  1. It’s over. Grab onto whatever flight sim is still floating around that seems least bad and soldier on. For within the embers of MS2020 lies MSXXX. They say it will be in 3D with weekly hot fixes embedded in Windows updates for your convenience! Why have to stare in a dark room at the dotted ball turning round and round twice! No matter the cost we will buy it. We are flight simmers. It’s what we do.
  2. I experimented with my new G9 Odyssey that has an aspect ratio of 32:9. The 1000R was impressive and immersive; however, my previous monitor was a HDTV and the G9 seemed grainier across the board. I tried all the FSX resolutions and had to choose between seeing the sky and runway upon landing or seeing my instruments clearly. The best tradeoff yielded a screen less than 2/3 the width of the monitor and small instruments--and not much blue sky. In short, I cannot recommend this monitor for FSX/MS2020. Perhaps the G9 is more suited for 2D games like car racing. Now I’m looking at Steve’s “3 X 43” Panasonic TV’s” but finding room for them will be dicey and how to hook them up yet a new challenge. Steve, if you are reading this, could you share an image of your cockpit setup?
  3. I am a technically challenged old guy trying to make my FSX experience as real as possible. I purchased the above monitor and have just set it up. Awesome. I want to split the screen into three parts: a narrow left, and right, monitor and a central larger monitor. I want to snap into the left side a view looking out the left window and on the right the GPS (or other instruments). Has anyone done this? Do I use "New View" somehow. I would appreciate your advice as I know if I have to do it it from scratch it will take a long time.
  4. Does anyone own a Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor and if so, do you recommend it? Thanks, Jim
  5. I recalibrated my new controls and buttons last week. When I load an old flight now, will my new calibrations be in effect or the calibrations at the time I saved the old flight?
  6. When I "Fly Now" I tweek, move, zoom, and so forth until I have the cockpit and view just right. Is there a way to have that custom view open when I choose "Fly Now"? And then look left and right and snap back forward as usual? Thanks for looking.
  7. Thank you for your support these last days as I purchased all new Redbird controls and because they are so large (and heavy) had to change my cockpit layout and learn how to calibrate in Windows and to map. Also because the Redbird Yoke has fewer buttons than Saiteik had to purchase a little xbox controller to add buttons. I must say that the difference in flying with Redbird is dramatic--very smooth for flying and landing. This FSX is dragging me kicking and screaming up the computer hardware/software curve. My question for today is: Can I map "View Instrument Panel-Main Panel/Radio Stack/GPS" to buttons? For instance, I would like to hit a button and see the GPS pop up on the screen. Thanks for looking. Jim
  8. Yes, my single hub was powered. Jim
  9. Update: I disconnected all my flight controls from the computer and reconnected them this time plugging in my yoke USB directly into the computer. I went through the Redbird Yoke calibration twice then opened FSX and tried a flight with the Cessna 172--the ailerons worked! I don't know which of the things I did fixed the problem but I'm happy now. Thanks all for your patience.
  10. A good try Ray: anybody using Redbird Yoke with FSX successfully?
  11. Thank you, Ray. I did as you suggested and saw no change to serious sluggishness in the ailerons. Autopilot ailerons fine. I checked to make sure no other controller was assigned to the ailerons.
  12. I purchased a new Redbird Yoke and calibrated it with Windows 10 successfully. I set it up with FSX and set the ailerons sensitivity to 100% and null 0%. I watched the ailerons move from external rear and they seemed to move properly. On my maiden flight in the default Cessna 172 Skyhawk the elevators worked fine but the ailerons were very very sluggish. I tried the yoke with MS2020 and the ailerons worked fine. Any ideas as to what is happening with FSX? I want to fly FSX as I mentioned in a previous post because of so many problems with MS2020.

  14. I was considering purchasing new hardware for MS2020 but have found that all the bugs, lack of multiple monitors, no Cessna 172 steam gage plane, trim issues, and other negatives has made me decide to wait a year or two before trying MS2020 again. I had great advice for new hardware from the MS2020 Forum but now that I’m going back to FSX I’m wondering if purchasing new and more expensive hardware will result in a significantly better FSX experience. Any suggestions about what new hardware I should buy? Would a SAMSUNG 49-inch Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor be problematic for FSX? I would add that to two smaller monitors for instruments and views. I currently have 58Mbps internet speed. Steam FSX. Thank you for your advice.
  15. Thanks for the xbox controller tip. How did you map your preferences on the xbox for best views? Which buttons do what?
  16. Thanks for the link. Very informative. I'm now looking at Redmond's products more closely.
  17. We all had expectations and wonderous visions for MS2020 and many of us are disappointed and must lower our expectations for the future. Have faith, MS2030 is just around the corner.
  18. Vous devriez essayer d'utiliser l'anglais dans ce forum.
  19. If you are new to MS2020 and/or have little technical savvy, like me, and are having a problem configuring your new Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro, perhaps I can help. Open MS2020, go to OPTIONS, then to ASSISTANCE OPTIONS. As a tech-poor pilot you may have selected or defaulted to the EASY mode which means you have AI AUTO-TRIM. If you are trying to configure and adjust sensitivity of the wheel while in AI AUTO-TRIM mode you will be fighting the program and will see very erratic uncontrollable results in the cockpit when you move the wheel. TURN OFF the AUTO-TRIM. As there is no manual for MS2020 you may have searched and found the set-up instructions to install your new wheel at: https://flightvelocity.com/pages/trim-wheel-v1-setup-instructions. These instructions did not work for me. Here is what I did after much experimenting, bothering Forum folks, and cursing: 1. Make sure your new trim wheel is plugged into a USV port on your computer. 2. Open MS2020 and to go to CONTROLS 3. Select “FLIGHT VELOCITY TRIM WHEEL PRO” at the top. You will probably see a ? on the right side as the program doesn’t recognize the wheel. You will see nothing in the set-up window. 4. On the left side action window find FILTER between two blue arrows. Click on the right arrow and select ALL. You will see a list of flight characteristics pop up. 5. Go to “SEARCH BY NAME” on the left side and type in “ELEVATOR TRIM”. 6. Find at the bottom of the setup window “ELEVATOR TRIM AXIS (-100 TO 100%)” 7. Click on the left empty box next the “ELEVATOR TRIM AXIS (-100 TO 100%)” 8. Check the REVERSE AXIS box 9. You will see a new window pop up: “>ELEVATOR TRIM AXIS (-100 to 100%)”. Click “START SCANNING” and turn the wheel on your new trim wheel. You should see, “JOYSTICK SLIDER X”. Click “VALIDATE” 10. You will return to the previous window. Look at the white bar and turn your new trim wheel. You should see it move. 11. Go back to the left side action window and click on “SENSIVITY”. Begin with the default settings and that should be good for you. If not, experiment with the values. See You Tube for advice on how to make changes to sensitivity. 12. DON”T FORGET TO SAVE AND APPLY. 13. Fly your plane and experiment and trim away. Message to Microsoft: If you want to increase market share, and make money by selling to people who just want to LEARN HOW TO FLY AN AIRPLANE and who are not computer savvy—MAKE THE PROGRAM EASY TO LOAD AND USE! TELL PEOPLE EXACTLY WHAT CONTROLLERS TO BUY AND HOW TO INSTALL THEM. MAKE A PRINT MANUAL FOR DUMMIES AND INCLUDE IT WITH THE PROGRAM. Same with ADD-ONS. Sheesh.
  20. So, I got the Flight Velocity Trim Wheel Pro (with the sensitivity knob) assigned in the control configuration and the sensitivity set to default. Everything looks good on the linear curve. When in flight any movement of the trim wheel results in dramatic jumps, lags, and otherwise out of control results. Adjustments to sensitivity nada. I saw that others have this problem too when visiting https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sim-update-5-broke-trim-wheel-cant-fly-classic-172/427313 I replaced the new trim wheel with my old Saitek Cessna Trim Wheel and managed to get it recognized and assigned. I adjusted the sensitivity to default and watched the ball move smoothly along the linear curve up and down. However, when in flight there is no response when I move the trim wheel. Further adjustments in sensitivity nada. The program sees the trim wheel properly when in the Controls Mode and not in actual flight. Help!
  21. So, the altitude given in the NavLog is the AMSL of the waypoints and not the cruising altitude suggested. Counterintuitive when the heading is right next to it. Thank you.
  22. Using FSX flight planner. KPVD to KBID, VFR, Direct, Edit Mode cruising altitude, 4500'. NavLog altitude 108'. Waypoints on NavLog: KPVD direct KBID. Other data looks good. Why the low altitude on NavLog?
  23. My new Flight Velocity Trim Wheel is recognized by MS2020. The problem is the trim wheel can't be calibrated properly. It moves the airplane generally in the right up/down way but is jumpy and all over the place. No matter how I sent the sensitivities the same problem. I adjusted all the other control sensitivities and they work. I did notice that the wheel on my CH Eclipse wheel also moves the elevator trims. But when I went to MS2020 controls for the Eclipse Yoke there was no recognition of the Eclipse trim wheel. I don't understand how the Eclipse Yoke's wheel can control the airplane on MS2020 when it's not configured.
