  1. I was setting and thinking about my old log book. I think no one really kept track of the number of landings one might have made except in the remarks section. Like "I made 6 touch and goes today" or " I touch down at 4 airports today". No one kept a running tally. I still say that a landing is a landing and even God can't change that. So If you are going to keep track of them, count them all.
  2. And here I thought the only thing I had to do was to get the airplane down to the ground without killing myself. I think I will try to find some guy from Mars and have him teleport me back to the barnstorming days.
  3. Enid, Oklahoma is the home of Vance AFB. They train young men to be pilots. I have lived in Enid all my life.(sort of). I have spent a hell of a long time watching those young men do touch and goes. I know their landing patterns by the back of my hand. I even have some great flying stories out of Vance, for another time. Ringwood airport is just 3 or 4 miles east of Vance. The pilots do a lot of touch and goes at the Base and a lot of the time they will include Ringwood in their training. I also do a lot of touch and goes at those two places. Now that I am running FS 20 I noticed something strange with the logbook. One I day I did about 8 or 10 touch and goes at Vance and it was the first time I got around at looking at my logbook. There is a column for Take offs and one for landing. I got credit for only 1 landing. I know for a fact I did a bunch more than that. After thinking about it I decided a change in tactics was in order. This time I would take off from Vance and go to Ringwood and do a touch and go there and fly back to Vance and do a touch there and repeat the cycle for a few times. I made 3 complete circles and this time I got credit for 6 landings. The point is the fact that there is a column there that says Number of landings. It doesn't ask where the landings took place. I have over 500 hours in a 172 back in the 80's and I can't recall how I treated touch and goes. (my X has my logbook locked up somewhere) If you are going to log the number of landings then lets be accurate. Other wise forget it. There is something going on with the column Number of Take Offs but I haven't given it much thought. VFRguy
  4. On my computer, the only thing below C:\Users is 3folders , 15807, Default, and Public.
  5. I wonder why that Tec guy created that folder where he did. It was obvious that he was very smart. He would not have put it there just for kicks.
  6. A SCARY STORY for all you smart guys and a word of caution for dumb ass guys like me. Back in March I put in a order for the disc version of the Premium Deluxe MS Flight Simulator from EBAY. It took 3 weeks to get here. It came from London. It has 10 disks in a nice package and a book. It took 6 hours to load. When I fired it up it told me to insert disk 1. I did that and the program started just fine. I saw all the wonderful things it could do. Just one problem, that dam disk number 1. It got under my skin every time I wanted to fly. I couldn't get it out of my mind. I hated that thing. I got to looking into the difference between the 3 versions. I wasn't into any of the new planes. The enhanced airports was nice and that was about it. I could not get that disk number 1 out of my mind. So I thought what if I bought the standard version on line and see if I could live without the nice airports. So I uninstalled the deluxe and I downloaded the standard figuring that if I really wanted all the extra stuff I would buy the premium online. That is what I did. Now that disk number 1 is nothing but a bad memory. The story will now start. It took 18 hours to download the standard version (at that time) something like 180 Gigs. A pain in the you know what but I survived. I fired it up and I lived happy ever after. For 3 or 4 weeks. Them came update number 1.16.2.0. I think it was 80 Gigs. My computer takes one hour to download 10 Gigs. The mother of all bombs hit just after the download was finished. The flight program would not load, Xbox would not work and the computer would freeze up. I spent the rest of the day crying my self to sleep. The sleep lasted about two hours. I was about ready to jump off a cliff when I got in touch of the Microsoft support line. I explained the problem and the Tec. went to work. It was very hard to understand the Tec. As she came from a far off place. She spent some time consulting with some one and finally they came to the conclusion that I need to reinstall the program (bummer). I didn't like it but I would do as told. This part is really fuzzy so I will just say that nothing worked and they had to call in their big gun. This kind soft spoken gentleman was a life saver. This guy knew exactly what he was doing. He would look at a lot of files, delete some, add some, add folders and do a bunch of things at speeds that made me dizzy. After a long while he told me that every thing will be OK and I could go ahead and reload the program. I ask him if I would loose my personal stuff like config files and he so no. You should see this guy work. I that no way could every thing be OK. I was wrong and every thing worked. I am happy now. All this brings me to the point that I wanted to make. Before all this stuff happened I read about this (Just drop it into your Community folder) thing. I tried to find it but I couldn't. While this guy was fixing my I notice that he was adding a folder at C:FLIGHT SIMULATOR/COMMUNITY. He left it empty and it is still empty. Is that all I have to do is just drop my file in there and every thing will work? I am noted for getting myself in trouble by fiddling around with stuff that I know nothing about. VFRguy
  7. Thanks a lot for the info and a special thanks to Johnny John John John John, AKA Mars guy. I will look into that Washington file but first I have to learn how to install it.
  8. I now will only post a shorten list of things that I miss from FS10. The first that I think about is the VFR MAP. In FS 10 you could do a lot more things than the one we now have. You could pick up and place your plane any where you please and place it any direction. You could get rid of any or all of the items that you deem clutter. You could see the path that your plane took. If you wanted you could zoom out a lot farther than the new one. The city's all had names which was great for dorks like me. I remember one time when I placed my Baron 130,000 feet. The engine died and it went wild until it got down to a lower altitude. Pretty cool. It is too bad the new map can't do these things. I miss it. It seems that sometime people makes things more complicated than need be. That is probability not true but we are talking about computers and all the lovely things you can do with them. If they can do so much then how about using some of that computer power to make things a little more simple for us. Half the time I have no idea what they are talking about. I think they could do it if they were not so lazy. I need to get back on track. In FS 10 you could move around easier than today. Like in FS 2010 when you start down a path you are locked in and the only way out to start all over from the start. For example, several times when I build a flight I forget about the time and end up starting a flight in the middle of the night when I really wanted it to be high noon.. To correct it I have to go to the runways to build a new flight. (unless I don't know how to build a flight) In FS 10 all I had to do was pull up the time and just like that my problem was solved. That is all for now. I have to fly over to Paris and try for the umpteen time try to fly under that tall tower over there. Just one more thing. FS 2010 is my flight sim of choice and I don't want to complain about it too much. FS 10 has had plenty of time to iron out the kinks. It's time has come and is time to move on. More to come later. 9. I hear your words of wisdom and I will abide by your suggestions. I like this place and I expect to learn a few things. I will try to be friendly toward any being from mars and abide by earthly rules.
  10. I have a list of some things that I miss from FS 10. There is quite a few. I am reluctant to post it here for fear of being labeled "useless" or the FORUM COPS mite get on my case. I will think about it for a while while I head off for my eye exam. Perhaps that is what is wrong with me FS 10 was a good program and they should have saved a few things from it.
  11. I made a mistake. This time I timed it twice. Old way is 2min 55 sec. 1. new way is 1 min 55 sec. 2. new way is 1 min 42 sec. I have the "checking for update" option turned on. If I turned it off it would shave off another 20 sec. No further comments.
  12. I timed it. Old way was 2min 24 sec. The new icon way was 2min 8 sec. (C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightS imulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App "-FastLaunc) Not much of a saving. At least on my computer.
  13. It's hard to believe that I am the cause of the Washington monument looking like a tall skinny square apt building. I have tweaked with that photogrmmy thing as well a bunch of other stuff and it still looks like ##$@**$$. All I am trying to say is that if they can make really nice looking structures that any computer can handle and a low life novice like me can handle then they could treat old George with a little respect. As far as that remark " Useless post. Don't know what its doing in the MSFS forum" goes, perhaps I should have posted on some other forum. I don't know. I'm just going to shrug it off and say "That is what one can expect from a Pompous man from Mars.
  14. Well, I guess I have to give up on having an audible warning when I turn on the autopilot on two of my planes (Baron 58)and(Bonanza). I was taught to stop bellyaching about stuff I don't have and concentrate on things I have. With that in mind, I took the Baron out for a spin. We took off from LBJ 31R headed west. We did 5 or 6 touch and goes and just took in the sights. I played around with the autopilot and got used to the silence. I forgive the guy who forgot to add the warning sound and things wasn't that bad. Also, today, I sent the big guy at flightsim.com an E mail and ask if there was a way to change my name. He replayed with a yes but he would have to do it. So I ask him to change my name to VFRguy. That was something I wanted to do for a while but could not find away to do it. That guy was willing to change it for me. THANKS That name kind of fits my style. I like to fly around at 1000 to 5000 AGL and do some touch and goes and see the sights. I did take the DA 62 up to see how high it would go. Above 20 000 it got hard to fly. At around 23 000 I could not keep it from stalling. There is a whole bunch of stuff that I don't understand about Flying so for now I like to keep things simple. VFRguy
  15. I have already been that route. (the Z thing) If you fire up the Baron 58 you should see (hear) what I mean.
  16. George is getting restless. I refuse to fly into Washington DC until they fix his monument. That'll show them.
  17. Arggg...That wasn't the answer that I wanted to get. I shy away from the big guys as well as the slower small guys. That pretty much leaves the DA 62 (I really like this one), the Baron and the Bonanza. In FS 10 I flew the baron 58, 95 % of the time. I felt like I owned that plane. It really is a pain in the rear to not have some sort of audio Que when the autopilot is turned on. The silent autopilot is making me shy away from stepping back into my beloved Baron.
  18. When I fly the DA 62 and I turn on the autopilot a voice comes on and says “Engaging Autopilot” and when I turn it off I hear a chimes sound. When I fly the Baron or the Bonanza and turn on the autopilot I near nothing. I can't find anything that allows me turn on the voice. It seems that I should be allowed to turn on the voice since all 3 planes have Garmin. Can someone help me out? I need to hear that voice.
  19. When saving a flight, you get two files. (.FLT) & (.PLN) The only difference between the two that I can find is that they swap ends of the runway for take off. I am convinced that is not the only difference. Can someone explain?
  20. The Diamond DA62 is just about the only thing I fly. I love it. I could not find the file. Can you help me with this? In FSX I flew the Baron 58 and loved it also, but not in FS20. Am I the only one on this planet that thinks the person that built the Washington monument in FS20 should spend some time in jail? I have only the standard version of FS but fly down to Panama and look at the beautiful buildings there. How hard would it be for one of those guys to take over that idiot and give old George the respect that he deserves? I am a fair weather pilot with little experience who has lots of fun just flying around in my Diamond DA62. I think that the update file would help me out a lot. THANKS
