  1. No issues whatsoever in updating Windows 10 to the latest 2004 version. I prefer having an updated operating system, with all the security patches. No problems running my 8 different versions of FS2004.
  2. It would be nice to have a selection, eventually of the older prop planes, such as those done by Shessi, Milton & team, & others.. Props Matter!
  3. Leo Bodnar cards are normally seen as a joystick, so, theoretically, they could be used.. Good luck!
  4. Do not fall into the dreaded analysis paralysis trap.. Mostly, it's the developers that give is the sim engine, and the add-on guys give us the bells and whistles, as have happened for all the sims so far. Since the demise of Microsoft's ACES Gaming Studio's, things have been stagnant, apart from Microsoft selling the licence to develop ESP (that's the commercial version of FSX) to Lockheed Martin for them to develop as a 'not for entertainment'product, & licensing FSX to Dovetail Games to slightly modify it & optimize it for modern computers. Having said that, there is still a very vibrant add-on market out there, both freeware & payware, for all the sims, including the 16 year old FS2004. Yes, we are all awaiting Microsoft's new Microsoft Flight Simulator that's due for release on 18 August 2020. However.... always an However... It is said that this sim will be resource hungry, for computer hardware, and internet bandwith. So we are waiting to see what early adopters will have to say. Interesting times indeed. The search for the Holy Grail in simming goes on.. Also, for fun, have a look at the freeware FlightGear. It's bveing constantly updated & has a huge range of aircraft. Scenery is actually very good, & the sim, being free, is worthy of a look. https://www.flightgear.org/
  5. Hi Andy, If you rename the folder as well as the FS9.exe of the second install, you will not have any interaction between the separate installs. As long as they are uniquely named. I have 8 separate installs of FS9, uniquely named with no interference between them at all. I also have a backup of a clean install, on a portable drive as well. Have fun, Regards, Robin
  6. LOL, it most certainly will.. Many years ago, I actually found an 'unclothed' male & female 'plane'. Quite fun actually, the animations when the male's gear is dropped.. Seriously!! PM me for a copy..
  7. In the Uires folder, there should be a dlgsplash & a dlgsplashins The dlgsplashins is somehow activated. Maybe it has somehow been renamed to dlgslash. If so, & the original dlg is still there, Just rename the active one, then the non marked one to dlgsplash.
  8. Why not wait a month? Nothing will work before the launch, & there will be a lot more clarity as time goes by. Dunno what the rush is..
  9. What you can also do is to add a 2nd USB keyboard. What we did was to remap the keys using FSUIPC, group the keys & print little colored labels for them. Also turning the keyboard from landscape to portrait view. I dont have a picture, but if can imagine an extended version of Chuck's idea. It becomes quite immersive having labeled aircraft keys. I can give a helping hand, if needed.
  10. Best to wait & see how successful guys are with their existing hardware.. No rush.. a couple of days of waiting could be worthwhile.
  11. Correct, Steve, it has to bve registered to play. You have to have a Microsoft account.
  12. The convenience of a single source could be a lot better & maybe safer than trying to feed 10 DVDs, & a lot of PCs do not have DVDs any more. Would not the digital signature, if modded, be picked up by Microsoft when installing & updating? Anyway.. The 'hard copy'version is for Europe only, in Standard Mode at this stage. Updates, after install, will still have to be done. Interesting times indeed.
  13. Why pre-order? Is there any cost benefit, or any other benefit? How much of the about 90GB+ is downloaded with the pre-order? Apart from the desktop icon, what else is download, any manuals, info?
  14. Are red apples better than green apples? Different ideas.. Is Chrome better than Edge vs Firefox?
  15. You would install from all the DVDs then the game will go online to update itself. Hopefully, all 10 DVDs will load without issues. Why they dont do a USB stick instead of DVDs, I dont know.
  16. MSFS uses Bing, not Google for scenery, & it is going to be interesting to see. If I may, sorry to ask, but why do you call the new sim FS2020? I thought it is called Microsoft Flight Simulator, (MSFS), 3 versions, Standard, Deluxe & Premier. Can I quote what Mathijs Kok, from Aerosoft, who will be distributing the DVD package has to say.. "Let me explain what the boxed version actually contains. Microsoft Flight SImulator (that's the name, not FS2020) contains four major parts (Note the sizes are estimates from what we know at this moment.) The simulator code itself (the 'sim') that is pretty small in size, this is a mandatory part of the sim. The world and aircraft delivered by Microsoft, (that content depends on the version (the 'content') that is around 90 GB, this is a mandatory part of the sim. Optional online streamed content (this is an optional part of the sim) 3rd party files (clearly fully optional) Our DVD's contains 'all' of part 2, apart from the updates Microsoft and Asobo do between the moment the the DVD's are pressed and release. When you install, the sim will updates all files immediately form the servers and you will get the very latest code for the simulator itself and all content is updated. This is very much a simulator that depends on the cloud if you want to use it to its full potential. So the boxed version makes it possible for people on a slower internet connection to get the sim installed without downloading the 'content'. So the simulator is in every way, 100% the same. The boxed retail version just gets you a nice box, printed manual and about 90 Gb you do not have to download. There is no difference between boxed retail and the version MS sells directly. " Maybe use the name that the developers & distributors, as well as MS are using? Avoids confusion that way..
  17. From Aerosoft's Mathijs Kok .. (as you know, they will be marketing the boxed version of Microsoft Flight Simulator).. Let me explain what the boxed version actually contains. Microsoft Flight SImulator (that's the name, not FS2020) contains four major parts (Note the sizes are estimates from what we know at this moment.) The simulator code itself (the 'sim') that is around 15 MB, this is a mandatory part of the sim. 18. Click 'File Library' at the top of the page Type 'Winnipeg' in the Search for text box Download the first entry on the list that pops up. The scenery includes static aircraft, an extensive array of ground support equipment representative of types and operators at CYWG, vibrant night lighting and seasonal texture variations. CYWG Winnipeg 2020 is a very detailed scenery best run on a higher-end PC. To make the airport more flyable for a greater range of FS2004 users, CYWG Winnipeg comes packaged with options for three editions and ability to turn certain features on and off. By Gregory Putz.
  19. Obviously a PC version from a store called Xbox Game Pass will come before a console version for Xbox. Tim, the pictures & video clips that, I'm sure that you have seen, is from a PC version. If you have not seen these, please have a look for them.. (Google is your friend)
  20. Tim, I thought a PC version will run on a PC, available from the Xbox store, & the Xbox version will run on an Xbox. That's what I imagine a PC version would be.. a version of Microsoft Flight Simulator that will run on a PC.
  21. You are aware that the Aussie price is for the Xbox version, that will be released after the PC version, & is a 'gap filler' price. That means that if you order it, for Xbox, you will get it at some unspecified date, and at a price that could be less, or more than that displayed. It should be obvious to all that no pricing has been released as yet, nor a release date for Xbox.. And the format for Xbox is??
  22. They are releasing on Xbox as well, 60million plus users per month. Where on earth did the 200 come from? It will be an Xbox game, with suitable pricing.. $60 has been suggested, not confirmed.
