  1. Anotherway of locating the community folder:

While running MSFS 2020 do the following:

    Go to Options / General

Click on "Developers" which you will find at the bottom of the list on the left

    Switch Developers Mode on

On the Dev Menu select Tools / Virtual File System

The community folder location can be found under "Watched Bases"

Of course, unless you have already added or installed some addons, the folder will be empty. Which planes are you wanting you add? Also, which edition of the sim do you have.. MS Store download… Steam.. or the 10 DVD boxed edition? Some say that the DVD installation doesn’t have a community folder.

  2. Hi Sid,

I’m sure you will have noticed that MSFS2020 is completely different to all the previous sims. This includes how addons are… well, added.

Which aircraft are you trying to add? I’m assuming you have downloaded some from a site such as flightsim.to ? If you are adding aircraft from the sim’s own built in “marketplace” then it will install them for you. Most planes from other sites simply need to be placed in the community folder. This is usually in the location as mentioned in the posts above, but in my case the community folder is simply D:\MSFS\Community because that’s where I installed MSFS.

I presume you installed it in its default location, or did you change the location like myself?

Have you tried simply doing a search for “Community”? Make sure windows is set to “show hidden files” ( as per Tim’s instructions above) and enter community in the search bar of windows explorer. It may take a few moments but should hopefully find it.

  3. Hi Ken,

If it was me, then I would probably do a reinstall even though it’d take time. I’ve done it enough times already previously.

When you reinstall (MS Store) it will give you the latest, updated edition. However, extra things like world updates will still need reinstalling too should you want them. If you bought / downloaded additional things via the sim’s own marketplace then they too would need reinstalling.

As for external addons.. they too may need reinstalling, but many freeware addons are simply placed into your community folder. I would copy your community folder first ( or it’s contents) and put them back after the installation. Or you could rename the folder to..say community1 or something then rename it back after the installation.

  4. Hi,

I presume your G drive is still labelled as “G”? (I’ve had the occasional issues in the past with drives being reassigned a different letter)

As for flight sim target not showing a drive letter.. mine is the same. I have just updated my Win 11 to the very latest edition, so maybe they’ve made it so you can’t see the actual location anymore. I’m sure mine showed “C:/… etc” previously.

Don’t know if any of these posts will help, but you might want to take a look..

  5. Just to confirm…. you have tried calibrating it with the Windows JOY.CPL ? (Not within flight sim)

If not, press the windows key and type joy.cpl. - the calibration box should pop up. From there you can select the yoke and follow the instructions.

If this doesn’t work…. maybe unplug the yoke and try a different USB socket.

Is the yoke still under warranty? If not… as a last resort, there is a secret calibration menu within the yoke itself. I’ve never tried it myself but there are plenty of clips on YouTube explaining how to do it.

You have to press the switches in a certain way to activate it. But as I say.. last resort

  6. I was ready to install it at 4pm.. but my the MS Store wasn’t behaving. Probably my own fault. Two or three weeks ago I decided to do a full reinstall.. Win 11.. MSFS..everything, only the MS Store didn’t seem quite right. I had obviously done something wrong.

So.. I have just reinstalled Windows again! Only Win 10 so far, but I shall take my time with all the updates.. then install MSFS when ready. It’s my weekend now so I’ve got a day or two :)

  7. You live in the UK. Just make sure live weather is on and you should see some rain :)

Joking aside.. assuming your not using live weather, are you simply moving the precipitation slider?

if so you want to select rain (or storm) from the drop-down menu. You can then adjust the precipitation to make it heavier or lighter

    Hope this helps

  8. I find it annoying not being able to access ATC commands.

You should still be able to get the ATC in VR (I do, although I don’t use it much)

If the problem is that you can’t get the toolbar to appear, then you need to assign a key so that it does. On mine for instance, I press the spacebar for the toolbar, which is easy to find when I’ve got the headset on.

  9. I didn't realize that! I came back to FS2020 after a few years break from simming. When I saw the join date of Mar 2005 I was mystified as I thought that I had been a member for longer than that. I just shrugged my shoulders and told myself that it was just another memory lapse, but it wasn't. I feel so much better. :-)

Same here! I also thought I had been a member prior to March 2005 but presumed I was wrong LOL :)
