. Fair enough many used cards were used for mining, so you'll need to decide how risk averse you are. But I picked up my 1660 a month or two ago for about $100 US; and the 1660 is quite a bit more powerful than either a 1050Ti or a 1630. I'm sure it was mined on, but it's working perfectly fine so far.
  10. That's so strange. I wonder what's causing this. I have Global AI Ship Traffic enabled, mostly to see if it fixes the problem. Obviously it doesn't, but that's why I have more ship traffic than normal. I'm also on the SU11 beta, but it didn't change anything. But notwithwstanding GAIST, and SU11 beta, I noticed the artifacts from day 1 on a fresh installation. And I mean day 1, because I was away from the sim for several months and when I came back to it on a rebuilt PC without any mods, Halifax is the first place I visited and I noticed this. The only thing out of the ordinary is that the sim is installed at a non-default location on a seperate drive. But that shouldn't change much. I've also tried off-line caching, no difference.
  11. Glad you resolved it, Dave! That would have driven me nuts...
  12. Hi all, I'm hoping someone can see if you see the same thing. Around the harbour in Halifax, Nova Scotia, some of the moored ships show strange artifacts. This is with or without mods, and in DX11 and 12. See the screenshots below. Is anyone willing to see if you see the same thing? It's really strange. The final screenshot shows the place on the map of one of the affected ships, but there are 4 or 5 in the general harbour area the look like this, others seem normal. It's always the same ships too. Lastly, it's like the artifacts get worse the further you get (up to a point); so when you approach an affected ship, it seems to improve somewhat. Thanks!
  13. Yep, that sounds like the issue. Any other peripheral connceted to the PC? Maybe another PCI-e device, like a wifi card or something? How about disconnecting all storage devices, except the C drive... Get the system as bare-bones as possible. If that works, reconnect one-by-one and see which causes the issue. Although it now seems unlikely to be the cause, I would still at least try re-enabling hyperthreading. Although it has a small chance of working, it's a quick check.
  14. No, I meant ENable hyperthreading. Interesting about the device manager thing. I've never heard of that happening. How did you notice that? That's certainly a weird one...
  15. The first thing that stood out is that your graph shows only 8 threads, but it's a 16 thread processor. Presumably you disabled hyperthreading? Also from the graph, you can see that the main thread is on the eighth core, by looking at the nominal core usage. On that core, you can also clearly see the spikes which line up at roughly 3 second intervals. I've made a quick markup of the graph to highlight the spikes and thread usage: I don't know if your problem could be scheduling issue, because hyperthreading is disabled, but it's easy enought to test. Try the following: 1. Enable hyperthreading. If that doesn't work, 2. Completely remove your anti-virus (hail mary if the above doesn't work).
  16. Yes, resintalling the OS is quite a time investment! Have you tried, just for troubleshooting purposes at least, to completely remove the Anti-Virus? If that doesn't work, would you mind making another video? It would be helpful if it shows: 1. Task manager in the foreground 1a. Task manager on the Performance tab 1b. Task manager update speed on High (go to view-> Update Speed -> High) 1c. Showing CPU logical cores (right click on the cpu graph -> Change Graph to -> Logical Processors 2. Sim the background It would be interesting to see the CPU activity when this happens. Maybe it spikes, or maybe it dies down... we may learn something either way. Edit: Also, you are running without any mods right? I should have started with this question...
  17. That's so strange. I had a quick look through the other thread. So would I be correct in saying that you have: 1. Reinstalled Windows 2. Reinstalled the video drivers with DDU 3. Ensured XMP is enabled 4. Lowered all the graphics settings in the game 5. Enabled a frame limiter to 30 6. Checked your internet connection, which is excellent 7. Tried DX11 and DX12 8. Loaded everything onto a SSD 9. Added MSFS to anti-virus whitelist 10. Adjusted various nVidia 3D settings 11. Ensured that CPU and GPU temperatures are welll within the limits Did I miss anything in there? Also, I see you run your cpu at 3.8 GHz. Why's that? It's supposed to boost to well over 4 GHz.
  18. At the instant of the micro stutter (not so "micro"! That's a pretty mature stutter) the counter shows that the perfomance is limited by the mainthread, which implies CPU. I see you've a pretty powerful CPU, but only a low-profile cooler. What's the temperatures like on your CPU? Maybe you're bouncing against a thermal limit, causing throttling. Another idea: Have you looked at task manager while flying? Looking at what's using CPU, apart from the sim, could also be insightful...
  19. Did all the fans (presumably there are two or more) stop working? Usually if it's a fan problem, only an individual fan would quit. If all fans stopped working, then the problem is more serious and the GPU likely died. By the way, I ran MSFS on a 970 for a year or so. I thought it punched above it's weight - especially when overclocked...
  20. Hello everyone, Is anyone currently using the G36 Improvement Project mod? This mod seemingly creates a seperate aircraft in your hanger; does this mean that you can't use this aircraft on the bushtrips that use the G36? Presumably, the bush trip merely uses the default aircraft. Do I understand it correctly? That would be unfortunate, because it would be great to use the mod on the bushtrip flights. Thanks all!
  21. And also any mods that you're using, like airport, scenery, etc.
  22. What the others mentioned about the content is accurate. In terms of the flying style and locale, I'm with you - mostly. I have found the bush trips to be an engaging way to see other parts of the world. So if you feel like doing something else, give them a try. I'm almost done with Canadian Rockies trip in the Caravan.
  23. I've had issues with Steam before on other products, which left a bad taste in my mouth. So I went with MS Store and it seems perfectly adequate; but either way, it's not necesarry to overthink this. Regarding which version - I'm not a fan of spending money on stuff that I won't use. So my approach was to determine which airports and planes I want and pick the version that had them. In my case, I wanted a steam gauage 172, the Baron, and Cape Town Intl. So I bought the Deluxe. Then again, I'm budget constrained. If you have the money and it won't make a difference to you, buy whatever makes you happy.
