  1. Yes that is the built in Windows calibration which I always run every couple of weeks anyway in case any of the settings slip.
  2. Well that didn't work... Loaded my saved flight and the flight had defaulted back to running between WP14 and W15. Highlighted the required waypoint (19) - BTW click worked this time - but pressing direct to just brought up a blank entry. In the meantime the AP had once again banked the aircraft too much and put it into a terminal dive as it was trying to get a vector to 15. This is just getting incredibly frustrating and Asobo need to get things patched ASAP.
  3. I was clicking the turn arrow rather than scrolling. I'll try your solution Tim, but they seem to have made it a bit obtuse - either method *ought* to move the highlight.
  4. All or nothing and you can't resize either. This more than anything else, shouts getting ready for the console kiddies, to me.
  5. I think you will find this is on the Garmin unit fitted to the GA planes. The big jets when I tried lose the flight plan from the FMC full stop if you load a saved game. I also found (on the Garmin) there is no response on the dial if you are in the FPL screen with a waypoint highlighted, you cannot scroll down the list and select another to issue the "Direct To" command. Basically, it's b u sted.
  6. I bought it, refunded, then bought it again. There is no doubt it needs considerable work in some areas and I am kind of taking it on faith these will be addressed. At the moment it's quite pleasant for taking a short GA flight, viewing the scenery, taking in some smaller airports etc. However I'm not spending every available gaming hour on it as I thought I might at first. I think the crunch will come in 6 - 12 months time when we see how committed Asobo/MS really are towards moving it forward (and not just the eye candy, which is superb). Also more key is getting some decent third party aircraft in there, particularly some vintage 80's passenger jets - not necessarily study level but something a cut above the rather wonky A320 and 747 that Asobo gave us. If they can do that and avoid sending it down the road of Flight, or Dovetail's ditching of FSW, then I would not give up on it. If not, then a year from now when all the GA options that interest me have been exhausted or if the basic issues are still awaiting fixes then, don't know, maybe it will fade away.
  7. I mentioned this in a post a couple of weeks back. Sometimes it saves, sometimes it doesn't. As regards the callsign, this is presumably blanked because there is no profanity filter. You can give yourself callsign "MF" (abbreviated here, full in the game) and it will pronounce without issue.
  8. I have noticed frame rate tends to be smoother in cockpit view than chase view. I also have to say since the update, loading pauses are far more evident, too.
  9. The GPS and autopilot (autopillock) is unfortunately seriously broken, though usually occurs after you reload a saved flight and try to re-engage it. You should report this yourself to MS/Asobo via their Zendesk bug submission form, online.
  10. Must admit I haven't tried that yet. Didn't the old Bruce Artwick "ATP" have that feature? (Never used that one). Wonder if they will land it for you..
  11. The "Acme" autopilot from FS of old does not exist in FS20. The GA aircraft have it integrated into the Garmin GPS and the jets have bespoke setups.
  12. Interesting results Kurt. The 172 sounds like it might have less of an issue than the 152, so probably the go to choice for GA at present. As regards stunning scenery, can't see an issue with that - I set up a little flight following one of the main railway routes in NSW Australia and blown away. The only slight gripe is that we should have a hotkey to turn off the HUD, rather than doing it at menu level.
  13. There should be a way to do this dynamically while flying, though, particularly for taking screen shots.
  14. We've had this happen in the train sim world as well - in fact I had to get a file taken down from Nels' sister site (Trainsim dot com) a few years back when someone cloned one of my routes and uploaded it as their own work. It is particularly rife over in Trainz world too where N3V sadly play a bit fast and loose with creator rights sometimes when it comes to copyright theft. Of course good luck getting things taken down if the offender is in Russia, China or similar where anything goes so far as nicking other peoples' work is concerned and they are pretty much beyond the reach of any international recourse or appeals to fair play! The problem is everyone is baying for new aircraft (or old ones remade) to fly in this thing, but probably best to see what pops up at reputable sites such as here or A...m and what the payware vendors may start to offer.
  15. I did and the tank was full to the brim on take off! Been flying lean and not ragging the engine but it does seem to be gulping rather than sipping the (virtual) avgas!
  16. Well actually as someone mentioned subsequently, there is an issue with fuel consumption on the GA aircraft. The 152 should do >400nm on a full tank, I was down to 35% after 140nm. However I didn't want relating the bug to detract from my role playing experience. As regards FS9, well last time I tried to run it on my PC, wouldn't even start. Default FSX, I still remember the sunken bridges and desert looking terrain even in northern areas, because they screwed up the land class. And if you try running FSX now on a 4K monitor, you need to use Windows magnifier to see the tiny unscaleable font on some of the menus. So like it or not (and yes it does have bugs that Asobo/MS need to sort out) FS20 is the way forward.
  17. You are so right Kurt. What sort of role playing is it when you find yourself low on fuel during a GA Nile tour flight. Pull up the map and identify the nearest airfield and vector towards it, line up for landing and touch down. Get a parking spot from ground control and taxi over. Call up services and wait while a fuel truck actually appears in the distance and eventually makes its way over to you. Admittedly you don't get a little guy connecting a fuel hose, the process is done via the pop up screen, but still so immersive. Once the fuel was complete, back on to ground for a straight out departure. I had a minor flutter when my flightplan defaulted to WP1 as I was taking off, but once airborne picked up where I left off. It doesn't get much better than that! (Well would have been even better with an Egyptian sunset but the blazing mid-day heat nearly as good).
  18. Haven't got that plane but there are a few threads about regarding wonky steering on the ground. The first thing is to go into Assists and ensure "Rudder Assist" on takeoff is switched off. Second if you have more than one controller connected (e.g. a joystick and a XB gamepad), delete any conflicting assignments on the secondary controller. Finally do make sure when you are in the sensitivity/deadzone part of the joystick options menu, you physically move the stick through all its axis, including rudder then hit F11 to save.
  19. You are alright if you don't touch one of the other devices but the problems start if, like I did the other evening, you have a quick blast in GTA using the joypad (XB) then decide to switch to FS2020 where you fly with the joystick. Not only was the aircraft squirrelling around, the menu screens were going bananas morphing from KBM to XB pad input. If you do play anything before FS20, best to do a hard reboot (i.e. full shut down/start) of the PC first to eliminate any lingering input activity which is obviously being picked up by FS. Another tip for ground handling is to ensure you have the takeoff rudder assist switched off as that seems to interfere with taxi and your take off/landing rolls.
  20. Anyone finding the GA aircraft a bit heavy on the gas consumption? I decided to take the Cessna 152 on a Nile/Pyramid tour*. Took off from an airport on the coast and headed over to the delta then along the river, but having just passed Cairo and the Red Pyramid, already down to 1/3 tank of fuel. The stated fuel range of the 152 is >400nm and I've done less than half that. Admittedly I'm flying low - 1500 to 2000 feet - but my mixture is thinned to 40% and I'm not ragging the throttle. Guess I'm going to have to find somewhere to put down and "buy" some Avgas. * If you're contemplating this, scenery wise you might want to skip the section from the coast down to Cairo. It's flat as the proverbial pancake, fields and small towns. Nothing to see and not quite like all those "Mummy" movies depict the Egyptian landscape as looking!
  21. Also switch off rudder assist, I was having all sorts of issues steering on the ground until I killed that one in the Assist list.
  22. Steam update was totally painless. Most of the files were for the Steam element, the actual MS/Asobo element was around 87kb (yes that's kilobytes) and took all of about 90 seconds to install. Obviously sorry to hear people are having problems, but it's a bit like condemning a car manufacturer because you happened to get the one that developed a particular defect, when the other 20k models didn't.
  23. Thanks for that Steve. As noted previously the sim can be erratic when it comes to remembering your custom callsign and registration when loading a saved game.
  24. Well the good news is the first patch didn't break anything and it might just be placebo but loading time getting in flight seemed a bit quicker. However while it is useable for GA if you avoid the autopilot and great fun for sightseeing, still not quite primetime for serious "tube" flying where you need everything working just so.
