  1. Spotted this over at the Steam forum... https://steamcommunity.com/app/1250410/discussions/1/2949251578277848794/ Although my download seems to have finally completed this is definitely worth noting for future patches where the problem will no doubt persist. Unless of course Asbo adapt their servers to cope with fast connections.
  2. Well now that's odd. I shut down the program yesterday evening while it was still 5Gb short of the whole patch, trying to grab one of the big files. This morning, I decided to see what was happening. I got the loading screen but no update menu then, after about 3 or 4 minutes, the normal thin progress line started to appear along the bottom. Went to clean my teeth and on coming back, presented with the in game menu screen. Go figure... Am hoping Asobo did something overnight which has enabled the patch to finish, my only concern is that somehow I ended up with a half patched version. Guess I'll find out when I try a flight later on!
  3. I don't want a refund, I just want the patch to finish installing so I can actually get flying again...
  4. It's complicated! Essentially you can explore the whole of our galaxy or within smaller areas indulge combat or trading. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_Dangerous
  5. Nope that didn't work either - file gets to 2% then aborts back to zero. Will leave it for now to save my temper, fly up to Beagle Point and back in Elite Dangerous by which time hopefully Asobo will have sorted out this meshiver.
  6. I will try that but bear in mind this is the Steam version... Doesn't show up in Windows Store. One last thing to try, running as Admin from the Steam sub menu after inputting the previous string into the Command Line.
  7. Fresh start this afternoon and the problem is still persisting. About to go out for a couple of hours in the sunshine, see if it has managed to process anything when we come back. Did a bunch of clowns programme this, or what? I've tried the command line option as detailed a page ago, nothing heard from Zendesk so open to any suggestions as to how I can force the patch to complete?
  8. Steam only updates its own files related to the sim. Everything else, i.e. the big update comes when you start the game from Asobo/MS. About to file a report with Zendesk about the patcher dropping out, still doing it. They need to have an option for an offline installer which just downloads as one executable or archive.
  9. Finally got my download to stabilise by carrying out the process referenced at Avsim: Run " netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal " in a Windows Command prompt and it seems to clear whatever is causing the patcher to fall over. However (IMHO) Asobo and MS really need to consider how future patches are delivered. I've had my PC tied up for several hours now trying to sort this and because Steam thinks I am already logged in and playing FS, I can't run any other Steam game while waiting for the thing to complete. Behemoth is the expression that comes to mind... Edit: Spoke too soon. It's choking again. What a load of old tripe.
  10. That made me smile, Steve. I have now called it a day for this evening, couldn't budge that big file - will try again tomorrow.
  11. It's now made it to "bigfiles 0.1.63" currently on 5% so if that aborts, think I'll load up a chess game or SimSig… It's got to be the server getting slaughtered, I would suggest.
  12. Well it finally grabbed the Paris airport but after a couple of smaller files, now playing the same silly boogars with the KLAX update. Seems that any file over a certain size is causing issues and before anyone asks there is over 300Gb of spare capacity on my C: drive!
  13. I think for some of us Art, the patcher itself is breaking - see my comment above. Getting stuck on certain files and looping round. Whether this is due to server overload or some other issue, can't say. Going to give it another 10 mins then throw in the towel tonight and play something else.
  14. I can't even get the patch to download. It has got into a loop trying to grab one of the Paris airport updates - gets to around 35% of that file, drops it and has to start again. I already restarted the PC from a cold boot and getting the same issue.
  15. Or Steam downloads the first bit, then the sim patcher which is 11.46Gb. Looking forward to seeing if it has addressed some of the AP issues - the notes would indicate it has. Edit: Make sure to allow plenty of time, the server must be getting hammered, after 10mins only about 500Mb of the update complete. as with the original install, it seems to be downloading and installing/updating rather than grabbing the entire patch and running at the end.
  16. You can still use an external utility such as Plan-G to create flightplans with custom waypoints (which you can give a meaningful name) and save them as FSX .'pln files, which you can load from the FS20 planning screen.
  17. You can save a flight (Esc, Spacebar then classic Windows input box). What doesn't always save (ATM) is the flightplan in the FMC on the jets and sometimes the Garmin on the GA's, though it is still present in the NavLog and the visible waypoints. Zendesk have acknowledged this as a fault supposedly "Solved" but as we know if you read the definition of what that means on their site, actually draw very little from it.
  18. As an aside, I do find the visuals in the USA, particularly the mountainous parts, don't strike me as being quite right. They look like... poster art is the best description I can come up with. Now before anyone starts about my GPU and graphics settings, this is something which I found exactly the same in the pre-release video clips particularly those showing the training flights around Sedona - which were watched on a variety of TV's and a iPad. By contrast other hilly or mountainous parts of the world don't seem to suffer this effect - the northern hills and moors of the UK look just right.
  19. Most of the replies are automated I would have thought - in fairness they must be getting 10s of 1000s of feedback forms a day. Also, if you read the small print "Solved", as the issues I reported have had their status updated to, does not acknowledge that it is or bug, or if and when it will be fixed/implemented.
  20. Well the 747 App mode definitely works as I did an Autoland yesterday evening. VS... now that has a mind of its own!
  21. I'll try Great Falls, thanks. Oh yes, definitely need the taxi helper - I'll have another rummage through the options.
  22. Well I managed to complete a short flight in the 747 last night, Seattle to Spokane (reminds me of the flights we used to do in the Thalion Airbus sim). Don't know whether someone can confirm the workflow with 747 Autoland - do I kill the autothrottle at 500 feet as you would do normally (then F1 to close it over the runway) or does the process take care of that, i.e. hands off until the roll out? I also need to work out how to switch off the artificial flight path (blue or red rectangles) as I find it rather intrusive, especially when autopilot is doing the work. Okay now to see if there is an airport in Idaho or Montana that can take a 747, so I can do another 50 min flight west to east.
  23. I call it FS20 for short. Then I was the odd one out calling MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator) MTS in the beginning - in actuality Microsoft is one word not two. So it should be MFS2020... In addition recognising Microsoft as one word avoids the pundits abbreviating as M$... :)
  24. Steam will only update its own element, which was only about 500Mb of the install. Core updates will be applied in game which come from MS' own server.
