  1. My new i5 8GB RAM laptop (now 2 years old) did not have a cd/dvd drive, so I had to make a 'plan' as it were. Googled FS2004 ISO.. In any case, I have a complete FS2004 installable, as well as a clean FS2004 install (with the My Documents folder), patched with the 9.1 update & patch on a portable drive, that allows me to do very easy installs (& multiple installs), either by running the ISO or doing a copy & paste.
  2. Thank you for your polite reply. As a Microsoft OS beta tester, as well as a beta tester for various sim add-on creators, as well as being a PC hardware tester & sim builder, I do understand what I'm on about. As I said, what works for me.. I'm not sure as to me being the one who is confrontational, but this conversation, for me, is now done.
  3. Thank you for the polite response, that simply says that your idea is better. All I'm asking is for you to tell us what add-ons will be broken by my advice., not a 10,000 word explanation of how Windows work. A simple answer would have sufficed. Anyway, as a beta tester for various add-on creators, I have to make sure that my system works, & it does. Perfectly in Windows 11 as well! Thank you for your criticization of my advice.
  4. As I said, also with 100% complete accuracy, - yes, I do use the sticky settings - everything that I have works, without being broken. You are obviously using different add-ons that I do.. Please list (not all) only a few that are broken for you? Only a few please, so I can see if my installs have any commonality to yours.
  5. Well, on my i5 8GB RAM laptop, I had 8 unique installs of FS2004, & P3Dv4.5, with a combination of payware & freeware, & did not loose anything, or have any issues With Windows 10. I've just updated to Windows 11 without ANY issues at all, and have lost nothing.
  6. I've had no luck getting Plan-G to connect to my FS2004.. however, it works perfectly with my P3Dv4.5. So, I'll probably stick to FSNav for FS2004. Thanks, everyone, for the advice & help.
  7. I'll give it another try.. I've also reinstalled FSUIPC & everything seems to be in their correct spot, with the FSUIPC dll is in Modules. I do have the sim in C: & not in Program Files. I'm using Plan-G 3.2.2 & I'm downloading that mapbox style set. Thanks for all the help.. I'll keep trying & will report back.
  8. I downloaded & installed Plan-G & set up the scenery pointer to my FS2004 install.... All good there. However, when I click the 'Connect' button, all I get is a 'ding' & it does not connect to my FS2004. Any ideas? (I'm using Windows 10, if that makes a difference)
  9. I've downloaded, installed & run the latest version of Plan-G. It seems to be working. No idea as to why I downloaded an old version..
  10. LOL - Seems I really got my G-spots mixed up.. Anyway, I did try that Plan-G 2.0.5 & on running it, it tells me that internet is not working.. Anyway, I'll try again..
  11. Thanks, but not quite what I'm looking for. I would like to be able to show my current flight in Google Earth. I've done quite a bit of tile downloading with FSEarth Tiles, but it ended up, as you say, using up a LARGE amount of disk space. What it does is to load 'tiles' from Google Earth to be used in the sim. So you get photo real scenery. Not quite what I'm looking for. I did try an old version of G-Plan that supposedly should work, but on loading, it told me that I was not connected to the internet - I was!

    Google Earth

Is there a way to link FS2004 to Google Earth? I'm using Windows 10.
  13. Thanks, Tom. Very interesting, & explains a lot. Great find & share.
  14. Indeed, just try it, obviously after backing up either the whole sim (copy & paste), or just the required files. No issues with the registry at all, by the way. Copy & pasting FS2004 (modded) works perfectly.
  15. Indeed, Bernard. true words! I have a complete fresh FS2004 install on a portable drive, so it's easy for me to install/reinstall. I also have 8 different unique themed installs of FS2004 on my laptop as well. I've been using Windows 10 (Home 64bit) for many years now, without ANY issues at all, & I'll be updating to Windows 11 next month. I'm still not sure that I understand why anyone would still run an obsolete operating system such as XP. Surely it's preferable to have an updated OS for safety & security reasons? In any case, an old OS is most definitely not optimized for modern day computer hardware. Just a very basic explanation of the differences between 32bit & a 64bit OS.. A 32bit OS can only address a total 4GB RAM, that includes your PC's RAM as well as your GPU's RAM. A 64bit OS does not have these limitations, so running a 32bit program, such as FS2004 in a 64bit environment is quite preferable, as the PC has more headroom to operate.
  16. Indeed, & those patches & nocd are needed for FS2004 to work in Windows 10. I'm not sure as to who is misinformed, but... A service update (9.1) was released on 10 June 2004, that included over 160 bridges missing or wrongly displayed in the original version, with several other corrections and performance improvements. The Microsoft Flight Simulator Team is pleased to announce a product update for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight. In response to customer feedback and Product Support information, the update addresses performance improvements and content updates. Update Enhancements Addressed slow frame rates for flights repeatedly in and out of a common area. Frame rate decreases have been corrected by fixes to Autogen scenery behavior and memory allocation. Addressed product stability issues that were due to changes of season in particular airport environments. Users will experience stable and consistent behavior when changing the time and season across any of the airports at any level of scenery detail. Addressed additional product stability issues tied to various features throughout the product. Addressed issues with configuration file updates to make sure all option changes are reflected during subsequent launches. Restored support for 19 meter digital elevation data as was supported in Flight Simulator 2002. Content Updates The update includes over 160 bridge models to replace missing bridges. These new bridges will appear at all scenery settings of normal and higher. Kennedy Airport (KJFK) features new autogen objects to enhance the high detailed scenery and terrain for the airport and surrounding area. Virtual Student Pilots completing their first solo flights will correctly receive Solo Certificates for their accomplishments. To determine if you need the Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (UPDATE): Run Flight Simulator 2004. Click Fly Now! Press ALT to display the menu bar. Click About Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Help menu. Check the version number in the About Microsoft Flight Simulator dialog box. If the version number is 9.0 we recommend installing the update. After updating, the version number for Flight Simulator 2004 will be 9.1.
  17. I was going to suggest deleting the fs9.cfg then restarting the sim, as FS2004 will create a new cfg file on restarting.. sorry I saw this post now, after you uninstalled both copies. It would have been nice to have kept a copy. Normally, in a case of a copied install, payware addons would often need to be reinstalled, as they stick stuff into the PC's registry. Also, if there was a payware plane set up as in the startup flight, there could have been a problem, as the PC's registry is normally not able to read a freshly copied sim with a payware plane as a start flight. By the way, without the FS9.1 patch & update, the sim WILL crash in Windows 10. Also the sim must not be installed in it's default Program Files folder.
  18. It's still active. The last FS2004 new aircraft listed was a week ago. https://www.avsimrus.com/f/fs2004-aircrafts-40/ https://www.avsimrus.com/files.phtml has always been one of my usual 'go to' sim sites, & has a collection of unusual unique aircraft.

  20. Great stuff. I have all their stuff, compiled into a single library, making it easy to add to members of our local Virtual Flying club.. Cape Virtual.
  21. PM me with your email, I might have it for you..
  22. Windows 10 protects the Program Files folder, making it VERY difficult to edit or change any of the files therein, hence installing FS2004 into the PC's root directory. FS2004, in Windows 10, for me, seems to run smoother. What other problems have you had?
