  1. Does it work okay without the mod? I haven't got round to installing this yet so not 100% sure how it works but presumably it leaves the option to fly the vanilla A320?
  2. Must admit I have left off installing any mods (other than official content) until the sim is more established and stable. Learned the hard way from ETS2 and ProMods (the unofficial hugely expanded Europe map) - every time SCS released an update it broke the map and you had to wait 2 or 3 weeks for the PM guys to catch up then a few more weeks later another official update... You get the drift! I am doing quite well with the old Scarebus now, almost landed at ENBR (Bergen) last night but on finals missus decided it was lights out time! Didn't want to attempt save and load at such a critical point so will resume later today.
  3. Have you tried disabling AI ground aircraft? I read that is somehow interfering with systems on the player flight. In the last couple of days I've done probably three hours in the A320 and, apart from the FMC not retaining the flight plan when reloading the game, not seen that issue.
  4. Yes I would never buy a box from PC World/Currys. I get mine from PC Specialist but Overclockers UK is good, too.
  5. I meant to put 2020 in my post... Sorry to hear you are still having problems Paul.
  6. A couple of things to check, also applies to existing PC owners. Check your Windows version isup to date. It turned out I was still running 1903 which strictly speaking is below the minimum spec for FS20. Now updated to 2004 (which took about4 hours). If you are running via a HDMI lead to the monitor, check the full RGB 256 colour output is enabled. For Nvidia users call up Desktop Settings and navigate to the drop down menu. This defaults to limited which cuts off the sharp black and white end of the RGB, change to full. This is good practice to check whenever a driver or O/S update occurs as it can make everything look washed out. Would imagine AMD graphics has a similar function.
  7. Much to my surprise and amazement, plus having watched "A320 Sim Pilot" YT clips, I was actually able to complete a full flight in the A320 including bringing it down to a beautiful landing at Kagoshima. Essentially I let the AP and AT do its work, ensuring I used the FMC to trigger the approach phase. The key as noted above is understanding the AT and that you need to use your joystick throttle to engage the various phases. Most important of all, you need to reduce it to idle just before touchdown or the aircraft will try and accelerate down the runway. Now for the bad news, as with the 747 the A320 FMC does not always load with your flight plan when resuming a saved game so there is still a bug there. I had to get round it by just re-entering the departure and arrival airport, then selecting my runway and approach for landing. Oh and another tip - if you want to fly your FMC route and were wondering where the LNAV button is, you actually use the Heading switch/dial but with the Down arrow to select "Managed Heading" mode. So in summary, yes the A320 isn't as bad as its reputation might seem. There are undoubtedly issues with the physics and FMC needing tweaks and we most definitely need some sort of (official) user manual, heck even a PDF sheet. But don't be put off from trying the aircraft as it is quite a pleasant ride.
  8. I must admit to being surprised they didn't work with Dovetail (DTG) on the project, given they had tweaked the FSX code for the Steam edition and then further into the aborted Flight Sim World. OTOH, those of us with experience of DTG's train sim efforts know they are not exactly perfect either.
  9. I have expressed the view previously that certain areas in FS20 look more like poster art than photo realistic. The training “dojo” around Sedona to my eye looked terrible, yet flying over the Scottish Highlands or Northern England Pennines looked startlingly realistic, apart from the tower blocks poking up in a rural village!
  10. Well the only guide we have at the moment is what PMDG have stated, that it is likely to be late on next year before we could see a complex (study level) version of one of their passenger tubes in the game. Maybe Aerosoft or Just Flight will come up with something a bit earlier, but unlike previous versions where developers could update their existing fleet fairly easily, seems FS20 is a whole different ball game. Personally I want a DC10, Tristar and 707 in there, but accept I may be waiting a while.
  11. Now then, just to offer the counterpoint I decided to sit down last night and have another go with the A320. To my surprise, I actually found things a little better. It definitely still seems overpowered but I took a bit of time to go round all the dials and switches on the Panel. The biggest thing to understand, coming from the "Acme" autopilot of FSX and previous is that the autothrottle is semi automatic, you have to tell it what to do with your throttle control. So all the way forward for TO/GA, pull back slightly for climb then pull back again to cruise. After the initial 5000fpm "launch", I played around with the speed knob, found the V/S knob and was able to set and hold a 1800fpm climb, albeit at 320kn rather than my usual 280kn. Now I had to save the game and come off so I've yet to see if the FMC retains the flightplan and what happens on descent and approach - fun and games to come later. But I will concede some of it at least was user unfamiliarity and maybe pre-conception having read the dismal accounts of flying the thing. Also have to throw one at Asobo and MS, by including an aircraft type that does things quite different to the Boeings and Acme, they should have included some tutorials or at least a PDF to get people up to speed.
  12. OP - you are aware of the workaround using Net Limiter to restrict speed, if you are having issues downloading? 500KB/s seems to be the sweet spot. Once up and running be sure the first thing you alter in the programme options is setting your download speed to "Unlimited". That solved the file looping issue for me. As to the rest, well there's not a huge amount they need to fix to make it more enjoyable for me personally. My main interest is in flying the heavy iron but with the 747 and even more so A320 being rather broken at present (don't have the 787) my thoughts now are to wait another two or three weeks and see what the next patch brings. Essentially we watched all those "Oooo, Aaahh" video clips on YT prior to release and what we got was early access level software. In fact I might dare to say that DTG's attempt at Flight Sim World was probably in a slightly better way than MSFS is at present. Fingers crossed it will get sorted.
  13. If the flight systems in MSFS were being used in a real aircraft, someone would be off to prison by now not to mention multi £quadrillion lawsuits for all those planes falling out the sky!
  14. Personally I think it needs a complete rework as I can't get it to work, even with the understanding AP and AT work differently to Boeing equivalent. Then again, there are YT vids from the guy who states he is a real A320 pilot doing circuits around Edinburgh etc. So maybe there is a bit of both - a learning curve that Asobo have created due to no tutorials, but wack job physics which prevent you keeping the speed in check and a VS climb rate NASA would be envious of.
  15. To be fair it wouldn't take much to get the game to where I would like it to be... 1. Fix the 747 autopilot so it flies in a straight line and can hold APP flying the ILS. 2. Autopilot should be on and settings/panel saved as left when loading a flight (applies to all aircraft). 3. Fix the FMC so it retains the flight plan in between sessions. (Applies to both big jets). 4. Rework the A320 from the ground up, with deference to those who are not experiencing difficulty I find the wretched thing unflyable in terms of speed/VS and the AP not really doing its thing. 5. Fix fuel consumption so we are not burning Avgas or JetAI at sea level rate cruising at FL320. Further down the line... Give me a DC10, 707 and L1011 to fly. Put in some sort of career path or mission generator. And that would be me sorted, really.
  16. No excuse for Asobo slipping up and MS allowing this through QA, but in all honesty the VFR map is next to useless. You can't click on locations as you can in XP11 nor does it contain any town etc. detail to give an idea where you are.
  17. I know that - see what I posted above! The spacebar option doesn't appear for this flight alongside the other exit etc. choices. I'm already running full screen and I have been saving normal flights since the game released.
  18. Known Issue (Unclear if Bug or Design Feature): You cannot save during the nearly 3 hour Introductory flight to the Japan scenery.
  19. It's a great idea and no doubt the scenery is lovely. But are MS/Asobo seriously expecting us to cover this 560+nm flight billed at nearly three hours in one sitting? I got about 40 minutes into it last night, real world intervened, hit Esc to save and no spacebar dialogue to do so. We are not all computer nerds happy to sit in front of our PC screens for 3 hours at a time, not to mention this goes against standing policy as regards resting your eyes etc. when using VDU's. Okay I could use accelerated time (if that's allowed) but then that defeats the point of taking a low, slow(ish) flight to appreciate the visual delights. Maybe there's a checkpoint just around the corner that I missed but if Asobo are going to put these longer challenges in the game, then apply common sense to how the average user is going to make the flights.
  20. Sorry no screenshot but on the new Japanese scenery I noticed a few of the dreaded terrain spikes after taking off on the tour event. Incidentally if you do the tour, turns out you have to complete it in one sitting - won't let you save and resume later so not sure how long it takes to fly from Nagasaki to Tokyo!
  21. Hopefully off to check out Japan in a few minutes. Follow some of those railway lines I used to drive in the Densha De Go games, all those years ago!
  22. One fingers crossed moment... They seem to have fixed the download looping issue, so far I have grabbed 1.24 of the 7.39Gb update and it hasn't dropped yet, albeit none of the files appear to be the size of the FS package files from the base install which were nearly 2Gb each. Oh and just in case anyone hasn't spotted it, the Japanese scenery needs to be downloaded separately from the Market place, as a free item. Edit: Yep first of the larger files coming and it's holding at a steady 8MB/s - way to go Asobo!
  23. Had better get Net Limiter ready for later on, then!
