  1. Nice download, BUT, comes with issues! Fuel is way off, and several tweeks thruout were needed in order for me to get a nice flying "Big Bird" I was at an advantage, as I had another A380 Project Airbus that I could us as a baseline comparison in getting this aircraft to perform properly.

    If you download and fly as presented, you will soon see at takeoff climb (AP engaged climbout), the aircraft will want to return to earth, and at a very fast descent. In the FSX main aircraft menu, you can pull up Weight and Balance info, to see that fuel is over, if I remember correctly, about 175,000 lbs.!

    If you should have problems, send me a Private Message and I can give you a few of my tweeks that helped in getting the bird to fly the way it was meant to be!

    Enjoy! Rick

  2. This turned out to be a very nice repaint. Some things you need to know and which the developer addresses this, but here it is made simple:

    1) I created a texture folder "texture.moonbeam" in my P-51 aircraft folder. The developer gives you 5 files for this folder which are appropriate to the McSwine aircraft. Once you have unzipped the download, identify the 5 files, and then copy and paste these to your newly created texture folder.

    2) Open any of your existing textures from previous downloads. You will see that there are many files that need to be copied over to the texture.moonbeam file. I selected all the files from a previous texture and copied and pasted them to the texture.moonbeam folder. When prompted that files exist, respond "do not copy", as these are the 5 files that the developer has already given you.

    3) Open the texture.moonbeam file and locate the thumbnail that got copied over from your previous aircraft and delete it. Now, create a new thumbnail, using one of the 2 JPEG's the developer gave you OR create your own pic!

    4) And, that should do it! I like this repaint, and it got added to 7 other P-51's, now making the count

    "8!" Enjoy, the download! It's a "keeper!"

  3. Okay, couple more items:

    1) aircraft.cfg is missing a [flight_tuning] section. I copied and pasted one from another download. All entries are

    1.00.

    2) Aircraft wants to pull to the right side of the runway and then some! It's not your joystick causing it. Check out the [GeneralEngineData] section of the aircraft.cfg file. On the line entry for engine.3, it reads:

    engine.3=8.50, 26.50, 0.2 it should read engine.3=8.50, 26.65, 0.2

    You can then relax, look at the runway when rolling, it might ease slightly to the right, but it will not take you into the grass, that is for sure! This just about whipped me, but the last check of the aircraft.cfg, I noticed it did not agree with corresponding value for the opposite wing!

    I think I have everything worked out for my download, it is a very nice flier and it will be in my hangar permanently! Enjoy! Rick :cool:

  4. Stephern - Yes it will, read the Checklist/Procedures, it states 20* flaps, and rotate at 130 KIAS. I, too, fought it for the longest time and then happened on the procedures sheet! Yes, and AFS stated, 4 ticks up up trim will also help!

    It is a very nice download!

  5. dancingdaniel - In case you didn't get word on the fix of the fuel gauge. In the aircraft.cfg file, you need to either revise the existing [fuel] section, or delete the original section and then copy/paste the below back into the [fuel] section. The fix definitely works many thanks to A.F. Scrub and mrzippy!

    [fuel]

    LeftMain = -1.8, -1.5, -0.8, 14, 0.0 //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)

    RightMain = -1.8, 1.5, -0.8, 14, 0.0 //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)

    fuel_type = 1 //Fuel type: 1 = Avgas, 2 = JetA

    number_of_tank_selectors = 1

    electric_pump=1

  6. A.F. - Just flew this some more, seems like when the Tach flutters, the LED fuel flow gauge I added flutters, and now I notice the compass is acting up at the same time. Seems like, when one settles down or stabilizes, the other two also stabilizes. I don't know what you can deduct on what I have given you as I can't figure it out?

    Fuel gauge is still an issue, but that is a "dead gauge!"

    Thanks - Rick

  7. Daniel - RPM gauge, was your flickering back and forth, not very stable? I had also added an LED fuel flow gauge to my panel and you could see both of them flickering at the same time!

    I do like the download and I hope A.F. Scrub can figure it out!

  8. Great download, had problems with many freeware F15 downloads. I had no issues with the flight dynamics of this download, however, I did have some issues with the exterior lighting. Squares around the lights. Found the lights in question in the aircraft.cfg file and just simply changed the Iris entries to the standard nav lights on lights .5 thru .10

    .5 changed to fx_navredh.fx (the "h" value gives you the higher intensity light)

    .6 changed to fx_navgreh.fx (the "h" value gives you the higher intensity light)

    .7 changed to fx_navred.fx

    .8 changed to fx_navgre.fx

    .9 changed to fx_navwhi.fx

    .10 changed to fx_navred.fx

    Make these changes and the squares will go away!

  9. Nice download, but, I wouldn't go so far as lear45xr saying graphics looking like they were drawn with a crayon! I agree, graphics could be better. These aircraft deserve crisp clear graphics, as they are a popular aircraft in both real world and flight simming! Yes, I can live with what we get from the download, but graphics could definitely be improved!

    Flight comments, there are a couple worth mentioning. My aircraft would not slow down when flying with the autopilot engaged. Also, upon releasing the brakes for takeoff, aircraft wanted to pull to the left. Fortunately, I had another Kirk Olsson F16 download that I could do a side-by-side comparison of the aircraft.cfg files to see what was contributing to these issues. I found the following:

    1) Flight tuning section differed, I revised those values, airspeed now settles in at the desired airspeed.

    2) Weight and balance, I found one value that was listed as a positive value, I revised the entry to a negative and now the aircraft stays dead center on the runway!

    If you download this freeware aircraft and are having the same issues I had, please PM me on this site's forum and I will be more than glad to point you in the right direction. Same goes for you, Michael, if you should read this and want to know my findings, PM me, and I will get back to you!

  10. Very nice flying aircraft. One thing I noticed, steerable tailwheel not working the way it should. In the aircraft.cfg file, contact points, point .1 is the tailwheel and points .0 and .3 are the main gear. Scroll over to where you see the 3 fields entered as 22.0 and change point .1 from 22.0 to 60.0, and then renumber both .0 and .3 to 0.0.

    You will see a big difference, a nice large aircraft easy to taxi!

    Enjoy! Rick :cool:

  11. I have had this download for awhile now, and I still very much love to fly this beauty that Milton Shupe has afforded us. There are many additional texture out there now, that can complement the download even that much more! Try it, you will not regret it! - Rick :cool:
  12. Camil - This is a very nice flying download. However, I wish it did not have the "bluish" shade on the Landing and Taxi lights!!! I flew this A/C into Ronald Reagan Washington Natl and you could barely see where to turn off the runway onto a taxiway.

    It's one thing to see these lights on today's highways, very popular with the younger crowds, but very irritating to those of us that have to see them coming down the road! Please consider future uploads with the conventional white lighting! Thank you!

  13. Okay, the fix, and I will not take credit for it. I found this on another site, not a fix for radios, but another problem for previous versions. But neither here nor there, this works on my Pegasus panel, it should for you as well!

    In the Pegasus panel.cfg, do the following:

    1) In [Window 00], deactive lines 57-59 by silencing them with // These are for the old Lear Com1, Nav1, and Nav2. I had already deactivated these, but still had the problem. For the final fix, move on to 2)!!!

    2) In [VCockpit 01], deactive lines 25-27 by silencing them with // Although, I am not a fan of virtual cockpits, I didn't concern myself with having to deactive these files! Well, by not deactivating them, they certainly did have an effect on the 2d Pegasus panel. I did not think this would work, but when I went back in on the aircraft with the Pegasus panel, all was working!

  14. Okay, finally came across the problem that mr zippy was talking about. What I did, is applied two panels to each download (I only kept the ptbuf and the fedex models). That way I could silence out // the panel I am not wanting to use and life goes on. That is fine if you are using the ikeb panel on either. I tried flying tonite, the ptbuf with the Pegasus panel and you can not set the radios in anyway. I even tried to delete that radio stack from this download and reload it from another aircraft, no such luck! These panels are very close in what they offer, so this is not a "deal killer!" I am going to play around with it some more to see if i can't get another radio stack to work! Other than this glitch it is a very nice download! - Rick :cool:
  15. Very nice download! I did notice that on takeoff roll, tail section at the tailwheel gets very bumpy until the tail wheel comes on the runway. Same on landing, again as soon as that tail wheel sets down, things get bumpy again.

    I don't know if this is an isolated download problem, as another member on this site has the same aircraft and he does not experience it with his!

    Oh, and smoke emitting from the tailwheel?

    Other than that, I really have enjoyed the download! Rick :cool:

  16. Very nice download, indeed. However, with 12 aircraft, the size of the download was quite large. I think with all 12 aircraft, the total download was about 156mb. I whittled it down to 7, 129.3mb, and finally down to 4 keepers, 57.8. I'll never get the use out of 12, but now I have a nice selection of 4 to choose from! It's very hard to decide which ones to delete, as they are all nicely presented aircraft! Try this download, Dave Eckert and David Grindele did an excellent job with these!
  17. I agree with cheetah621, the texture appears to be a Sand/Beige, definitely not white! It is my understanding that American wanted the livery to appear light gray, instead of the white. I could live with gray, if that's what American is using on their latest liveries, but definitely not Beige!

    As far as red goes, it looks red to me! That part to me is okay!

  18. Hi Bob - Love the download, however, the thing I can't figure out, at full throttle, I am getting 45" MP and only

    1500 RPM (only 100 RPM into the green arc). Anything you might know about this particular download that can help getting that RPM up into a respectable range. A large aircraft needs more power than what it is getting!

    Thanks, Rick (Downwind66)
