  1. The USS Macon and her sister ship the USS Akron were the pinnacle of US lighter than air technology in the early 1930's. Here she is sailing through the ocean of air on a smooth moon filled night.
  2. I have always loved this photo, imagining that our USN liaison was living a life similar to what we saw in the film Casa Blanca. Spies and intrigue abound. Here is my FSX recreation of this moment in 1944.
  3. T/O not R/O, oh well, typing is not my best skill set.
  4. Thanks Bill. Not a ramp R/O but an unauthorized low flyby of the ramp to wake up the fast movers. And its "Phrog" as in "Frog" as we called our beloved H-46's. Looking forward to sparring with memories as we move forward in this great forum of FlightSim.
  5. THE END OF AN ERA. Reminiscing to my youth, when you’d get excited with a glimpse of one of these hangars through the trees driving through the New Jersey pine barrens. All the kids waving to the Navy blimps as they cruised past the beaches Seaside Park, Point Pleasant, and others. Then having a retired Navy Cmdr. and blimp pilot/CO as a teacher while in High School. Lighter than air will always be a part of my love for aviation. This FSX screenshot is at NAS Lakehurst (now part of JBMDL Joint Base McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst). The scenery is FS2004 Scenery--Lakehurst NJ (Knelvera.zip) by Ray Lunning. While flying FSX Goodyear K-28 Navy Blimp (goodyeark-28.zip) by George Diemer.
  6. Thank you, happy that you enjoyed them.
  7. So glad you posted this. I have had the ACOF F2004 metal box on the shelf since I switched to FSX. But there are so many old 2004 aircraft files on a thumb-drive waiting to fly again. I'm goin to use this method to load FS2004 and share flying time between the two versions. THANK YOU!
  8. The year is 1979, the place is NAS Whiting Field (south). Finally get to solo a helicopter, a Bell TH-57. Beautiful Florida morning, cleared to taxi, take off, then a short hop over to NOLF Spencer to practice autorotation, cut gun, HIGE, HOGE, and precision hover/taxi, working the ground boxes (hover maneuvering patterns of turns and taxi around a painted 50 ft. square on the ground). I highly recommend this FSX aircraft to learn to hover/hover taxi. Take it slow and handle the controls with finesse. Used the TH-57 repaint for the base Bell 206 th57fsx.zip by Andrew L. J. Ford, and the FSX Scenery--NAS Whiting Field North And South scenery package knse_kndz.zip by Jim Dhaenens.
  9. Osmany, Have you tried searching "Cuba" in the FSX downloads? I found 10 jetliners are there related to Cuba. Happy searching.
  10. Note that entering https://fightsim.com redirects you to the new site https://forums.flightsim.com.
  11. I search by: A) Clicking the "Popular Downloads" tab, then B) Clicking "Download Portal" or the more specific folder, then C) Putting my search word(s) in the Search box directly under the tabs at top. I hope this helps.
  12. Thanks Nels for the update. Slow and steady wins the race (and in this case the best flight sim site and community on the web).
  13. For those who have "been there, done that" this brings back some dark tense memories. Looks like a cross wind also... phew! Well done.
  14. Well stated Inuss. We have an amazing group with experience real and sim that can be shared with all. I learn something everyday here. And yes, welcome to Windy and all the new users. Also, hello to all the sage long term members I've not yet interacted with.
  15. All these years flying and never knew this simple relationship. Thanks!
  16. I just asked same question in original tread concerning new site. One answer either here or there will work. This is coming together nicely, really liking the new format. Thx.
  17. I may not be seeing where/how, but can the aircraft download files be searched buy complete aircraft vs repaints? Thanks.
  18. Excellent re-creation and explanation. This incident has been the shining example of the principle of know where The Other Plane is. If now absolutely sure,,,, stop, ask, ask, and ask again.
  19. Love the design of their hangars. The whole environment of this field is so well done.
  20. Bill, Got your "100 missions over the s--t river bridge" patch? Cubi Point and Olongapo, San Magoo's and balut. Damm, I so miss the P.I. Fighter bar from the Cubi O'club was removed and rebuilt at the Naval Air Museum in P'Cola.
  21. Close air support. Never forget that we exist for one reason, to support the Marine on the ground. F4U supporting Marines landing on an Iwo Jima beach, Note this is later in the campaign as you can see the 2nd & famous large flag flying on Mt. Suribachi. This is A.F.Scrub's F4U (corsair_f4u1a.zip) with the FSX Scenery--Iwo Jima Scenery 1945 Update by Tom Stovall (iwojima1945sceneryupdt).
  22. I am really liking the single click on the Activity (bullhorn) icon on the top right. I review the list of all activities across the forums. Allowing me to appreciate the breath and scope of the full MSFS world. This site gets better and better the more you try all the features.
