  1. Good question, something to ask the admins here. I don't focus on payware so I don't find this an issue.
  2. Excellent advice. Planning your approach well in advance of an arrival is key to a safe and stress free cockpit. Sim aircraft do not model well the real world dynamics of near/trans-Mach airflow, other than some buffeting a speed warnings. What many are not aware of is the high speed considerations of rotorcraft. The two most common issues are the advancing blade acceding Mach (the LOUD popping sound of a Huey in a tight higher G turn), and retreating blade stall. Think of the speed of the rotor tip as it turns on the ground, and then add forward airspeed. You can easily reach Mach at the blade tip with high speeds or increased loads. As the rotorcraft approaches VNE (speed never exceed) the retreating blade, since it is moving away from the airflow, can stall (remember a rotor blade IS an airfoil). This generates buffet, immediate loss of lift, and for single rotor aircraft a rapid roll into the stalled side. So much going on out there that we can't see. And remember, flying takes skill, hovering takes finesse. Happy simming!
  3. Good points zippy, especially on the report button. Keeping the forums focused and helpful is best.
  4. I attempted to download scenery from several sections, FXX, 2004, etc., and they all worked. For me, I look at all the sites as not just competition, but also as companion sites to the betterment of the sim flying community, There are those who prefer one over another, and within each of the sim sites I find various articles and downloads that may not be on another. My preference is for FlightSim, but I also visit the other sites periodically to see what's happening across our sim community.
  5. The home page has "Recent Uploads," "Latest Posts." and lists of all the forums with their most recent comment date. I find this easy to use since I scroll to the forum topics of interest with ease.
  6. Thank you airernie, a very helpful reply. I'll be adding more ai aircraft now. BTW, for those who wish to hone their formation flying skills, flying with ai aircraft is a great way to practice.
  7. I see many aircraft and ai files available that state both FSX and 2004. What has been the experience from FSX flyers out there when using these items? My experience has only been with flyable aircraft, and I'm estimating 6 out of 10 don't work properly due to gauges not working in FSX. Anyone care to share their success in ensuring these 2004 to FSX items work in FSX? Tom Gibson has been uploading a wonderful set of classic aircraft/ai, but I hesitate if these may not work properly in FSX. Thanks
  8. Semper Fi Michael. HMM-161 and plank holder with HMM-166. I'll send a PM and test that system for Adrian

  10. These screenshots definitely capture the right feel. Nicely done!
  11. Which aircraft, or is this happening with several for you? I am using FSX and never heard of this issue, so your post intrigued me.
  12. First, vortex ring state has been a significant problem, most likely due to low mass-high speed-small diameter rotors having to generate large downward airflow to support such a large aircraft. Easy to recirculate the flow and create a vortex ring. Second, power is transferred from one engine/nacelle to the other in the case of a power failure with sprag clutches and synchronization shafts. Think of the V-22 as an H-46 or H-47 flying sideways. After seeing the XV-15 in the 1970's at MCAS Tustin, I asked the Boeing engineer what would happen if the sprag failed. His response, which is the wrong answer to a pilot was, 'It can't happen." On 20 July 1992, pre-production V-22 #4's right engine failed and caused the aircraft to drop into the Potomac River near MCB Quantico with an audience of Department of Defense and industry officials. Flammable liquids collected in the right nacelle and led to an engine fire and subsequent failure. All seven on board were killed. The power did not transfer, in part, due to melting of the sprag clutch.
  13. The V-22 has never been approved for full production, only short series production runs. Search "V-22 Issues" and you will find many detailed article chronicling the myriad problems with the V-22. The BV-347 was proposed, but it was politically easier to get an "airplane that hovers" than a "helicopter that is fast." Too many service members lost to an aircraft that was built for one reason, work out the kinks so that the civilian version will be safe.

Presented here is a repaint of another true classic, in both real and sim flying. This version represents CH-46D BuNo 154030 that was assigned to the US Marine Corps squadron HMM-161 "Grayhawk" based at MCAS Tustin California during the 1980's. Repaint is based upon my personal records of this aircraft, that I flew while assigned to HMM-161 in 1980-1981. You will need fsx_boeing_ch46_updated. 15. Michael, I'd expect nothing less from H-46 drivers! Phrogs Phorever.
  16. Just a little feedback on a couple of the processes, uploading files and user profile. The new format allows for much easier and intuitive uploading, and you can make updates even after it had been uploaded. Also, updating your profile, and tracking your own activities has also been made easier to use. Additionally, I find sorting who's online by "Logged In" gives you a list without the guests. These are tremendous improvements.

This is a repaint of a true classic, in both real and sim flying. This is the 1st in a serious of repaints for countries that flew the North American T-28 in their military. This version represents T-28C BuNo 140481 that was assigned to the US Navy training squadron VT-6 based at NAS Whiting Field in Milton Florida during the 1970's. In addition to the aircraft, pilots have been modified. The front pilot represents a Marine Corps student (Camo helmet) with a USN instructor in the aft seat. Also, the flight suit has been modified to have the pencil pocket on the correct (left) sleeve, and the VT-6 patch is on the right sleeve of both pilots. They also are clean shaven, no beard, to maintain uniform appearance requirements of the time. Repaint is based upon an actual aircraft (https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/North-American-T-28C-Trojan/1929944) Repaint by PhrogPhlyer FSX North American T-28C Trojan - VT-6 - Repaint
  18. Thanks Adrian for the quick response. As for the web update, I think everyone needs to just have a little patience, and let all the changes get implemented. Then see what they like and don't and give "constructive" suggestions. I hope to see less criticizing of peoples efforts and more assistance and suggestions. Happy simming to all!
  19. I am taking JSMR's and Dominic's comments to heart and also giving this a chance. I've already asked for an upload to be moved to my account to see how that works. Change is hard for everyone, especially old salts like me. Looking forward to the dust settling and getting back to what this is all about, Having Fun and Sharing our appreciation of sim flying.
  20. Steve, I'm at the same point as you, looking for a basic step by step to get started with some simple scenery. I'd be happy to understand how to add the existing objects in library. I'm watching closely for any responses here. Been creating some repaints which I'll upload soon. Now want to add to local airports, etc. PhrogPhlyer 1 mile SE of N87
  21. After many format saves, I finally got the file working by saving as a DXT5 BMP. I'll be uploading the repaint in a few days.
  22. Looking for some assistance with a repaint I'm doing of Tim Conrad's T-28C (updated by Bob Chicillo). I created a repaint of the exterior that works with no issues in FSX. However, the repaint of the interior/aircrew shows up as a pixelated color smear across all faces of the model it is associated with. It is not all black, but looks almost like a multi-color camo. The original and modified BMP files appear to be of same size and properties. Any suggestions? Thanks, PhrogPhlyer
  23. A truly amazing scenery set. Day or night, this is a wonderful visual addition to flying in my local area. The fireworks a incredible, from watching the the shots leave the ground and then bursting above (flying really low and slow). This is another MUST for flying in central New Jersey.
  24. This brings to life memories of my youth, with USN blimps along the NJ beaches, along with many visits to the heart of LTA history in the US. Although built for FS2004, this loaded and works perfectly in FSX. Many flights await for me here, as well as Cardington and Sunnydale.
  25. I have been hanging around Robbinsville airport since I was 10 years old. This scenery set is near perfect for the airfield as it is today. This is a must for anyone who fly's around virtual central NJ. And if you prefer IFR, this also enhances your ability to identify the airport when nearing the MAP on the approaches, especially to Rwy 29. SkyVector has everything you need for VFR or IFR charts. https://skyvector.com/airport/N87/Trenton-Robbinsville-Airport One of the best scenery additions I've used.
