  1. Just read it. Excellent article. Will use the Process Explorer to see what my VAS usage is. Thanks
  2. Excellent info. That is what i needed to know. I have a fair amount of scenery files that are photoscenery so I will deactivate them when not flying in those area's. I will look at the Scenery Config Editor. Thanks
  3. Jorgen: Can you answer this? "if say I have 25 scenery files in my Addon Scenery folder, that haven't been activated in FSX. Do they consume memory if not installed into FSX?"
  4. I have been dealing with some nasty OOM incidents and the MS suggestion is to reduce Aircraft, Scenery and/or AI Traffic files. I would like to know if scenery files in the FSX Addon Scenery folder (not activated in the FSX scenery menu), consume memory resources? I can remove aircraft and adjust my AI aircraft (UTL) easily but I am not sure if say I have 25 scenery files in my Addon Scenery folder, that haven't been activated in FSX. Do they consume memory if not installed into FSX? Thanks
  5. After 10 years of storage of my copy of FS9, and seeing no further improvement of my FSX, I decided to reinstall FS9 and see if I could bring it beyond the default set up in regards to scenery, terrain and model improvements. I am considering the EVO9 texture addon as there have been many positive comments about transforming the terrain textures. One aspect of FS9 that I sorely miss in FSX is the plethora of outstanding FREE scenery creations, such as the 9Dragons Kaitak. So, to amuse myself and keep me busy for a while, it is time to reinstall FS9. In wanting to personalize my home airport KORH, my dear late friend John Loney Jr, built a 99% accurate model of the terminal that was constructed in 2010. He made this model for FSX and unfortunately Instant Scenery3 for the FS9 dll module, does not recognize it so that I could place it in FS9. I have tried using Model Converter X but it is far beyond my capabilities of understanding and the knowledge required of how how to use it. I would like to know if anyone here is proficient with it and would consider converting just one model for me from FSX to FS9. Just one. Nothing else. Also, any other programs that you might want me to consider. These are what I currently have. 1. Ultimate Terrain USA, Canada, and Europe 2. Complete World coverage DVD's of FS Genesis Mesh 3. Zinertek Water Configurator 4. Active Sky v 6.5 My goal is to improve the visual aspects of FS9. Thanks to anyone who can help. Chris
  6. I'm trying to install Active Sky V 6.5 but subject file is required. MS no longer supports it and it is not available on their site. If someone has it, could you kindly send it to me as an attachment or via a PM. Thanks
  7. Just tried logging on to Avsim, and this is what came up on my screen. Repeated attempts by logging in manually produced the same results. Have they gone under?
  8. Or, in Win 10, you can use the XBox Game Bar (you don't need XBox to use the Game Bar)which has great video recording and screenshot functionality. Screenshots and videos can be found under My PC/Videos/Captures. Unlike Instant Replay in FSX, you can share your FSX videos with anyone you choose.
  9. Ok Steve. Good point. You make an interesting point in that I was not aware that you could use Instant Replay as the sim (flight) was running. I only use it after my flight was completed. Is this a feature I have been missing all these years? And if so, how do you implement it? Seeing that I don't have MSFS 2020, this may not be relevant to members of this forum. My apologies. Thanks Chris
  10. I use the X Box Game Bar which I found under the Settings menu in Win 10. You don't need X Box to use this recording function. You can ad lib audio as well if you want to share the video with someone and provide personal commentary. It is rather data intensive and you can find yourself creating rather large files pretty quickly so when I make a video, I break it into several smaller files and then use Dropbox to send them. Very easy to start, stop and add audio, with keyboard strokes.
  11. I currently have Active Sky Next for FSX which I know is very old. Am interested in the Full Version of AS16 but am confused by the comment on the Active Sky page, which reads, Please verify you have the correct version of AS16 before purchasing. Well, I don't have AS16. What is the product being advertised and what is the relation to the above statement? Thanks
  12. You can try using SAMM1112 found in the library here which will create a model of a selected aircraft that can be placed using Instant Scenery 3. Instant Scenery 3 was the last version to be released and I can be found at the Flight1 web site under Legacy products. It is payware but I find it an indispensable program for placing scenery object's in FSX. I have created numerous static aircraft using SAMM from aircraft that are in my Sim Objects/Airplanes folder.
  13. Thanks. Found the flights plans and will now export them to Little Nav Map.
  14. Very interesting info. I will look at Little NavMap and see if I can create a flight plan using waypoints from a real world plan. Thanks
  15. Jorgen: "Real",where I fly the plane. All my AI is handled by Ultimate Traffic Live.
  16. Just did and this is the info I was looking for. All the waypoints are listed. Thanks Now, will FSX allow you to emter/create a flight plan, waypoint by waypoint, or do I need another app to do this?
  17. Thanks John. I can see the route but I would like to know each and every waypoint on that route. Is that info accessible? Chris
  18. I had some fun yesterday with my son and his wife as we texting back and forth while they were waiting to board a JetBlue E190 at KEYW for a non-stop flight to KBOS. I told him I was going to create a flight plan using the default FSX flight planner (not the best- maybe the worst) and we would see who actually arrived first at KBOS. Well, and not surprisingly, he arrived 53 minutes before I did. So my question to you simmers is this. Can anyone reference a source where I can see the actual flight plan that JetBlue used for this flight so I can compare it to what FSX generated. I have searched the JetBlue web site but only can come up with flight schedules. The flight number btw, was 2306. Now, if I can find the exact plan, what flight planner do you recommend to use to either convert or manually enter the data that could be used in FSX. Thanks
  19. I notice on an RA gauge that is part of the panel gauge assignment, that there is a "Bug" which resides at the number "2" on the dial. Default setting. The gauge dial goes up to 2500 feet. Does moving the bug (feet) setting determine the decision height and callout, with an appropriate sound package?
  20. This is exactly the same situation I found myself facing when trying to use the Garmin 530. I opted for what I consider the far more intuitive GPS gauge by Gavin Munro available here in the library. Just do a search for "munro" (no quotes) and you will find a host of panels he has developed as well as the GPS gauge. He basically has taken all the functions of the Garmin and reprogrammed them into an easy to read and execute functions. You won't have to guess what button or arrow to click and in what order to bring up the function you are looking for, and then try and remember in what order you selected them in order to return to where you started. Commands are in easy to read labels and Icons.
  21. I clicked on he "gauges" menu in FSPS but failed to find the 3 dots. Can you elaborate?
  22. Another thing to be aware of is if you use FS Panel Studio to build or modify panels and you want to add a gauge, FS Panel Studio will only access gauges that are in your FSX main Gauge folder, not from gauges that are in an aircraft's panel folder.
  23. The author did a "running" update which means corrections have been made to the file as listed gps_1_8.zip Just download it again and re-install it again. Done.
  24. Here is the author's explanation about the TAWS feature taken from the documentation page of the gauge. "The Terrain Awareness (TAWS) Map shown on the next page is a map which measures terrain altitudes from the height of the aircraft rather than from sea level. The system used on this aircraft follows the colour scheme specified for a Boeing 737-800 however does not have the same accuracy as colours can only be defined in FSX per 1000 feet instead of 250 feet as needed by the specification. This TAWS map shows terrain from 2000 feet below the aircraft to 1000 feet below the aircraft in Green, from 1000 feet below to 2000 feet above the aircraft is Yellow, and Terrain more than 2000 feet above the aircraft as Red. If the aircraft is more than 2000 feet above terrain the display is the same as the monochrome map. The specification states that the Green should only extend to 500 feet below the aircraft (or 250 feet if gear extended) and the Yellow above that. The TAWS icon can only be clicked on after first clicking the TERR icon. The map will reload with every 500 foot change in aircraft altitude and the screen will go blank during the reload. It can be slow to load and temperamental. When flying at high altitude the map will have the same appearance as the standard monochrome map but will still go blank from time to time when reloading." All I can add is download/install it and see if it is "finicky" or not!
