  1. Ordered from Steam, who are the de-facto "jacket" for most of my non disc games. Why have yet another DRM jacket on the PC? Also Steam updates are normally seamless. With the price even of the standard version, MS are still raking in £42 off a £60 sale (minus VAT) which is well above the RRP of most other PC games. And MS wouldn't have put it on Steam if they weren't happy with the business model involved... And while I'm grateful to MS for bringing us the next generation of FS, gamers don't owe them anything - just look at the mess that was MS Flight and how they abandoned both attempts at a MSTS2, not to mention their abject failure at updating and patching the original MSTS (though most of that was some shoddy work by the outsourced developer, but the box still had MS' name on it).
  2. Has anyone had much success in flying these in XP11? My first attempt based on the control method in FSX, i.e. joystick throttle for rotor RPM and pitch forward/back for collective flipped me on my side. I gleaned that XP11 has a separate control for collective, which is F3/F4 on the keyboard. I can now get off the ground and move but the sensitivity is awful, very hard to pitch forward or back without again flipping over. I'm not expecting Gunship 2000 easy mode but this just seems way too hard especially given the helicopter is an ideal tool to fly low and slow taking in the scenery. Any tips other than "git gud" would be welcome. Edit: It does now seem to be coming together a bit more, which is quite rewarding.
  3. XP11 has graded runways as an option so this will be really great if in FS2020. Actually is it me or does the FS2020 interface have more than a nod towards the XP front end? The only thing with that video, apart from maybe the guy having a bit less coffee before doing the voiceover, is that a comparison between what we see with the streamed data as opposed to the default world from the basic install would have been useful.
  4. Appreciate the additional information. Forgive me if my earlier question was a bit pedantic, but in the circumstances some clarification seemed wise.
  5. Credible source with link, please? Otherwise if this is a wind-up post, then the mods need to lock or delete it. In any event I've pre-ordered my copy from Steam who I assume will honour the original price.
  6. Personally I would just go with the Steam version, in fact that's what I've pre-ordered. Most of my other games are on Steam and updates are delivered painlessly. Okay you don't get the manual of the boxed version but let's face it, who actually bothers to RTFM these days anyway?!
  7. Excellent. Think I will get my pre-order in. Edit - done!
  8. I'll certainly try that Wim, though never had to do it previously (AFAIR) when running the FS9 or original FSX version.
  9. Will see if I can dig out my old username and password over there. However I think the issue may well be FSX-SE as it put files in different places to the old MS legacy version. I thought the patches from Flight One had addressed that, as one seemed to correctly set up Sim Connect which previously had prevented the aircraft running at all in FSX-SE. Ultimately I guess in less than a month I'll be moving over to 2020 so it's probably not really worth pursuing, just would have been nice to make one more transatlantic flight in the old bird.
  10. I mentioned the price of the Premium version to my wife and response was, "You won't be spending much time on it as that sort of outlay will require the house decorating from top to bottom." I settled for the Standard version... :)
  11. Guess it must be me then. :( > 400 views and no-one else had this problem? Doing a bit of Googling seems to flag up other advanced aircraft such as PMDG also suffer from this fault and in fact found a post in this forum from six years ago by myself about the exact same issue. If I can't load a flight without the complex plan in the FMC remaining present and active then I might as well uninstall these aircraft and revert to flying freeware or Just Flight stuff...
  12. See other thread re CD Keys. tl:dr Proceed with caution, you don't know where the key may have come from, could be region locked etc. particularly as at this stage who would even be reselling.
  13. After downloading all the patches from Flight One Software, I was finally able to get this magnificent aircraft loaded and working in FSX-SE under Win 10. Or so I thought... When I went to resume a saved flight yesterday evening, I found the FMC had lost all my route details and settings that I had previously input. Is this a known issue or have I encountered an unexpected bug? Do we know if there is a fix or workaround? The LDS 767 is pretty much dependant on the FMC for navigation as there is no default GPS included on the aircraft and being designed for long flights almost inevitable you will need to save and load several times to complete the journey.
  14. I've tried all that Tim. Sometimes it works once, but as soon as the PC is restarted reverts to the small display. No worries though, I just use the W10 magnifier function as required. Excellent. Off to get in the programme now.
  15. I bought XP11 a few weeks ago and have been rather disappointed. For a (at full price) >£50 piece of software there are many bugs and issues that shouldn't have gone beyond beta let alone well into release. There are no tutorials for any of the jetliners, there is no flight planner without using external sites. The 737 and 747 both have issues with the autopilot not resuming properly on loading a saved game, or speedbrake/landing gear/flaps having extended. Very hard to control the hedge trimmers as there is no way to tone down the P factor. If you complain about the 737 at the XP org forum, you just get told to use the Zibo version. There is very little freeware content for XP11 at least for the big jets and the little bit of payware I've seen is megabucks, not paying that to install in a flawed platform. On the plus side it is more 4K compatible than FSX-SE with its tiny launch screen and the real world weather works. The default scenery and airports also look slightly better, than FSX at least. Obviously cannot judge XP11 vs. FS2020 for a few more weeks yet, but providing MS don't screw up and it actually runs on the hardware, personally I think there is no contest which will be the winner.
  16. I never bothered with P3D as I didn't really want to go through the charade of stating it was for educational purposes, when it most emphatically was not. However I did quite recently purchase XP11 which has turned out to be rather disappointing. That will probably get uninstalled to make way for FS2020, if not before. However having finally got my Level-D 767 working in FSX-SE I don't think I will be uninstalling that, though I might prune some of the unused add-ons to free up a few 100Mb of HD space.
  17. Latest "oops" I've discovered in XP11, since starting to fly the 747, is that on resuming a saved flight the landing gear tends to be lowered... Ho hum. However to add to the quirkiness it doesn't seem to add any drag or get ripped off when cruising at FL350 doing Mach 0.84!
  18. So long as there is a reasonable selection of freeware and not too expensive payware, I'll be happy. It also looks like, unlike previous FS's, the default will actually be slightly superior and okay to fly, not leading to an immediate clamour for something better.
  19. Think the 707 was the Captain Sim, not sure about the 727. Didn't spend much time in the default jets but you are correct Tim, cut my teeth on the freeware and payware stuff with avionics and AP etc. to modern standards.
  20. I remember the first time I encountered the old style autopilot in FS9 (I think) when flying a 707 or 727. Oh and no autothrottle. However after the initial daunting prospect I actually enjoyed the challenge and the satisfaction of successfully completing a flight without keying in a few settings or FMC flight plan.
  21. Places like that tend to be for Steam purchases, though in this instance I agree - would rather not take a chance and purchase direct from MS, or Steam if/when it shows up.
  22. Appreciate the heads up on that. Last game I bought that needed a disc in the drive was (I think) Mass Effect 2. Can see why they are doing it but not ideal to keep handling optical media each time you want to play the game. Personally I'm still holding out for another week or two, see if it pops up for sale on Steam.
  23. You leave my Yorkshire Tea ( https://www.yorkshiretea.co.uk/ ) alone!! Essential beverage during a relaxing FS or XP flight...
  24. V.A.T.? At 20% that just about = the difference between the two currencies. However it's nothing new, just look at the price of everything in the UK from cars to domestic appliances or even petrol. We have always been an expensive country, but that is bordering on a political discussion which I doubt is permitted on here. Also in real terms, the price of games has come down. I remember in @1994, most of the Microprose sims like F15 Strike Eagle and F117 Stealth Bomber etc. were selling for around £40 - £45 new in WH Smith. 26 years later, to be paying £60 for a sim that gives you the whole world, ain't bad. In fact ISTR paying around £40 for the boxed FS5.1 in early 1995, after I moved from the Amiga to PC.
