Thanks Tigger Well, just went through some aggravating trial and error with the aircraft registration! Was trying to get ATC to say the reg number for VFR. So I put the reg number in atc_id="VH-NXB", replacing what I thought was a single space. Result was the reg number overlaying on the tail along with the painted on number on the engine. CRAP! I tried switching off the atc_id_enable=1 with a 0, but this did not have the expected result of not displaying the number and I don't know what this setting does. So I removed the reg number and the result is the Asobo number overlays on the tail "ASXGS". DOUBLE CRAP! So then I put back what I thought was a single space back into the atc_id=" " Result was the sim would lock up went I tried loading the livery. THRIPLE CRAP! As it turns out the " " is NOT a simple space but a hidden character, thankfully I found this out through a Google search. Fixed that by copying from another livery and all is well. Work around is to copy the reg number as a flight number.

In FSX/P3D you simply edit the aircraft.cfg to match the reg number on the livery (atc_id=) and your good to go. ATC correctly says the reg number verbally and in the ATC log. I'm a little confused with MSFS  You have base models and livery1 etc in the Official folder. Then you have custom liveries in the Community folder. I try to edit the aircraft.cfg atc_id= in the Community folder to match the livery, however ATC is not using the edited number. If I try to use the livery customization, still won't verbalize the reg number and only overlays the reg number on the model even when it already painted on the livery. Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I'm just now going through my custom liveries and TRYING to fix them.

Generic Aircraft in MSFS ATC
dogdish replied to tiger1962's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Thanks Tim, Great tip!!! Right now I'm using Simple Traffic (want Just Flight FS Traffic due for release Q1 2022) and that always bothered me even with real world liveries to hear "Generic" mentioned. Wondering though if MSFS SU's will over write the changes when the updating. -
Add-on linkers are really useful?
dogdish replied to danbiosca's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
As a side note, not necessary to "empty" out the folder, simply renaming it to anything other than Community (such as Community_DISABLED) hides it from the sim and is faster than physically emptying it out and repopulating again. Once updating is complete, delete the newly created empty Community folder and rename Community_DISABLED back to Community. -

Throttle no longer works on jet engines
dogdish replied to vvye's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
It would not be the first time a MSFS update has messed with user settings and I think this would be pointless to do. I had a update change my parking brake assignment and had to reassign it again. Originally I assigned it to toggle the parking brake on/off and a update changed it to set brakes. Took me a while to figure out what was going on. It might help to delete the current controller config and build up a new one rather than go to the trouble of reinstalling the whole sim. -
Something Nick from ORBX recommends doing when issues with add-on scenery... I have a 1Tb rolling cache and skip step 1 because it takes too long to rebuild a new one. Just fly in a different area. Step 2 and 3 only takes a few seconds. You can delete to Recycle Bin first as a backup, then restart to rebuild the Content.xml and .dat files. Once you restart, empty out the Recycle Bin. Step 4 is just the first time you restart (You can just rename the Community folder as Community_DISABLED or something to prevent it from being active.) Then you can add your add-ons back or rename back to Community.

Grumman Goose updated
dogdish replied to danbiosca's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Have version 0.9.9 I'm having problems with the engines shutting down when I try to throttle up. Have sim set to automixture=on BTW No other plane shuts down like this one. Is there a issue when using MSFS 1.21.18 ? -

Really annoying to keep having to resave Assistance preferences all the time, so just been flying P3D v5 instead. This should have been addressed immediately. If I install the BETA fix, will the final update remove it, or will it need to be manually removed? Also, where are we supposed to update now? Still at Microsoft Store? Xbox app? MSFS direct? The three dots in the upper right Microsoft store are no longer there and moved to the lower left. Is this where future updates moved to?

Gauge issues or not, I always waited for their once a year sales. Was surprised to see a recently released model (Piper Seneca V for MSFS) on sale for $20.00, so I bought it. Seems the MSFS Marketplace encourages sellers to compete for your dollar more than direct selling. When the Skymaster is released, I'll wait for it to go on sale as well since I all ready have the FSX model that I recycled into P3D v5.

I got all my ORBX stuff working pretty good. Only immediate issue I had was with the tower in KLAS. Had to turn Lighting Bloom to zero otherwise I got a huge black box. https://forum.orbxdirect.com/topic/211425-one-issue-with-v53-and-orbx-global-base-andor-openlc-na/ I do get a little micro stuttering, but no freezing. Just figured need to turn something down. Guess just wait for the hotfix before going to the trouble of trying anymore scenery.

I bought this for FSX (says OK with P3D 4.x) Has anybody installed this in P3D v5.x with ORBX Global Base/Vector P3Dv5/openLC North America/So Cal Region (Which also covers Las Vegas)? If so any issues? Considering FlyTampa Las Vegas if ORBX ever offers it in ORBX Central.

"Path Too Long" Error?
dogdish replied to Grover2005's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Whenever I get a "Path too long..." error, I just move the zipped file from the Download folder to the root folder (C:\) If that doesn't work, rename excessively large named zipped files to a single character (i.e., z.zip) before extracting. -
I have Traffic Global myself for same reason as finnfit, for a few bucks you get instant realistic traffic without all the downloading and time involved setting it up. Rather spend time on user models and repaints and flying. Did same with MSFS Simple Traffic for now, probably get an AI traffic program later that uses realistic models when becomes available.

I was going to try adding the above stickers using paint.net to a white factory paint, but probably need a expensive paint program I can't afford.

Carenado is slowly porting over their FSX models to be fully MSFS compatible. As of this posting, they have done 7, with the next model being the Skymaster. Who knows if they will do them all. To answer your question, there are a few mods to add FSX models to MSFS. Here's one... https://www.nexusmods.com/microsoftflightsimulator/mods/117
