  1. I flew 172s and PA28s about 15 years ago. I always thought some things are easier in the real thing, and others are harder. However lining up was about the same difficulty for me. Maybe the hornet is just more difficult than a skyhawk (hehe, does that even need to be said)? Can you line up a skyhawk relatively easily?
  2. The deluxe addition also has it. I actually bought the deluxe edition to get it (and also the Baron and Cape Town Intl). Here's an article that summarizes the version differences: https://www.ign.com/articles/microsoft-flight-simulator-2020-release-date-edition-differences
  3. Thank you both for your help. What Avallillo said makes a bit more sense (with all due respect to Tim, from one Haligonian to another). As always happens, now that I want to try what Avallillo said, it works perfectly. Hopefully I just did something wrong when I tried it yesterday - I'd prefer that to a bug. Have a great week guys!
  4. Thank you Tim. You mention that ROL and PIT modes are default settings, where the AP keeps the wings level and maintains the pitch. But here's my problem: When I deactivate the AP, these modes are still active. So then I don't have free control of the aircraft. Surely that's not normal, is it? In a nutshell, I want to deactivate the AP, and get full control of the aircraft back. But I can't figure out how to do that.
  5. Hi everyone, I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here. Like the title says, I'm having trouble getting out of the ROL and PIT modes of the NXi. Typically what happens is that I set the required autopilot modes (usually A combination of NAV, ALT, FLC, VS) until I want to fly an approach. Then when I deactivate the autopilot, the PFD will still indicate that ROL and PIT modes are active. Try as I might, I can't deactivate these modes. Even after the AP and flight director is deactivated, the PFD will show that these modes are active and the aircraft will follow the ROL and PIT behaviour. I've tried this in the 172 and 208. My only mods are "We Love VFR" and an ORBX scenery pack. I doubt these have any influence in this case. Any tips appreciated. Thanks!
  6. The live snow coverage seemed to still work a week or so ago. We had a big dump in Halifax at the time, and it was present in the sim. With that said, it took the sim a minute or two to catch up. I initially thought it wasn't working and left the sim running while I stepped out; when I came back the area was covered in snow and my poor C208 was rapidly icing up.
  7. I agree that 16 GB RAM is the minimum for a reasonable experience. If possible, sell your current 8 GB and buy a 2x 8GB kit. This will ensure that both sticks are matched and will give you the best experience. I think a 970 is the realistic minimum for the sim. I have one from MSI, but any other vendor will do. Just get one that's in good condition and at a reasonable price (good luck). I actually ran it with a 770 for a month, and it was ok, but you had to turn everything down. So much so, that what you ended up with only vaguely resembled the marketing materials.
  8. I think he probably has 2 of those sticks in his system. That’s how I interpreted the thread so far, anyway. MrKny, the minimum spec for a cpu is Intel i5-4460, which means the i5-7400 will be fine. In any case, if you’re looking at that general level of performance for the GPU, the GPU itself will likely be the bottleneck. Speaking of which, the 1050Ti is below the minimum spec, which is a 770. Few people seem to realize this, probably because of Nvidia’s confusing naming convention. If I were you, I’d see if I can find a 970 somewhere if you’re on a tight budget. It’s leagues ahead of a 1050Ti. I’m using one and it’s hanging in there. Good luck!
  9. Overall I agree. The constant fixing, breaking, fixing it again cycle is getting tiresome. But...I still have wakes on my floatplanes. I just checked with the float-equipped 172. Maybe it's a problem of a specific airplane. Which one did you try?
  10. Interesting. Where did you see this? I can't find anything on the official webiste.
  11. I'm not so sure about that. I think the updates are mandatory even if you fly in offline mode. Even when launched in offline mode, the sim checks in with Microsoft upon launch and then uses no data afterwards. That's how I understand it, anyway.
  12. Well it beats the crap out of my PC, especially the GPU, and I'm reasonably happy. Do you have any particular hopes for performance? With that computer and resolution, I think you should be able to use high (a few ultra) settings and not get less than 35-40 FPS in most situations. Probably significantly more in the air.
  13. Like you said, the updates are mandatory. So you answered your own question.
  14. For what it's worth, you won't need an extra 126 GB of space. Most of the downloaded files will merely replace existing ones. However, the game will use some extra space. I'm not sure exactly how much, though.
  15. I haven't tried to update yet, but in Halifax I've always had an update stpeed of about 10 Mb/s, despite otherwise achieving an internet connection of 110 Mb/s. I've tried a few things to no avail, but have now come to just accept letting my PC run for a few hours and doing something else during that time.
  16. Right off the bat, you're forced to update to the latest version. So that's a non-starter for you. With that said, I think by far the most of us experienced a perfomance increase over the last 2 updates. Only difference is that few of us wrote about it on forums, whereas those that experienced a decrease in performance did. With that spec computer, you shouldn't see too bad performance however. I would guess that you'll be able to get about 30-35 fps with most settings on medium, a few on high, and a few on low. In high detail areas, like New York and London, you may dip down to 25 fps. What framerates did you get and what were your settings, generally?
  17. You're welcome. Here's more: If you want to go back to the FSX style, you can do that. Go to General Options -> Accessibility. Then change Cockpit Interaction System from "Lock" to "Legacy". But if you want to stick to the "Lock" mode (it has it's benefits), you can disable the large tooltips and/or value readouts by switching the following settings to Off: 1. Instrument Name Tooltips 2. Instrument Description Tooltips (Edit: Maybe I should have lead with this post, haha).
  18. It sounds like you're using the "Lock" control input; is that the case? A quick way to know is if the control you're adjusting turns blue. If you are using the Lock mode, you need to hold the right mouse button while clicking the left button. I know, I know, not very intuitive.
  19. I might be missing something, but where did you buy the Standard edition? If you bought it on the MS Store, I don't think you can change your purchase to Steam. Or did you go for the Gamepass? Out of curiousity, what is luring to you upgrade? I have the Deluxe version myself, only for the Baron, steam 172 and Cape Town International.
  20. If you want a permanent change in the default cockpit view, you can go to Options -> General Options -> Camera. Under the "Cockpit Camera" heading, you can adjust the sliders for Height, Horizontal Position and Zoom. I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned this...
  21. Are you saying that you get lower performance while doing the "Activities" than when you're doing a simple free flight? If that is what you're saying, it could be down to aircraft type.... Which airplane were you using in the activitiy and for the free flight? If, say, the activity is in a 747, but the free flight is a C152, it would make some sense. More complex aircraft need a lot more system resources than the simple ones. Also, some areas of the world can cause severe performance decreases. New York or London is very hard on any system, while Winnipeg probably wouldn't be. So give us your PC specs and also explain the which aircraft you were using and where you were flying in both in the activity and free flight.
  22. Sarcasm mode: On. Maybe some clever modder can replace the deformed hands and head with correctly formed ones? Sarcasm mode: Off.
  23. Hmmm...I had no idea this existed. Very interesting, I'll check it out. The on youtube kind of reminds me of Unreal Tournamant back in the day; certainly in terms of the dramatic and apocalyptic music and scenario... So far, it seems that most of us have a stable of planes that we regularly fly. Do most of you try to fly by the numbers and use the actual aircraft procedures (as far as practical, anyway)?
  24. Side note on your first point - I think I saw that FBW had some issues with the marketplace (licensing issues or something like that), so they discontinued support via that channel. That might explain your issue with their 320. But I think you should now download via their third party channel, presumably their website? I happened to get this info purely by coincidence, since I don't fly the airliners, but just look into it. Anyway, I love how you use the sim. I'd probably do exactly the same if I were you!
