1. In normal PC mode, I run FS2020 at almost all ultra or top end of the settings. I have just bought an HP Reverb and I am very impressed with the improvement over my now redundant Quest. But I am having a bit of trouble fettling the settings in VR mode. Any recommendations welcome, but not too techy as my old brain cannot handle it.

Welcome to the world of VR :)

As for settings, each system will have a different setup. However, I do recommend going to YouTube and watching the videos there, and then gleaning what will work best for you and your system. Here are some that I have used

  2. Havent been on the sim for a while, went on tonight and you can barely see the Garmin screens in the darkness, even when you use the knobs. Old post i know but why are these things barely visible?

Typing from memory, but is there not a setting, while ingame in which you can adjust the brightness of the displays? I seem to remember there being one because at night the displays can be a tad bit bright. Course, I don't remember what the keystrokes were to adjust :)

  3. I don't have my copy of 2020 yet but was reading the thread. I can sympathise with you Dave, I've been there a few times, it drives you nuts and like you in the end after a format and a new istallation and tidy up you do feel better.

You promise yourself no more installing things I don't need... Then you do lol.

Side issue Tim is a good man, he has helped me numerous times with problems I've had, he goes out of his way to help when and where he can.

    Col.

    I agree 100% :) :) :)

  4. Ty that was great, think I may just buy the standard eddition.

As for new software, after tweaking both FS9 and FSX then getting XP11 it was a shock, and as you say a learning curve, still not got my head round Xplane.

I have my sims on a seperate hard drive so if I get this it will joing them. Thank you for the links they were just what I was looking for, the standard will keep me going for a long time yet lol.

Edit: Came back to add I just bought the standard disk version.

    Col.

I would humbly suggest you NOT buy the standard but opt in now and get one of the other versions. I bought the standard then a year later, wanted a couple of the other planes that only came with the deluxe version.

I had (foolishly) thought that MS would give me a break on the cost because all I was doing was upgrading. WRONG!!! lol, they charged me full price. Just some free advice :)

  5. I noticed that when I click on the Ready for TO configuration on the tablet of the BAe 146, that I still have to wait for the engines to spool up one by one and this takes like 3 minutes or so. Is there a way to have it in a state where the engines are already fully spooled up and ready immediately when I start from the gate? Shouldn't the engines be fully spooled up and ready for throttle input by default in a Ready for TO configuration?

I think it's in the realism settings. Mine is set to easy (not realistic) and I have yet to start my engines, etc. It is always at the end of the runway waiting for me :)

  6. I'm happy you got it sorted, good man... you may want to look into making a disk image of your setup once all set up and running to your liking... that way you can just load the disk image instead of having to load every pice of software...... saves time too......

I am working on that portion as I type, lol

Going to use Macrium, Tim posted that he uses it. Going to give it a shot.

My one question with it is (I am getting the free version), can I use it to create a rescue thumb drive that will allow me to restore from my image?

  7. Ok so it's a software issue, at least you have narrowed it right down.... lets hope a win10 updates don't set you back.... good luck David....

Yep, it was indeed a software problem.

At the end, I had made some changes that affected (somehow??) my internet speed to about 6/MPS, at that point I knew I had to reformat. So I backed up my important files and started over.

After I was up again and reloading everything, I found that my Internet speed was indeed what Xfinity said they had increased it too (from 600/sec to 800/sec). I was never hitting those speeds, averaging around 400 or so, still fast). Did a speed test was hit 895/sec.

Guess I needed to reformat a while ago :)

Big thanks to EVERYONE who helped me on this project!!! I do appreciate all of the suggestions that were made.

Just did a flight from London City airport to Heathrow, was smooth, and looking good!!

  8. Hey

I am downloading addon msfs (free aircfat) and install them in the community folder as described on YouTube .

but Some planes work and some don't.

I noticed that there are zip files of different sizes from 20mb to 300mb and more with a different folder structure.

    1. How to make all planes work.

    2. Can I combine (for example, adapt the cockpit of another aircraft to an aircraft that does not have a cockpit)

I apologize for the quality of my English.

    Thanks

All you need to do is to unzip one plane (or mod) into the Community Folder. Do not place anything else into the folder that got created.

You cannot take files from one folder and put them into another.

I suggest you get the program MSFS Add on Manager. It is very useful and will make things a LOT easier for you :)

  9. No, I meant ENable hyperthreading.

Interesting about the device manager thing. I've never heard of that happening. How did you notice that? That's certainly a weird one...

Not sure of the how, but I feel that is the problem. It does not refresh itself in Safe Mode. I have unplugged USB devices, still has not helped!! Not sure what else to do except, (1) ignore it or (2) reinstall

  10. The first thing that stood out is that your graph shows only 8 threads, but it's a 16 thread processor. Presumably you disabled hyperthreading?

Also from the graph, you can see that the main thread is on the eighth core, by looking at the nominal core usage. On that core, you can also clearly see the spikes which line up at roughly 3 second intervals. I've made a quick markup of the graph to highlight the spikes and thread usage:

I don't know if your problem could be scheduling issue, because hyperthreading is disabled, but it's easy enought to test.

    Try the following:

    1. Enable hyperthreading. If that doesn't work,

    2. Completely remove your anti-virus (hail mary if the above doesn't work).

Hyperthreading had already been disabled and I have removed Norton and am running only Windows Defender. While doing some more reading I discovered what possible could be the culprit, however, fixing it has not been easy (suggestions are welcome!!)

I noticed that my Device Manager is cycling about every 3 seconds looking for new devices (sound familiar). I have tried to disable it using the services.msc (found in a web article) but that did not do any good.

I am looking for a way to disable it searching for new devices, so if anyone knows how to do that it would be greatly appreciated!

  11. Yes, resintalling the OS is quite a time investment!

Have you tried, just for troubleshooting purposes at least, to completely remove the Anti-Virus?

If that doesn't work, would you mind making another video? It would be helpful if it shows:

    1. Task manager in the foreground

1a. Task manager on the Performance tab

1b. Task manager update speed on High (go to view-> Update Speed -> High)

1c. Showing CPU logical cores (right click on the cpu graph -> Change Graph to -> Logical Processors

    2. Sim the background

It would be interesting to see the CPU activity when this happens. Maybe it spikes, or maybe it dies down... we may learn something either way.

Edit: Also, you are running without any mods right? I should have started with this question...

    And here is the video-

Also, I had uninstalled Norton, rebooted, running with MS Defender, which right away detected MSFS as bad, lol.. Had to allow it.

  12. I re-installed Windows 10 Pro earlier this year by downloading the latest installation media tool and creating a USB flash drive to install Windows. The install includes the all latest updates and patches, so it's fully up to date and you're good to go in no time: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Hi Tim, if I go that route (which for me would be the a last resort, would I not need to wipe the C drive first? That is actually the hard part. I can do a backup, but I am leery at time of them :)
