Ah well, all is not lost! When I was on Windows 7 I used ClipX for http://bluemars.org/clipx/ . It does much the same. John

It sounds like you don't really need FSScreen these days. From Windows 10, the clipboard accepts multiple items. You access the older ones with the Windows key+V. They remain until you shut down the computer or specifically delete them from the clipboard. John
  3. Interesting, thanks for clarifying that. I was aware FSGRW is fine because I still use it! But curious that both publishers do not mention FS9 - is it really so old that they think they won't get any sales? I think they are wrong. J
  4. . . . but according to that web site, that software doesn't work with FS2004. Perhaps you know something they don't, or have accidentally posted in the wrong forum? John

    AIR files

I thought that v1.52, linked to by Tim above, is the latest version and I have been using it for ages with no issues. I would be interested to know the difference between that and the file you are referring to. John
  6. The first place to look should be the software developer's own support forum. Does this help? https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/this-is-getting-frustrating.456573/#post-911842 John

    elevated lakes

To be fair, what we are talking about fixing is a problem we have created for ourselves by choosing to install add-on mesh. True, we are installing it because it is more accurate, but "out of the box" the lakes, rivers and roads fitted in with the mesh perfectly almost everywhere. "Low and Slow" was entirely possible without those glaring errors, but the terrain wasn't up to the exacting standards of many of us. We should not forget that MS probably had to create all of that in a cumbersome manner - the satellite-based data that add-on mesh is created from just didn't exist when FS2004 was being developed. On top of that, they were distributing the entire game on CD-ROM and were thus limited in the LOD they could provide without drastically increasing the installation discs and installation time, and probably the purchase price too. From memory they did provide some higher detail mesh in parts of the USA, their anticipated key sales area. Today, it is all a question of each person's priorities as to what imperfections they are prepared to put up with. Best regards, John

    elevated lakes

Fair enough. Me have more experience than anyone? Not at all! Like most, I have only learnt what I need. Fixing sunken and elevated lakes isn't really a priority for me, I do see them occasionally but I tend to snort and keep flying. Another wee annoyance are wrongly aligned roads. But as I generally fly at 8000 feet plus, I only really notice these things when taking off and landing. If there was a quick fix for all, I would jump at it. In FSX (if I am allowed to use naughty words here) I used FTX Global from ORBX which fixed the roads, rivers, lakes etc. It used data provided by SATNAV firms if I remember rightly, and it definitely worked with non-ORBX mesh. So it can be done, but it no doubt costs more than would ever be justified for those of us clinging to FS2004, and given the similarities between the two simulators I have wondered (since reading this thread) if the files could be ported across. These days, I don't have the time I used to have for meddling, so there's a good chance I will never actually get round to trying it before I pop off. But dealing with lakes one at a time really isn't something I would spend time on. (I no longer use FSX but the files are safely backed-up.) Best regards, John

    elevated lakes

I would say there are a few sweeping statements above. If you use ADE's features to the full, you don't need to place aprons under runways and even if you really really really want to do so, they don't have to be wider than runways. You can even place narrow taxi paths there. ADE will adjust the terrain by creating its own file during your compilation of the airport if you want it to. Library objects invariably place themselves in relation to ground level, so no adjustments should be ever necessary. I'm reluctant to use the word "never" but I've not seen any scenery objects that don't adjust themselves (whether in an ADE file or not), and that includes autogen. ADE is a very advanced editor but can achieve a lot when you use all the features in the manual. It does so much more than AFCAD, and even the bits you might feel you should be familiar with are done differently. The creation of "project" files and the need to "compile" the airport separately to the design changes you make are two things that baffle many. Nobody can just walk in and use ADE without a lot of initial frustration, the steep learning curve is most certainly there. One shouldn't poo-poo that, very few users (including me) have learnt to use every feature. John
  10. Compatibility > Run this program as Administrator may solve that. John
  11. Although I have used Active Sky Evolution for years, I also have FS Global here and funnily enough I fired that up the other day for comparison. My conclusions were that both had their advantages. ASE seems slow to load (initially) and is lumbered with a huge clunky interface packed with features I will never need, whereas FSG chugs away quietly and unobtrusively. I couldn't see a lot different with the weather depiction. What I do like about FSG is that it resets the AI after loading a flight, making sure the correct runways are in use for the weather concerned. What I don't like about it is that (for me, anyway) it also frequently resets AI levels to zero at the same time! Still searching for a solution to that little annoyance . . . The only other weather programme for FS2004 I know of is FS Meteo. I think we have to accept that few developers can justify developing for such an old simulator but those other than ASE have proved that theirs work with almost everything except perhaps the latest P3D variety so it seems to me there may be a hidden motive with the AS variations not doing so. John
  12. SUGGESTION: When you view a list of the latest posts in any forum section, the title of any unread post is slightly bolder than it would be otherwise. On my screen (maybe others see it differently) the difference is barely discernible. Would it be possible to highlight unread posts using a different colour, or maybe using a "New" icon of some sort alongside? Nothing dazzling or tacky required, just maybe dark blue text or a little red dot. Best regards, John
  13. Strangely enough, an update to Windows 10 messed up the sound on my FSX, which until then I was trying my hardest to enjoy. It turned out to be a known issue with certain hardware/software combinations so FSX got its marching orders and FS2004 rules here. I'm just mentioning this because I don't see the slightest chance of that issue ever being fixed as Windoze 10 is already outdated. So hanging on to an old operating system isn't always going to be the be-all and end-all. John
  14. I rarely use FS Sound Studio these days as (sadly) I can't make it work on a modern operating system*, but I do not remember it having a facility for (literally) editing sound files. What it certainly does do is allow you to edit how and when sound files are used, and that seems likely to me to be how the issue arose. * - I am all ears if anybody knows how . . . John
  15. Just for info . . . EZ Scenery does not seem to mesh well with modern operating systems and requires you to re-enter your registration code each time you use it. I think it is fine otherwise and I use it from time to time. According to Flight1, Instant Scenery 3 "might not work" on Windows 8 or higher and they do not offer support on the product, although they will still gleefully take your money for it. I have not been able to make it work on Windows 10. You can download a demo first to see if it will work for you. John

    Active Sky 6.5

Flight Simulator will use runways for whatever weather exists. I think what you are experiencing is the weather loading after AI traffic has made its decisions. You can fix that by changing the FS time by as little as a minute to reset the AI traffic AFTER the weather has loaded. John

    Active Sky 6.5

It seems not. From https://forums.hifisimtech.com/threads/active-sky-for-fs9.6953/ in March 2019: I can confirm Active Sky Evolution still works but there is no certainty how long that will continue. John
  18. This issue often arises when the AFD file has been edited with AFCAD2. If that's the case, reinstate the original file and see if that resolves the problem. If it does, use ADE or AFX to edit AFD files in future and dump AFCAD2, permanently. It is very rare for commercial scenery to be released with errors such as those described. If this has been the case, a fix will almost certainly be available. The place to ask for that is the developer's support, not here. You should not be paying for an add-on and then having to faff around as described above! John

    AIFP3 error

In some versions of Windows you must run the Flight 1 Repair Tool "As Administrator", so do try again. It is prone to telling porky-pies about having made the repair if you don't. John

    PF3 ATC

Wow, there are some detailed questions there, and some outside my knowledge - e.g. SIDS and STARS. I don't use them but know they can be replicated. You can use keys or speech recognition to communicate, you can change frequencies manually or automatically, you can acknowledge ATC instructions manually or automatically. Please do try the trial version to find out what it is really like - my words don't do it justice. It is available at Try before you buy - OnCourse Software (ocs-support.co.uk) . I have read that some users have had difficulty installing the demo (perhaps because it works across so many operating systems and Flight Simulators) but check their forum or ask on there if you do. PF3 ATC

I use it all the time, it is a complex piece of software and has a huge number of configuration settings so it does take a while to get the hang of but I expect once you get it running as you want it, you will never look back. Biggest plus point is the huge number of accents, automatically associated with appropriate airlines, and their countries for ATC. Second biggest plus point is that it uses realistic transition levels rather than 18000 around the world (although you can modify them all to 18000 or what you like if you want!) Biggest negative point is that the recordings were made many years ago so they do not include recent airlines. In theory they could be created like EditVoicePack but the sheer number of voices make that an unpalatable idea. In such cases I use the ICAO code, for instance MyTravel Airlines (ICAO VZ) was "Kestrel" but that isn't included, so I would fly it as VICTOR ZULU 1234. Edit . . . that is a poor example because it IS included, but hopefully you get the gist' This product has the best support I have ever come across (whether for Flight Simulator or other subjects) through the forum there, and an incredibly detailed manual which would probably last you through a transatlantic flight! I think a trial version is available if you want to suck it and see. Hope this helps, John
  22. I think you will find it works fine if you spell flightsim correctly. John
  23. Email address is on that site's home page: Cloudy's Flight Simulator site (braybaroque.ie) John
  24. G'day, Generally I would agree the latter is the easiest way, as I find it a pig to remember and locate the correct directory where the flights are stored. Yeah, yeah, I know I could make it easier with a shortcut! But one advantage of looking there is that, provided you associate FLT files with FS9.EXE, all you need is a double-click on the filename and Flight Simulator will start up and load that flight automatically. Quite a natty feature, really, if you reload flights frequently. Best regards, John
