  4. FS2004 Adventure--1934 Brisfit to Baghdad

FS2004 Adventure--1934 Brisfit to Baghdad. The idea for this real-life flight came from the pages of the October 2007 edition of "Aeroplane Monthly', a magazine which has been the source of inspiration for a couple of flights. In this one, two university undergraduates - one the pilot, the other a friend who wanted to go to Iraq to see his parents - fly an old Bristol Fighter from England to Baghdad via France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Syria and then return via Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Italy and France. The 'Brisfit' they bought for 100 pounds. Built in 1918, it had been declared surplus by the Air ministry in 1924 and was registered G-ABYE. The journey began on August 10th, 1934 and they returned on September 17th. By Bruce Kennewell.

  8. FS2004 Adventure--20000 Miles In A Flying Boat

FS2004 Adventure--20,000 Miles In A Flying Boat. Note: this file contains a brief introduction only; the actual adventure requires visiting a web site as describe in the enclosed docs. In 1927, Sir Alan Cobham, pioneer of aerial refuelling and adventuring aviator, undertook a survey flight around Africa. He was accompanied by his wife, Gladys, and four crewmen. The aircraft was a Short S.5 Singapore MkI, a twin-engined, single-fin, open cockpit version of the later four-engine, triple-finned, closed-cockpit Singapore MkIII which entered RAF service. There was only ever one MkI and when Cobham completed his journey it was returned to the Air Ministry, who had loaned it to Sir Alan. The adventurers departed Rochester, on the River Medway, in the morning of 17th. November 1927 and returned in May of 1928, after a trip of over 20,000 air miles and one which involved numerous trials and tribulations, delays and frustrations. Remember... no navaids or comms! 11. FS2004 "Glacier Girl" To Duxford

FS2004 "Glacier Girl" To Duxford, June 2007. This package represents the proposed route and timetable to be flown by P-38 "Glacier Girl" and P-51 "Miss Velma" on their trip to the United Kingdom in June 2007. Both aircraft were to appear at the Flying Legends Air Show at Duxford on the weekend of 7th - 8th. July 2007, with "Miss Velma" remaining in Britain with her new owners. The story behind "Glacier Girl" is well known to most warbird enthusiasts: how she was resurrected from the Greenland ice cap where she had been embedded since the original delivery flight (six P-38's and a B-17) went amiss in July 1942. (The project name 'Bolero' was given to those delivery flights from the USA to Britain in WW2). So this trip - 'Bolero 2' - was to see the P-38 finally complete its delivery flight some 65 years after it left the USA. However, "Glacier Girl" suffered a major engine problem and whilst "Miss Velma" went on alone, the P-38 had to remain behind in the USA and never made it to the Duxford Air Show. By Bruce Kennewell.
