  13. FS2002 Scenery--Phan Thiet

FS2002 Scenery--Phan Thiet, Vietnam. A model of Phan Thiet Airfield, circa 1970. Phan Thiet AF was located atop high bluffs overlooking the South China Sea. It was home to several US Army units including the 101st Airborne. Landing at Phan Thiet could be very hazardous, due to numerous obstructions in the flight path and strong downdrafts. Therefore, pilots were advised to land only on runway 07 and take off only on runway 25. By George Knowles.

  16. FS2002 Scenery--Dak Seang

FS2002 Scenery--Dak Seang. A model of Dak Seang Airfield / Special Forces Camp. This primitive outpost was located high in the mountains near the Cambodian border, about 15 km north of Ben Het. It was widely regarded as the most remote and vulnerable Special Forces camp in South Vietnam. It was frequently attacked by the NVA and Viet Cong. The name Dak Seang means "river of blood." The 1400 foot clay runway at Dak Seang was suitable only for helicopters, C-7 Caribous and other short-field capable aircraft. In November 1970, Dak Seang was turned over to the ARVN Rangers. 17. FS2002 Scenery--Ben Het

FS2002 Scenery--Ben Het. A model of Ben Het Airfield / Special Forces Camp. This remote base was located in the mountains near the Ho Chi Minh Trail, about eight miles west of Dak To Airfield. Ben Het was almost constantly under attack throughout the war. In 1969, a battle between US and NVA armored units was fought here and several NVA tanks were destroyed. Tank battles were a rare event in Vietnam. The PSP runway at Ben Het was 1,500' long with a helicopter landing pad at each end. Consequently, only C-7 Caribous and other short-field capable aircraft could land there. In December 1970, Ben Het Airfield was turned over to the ARVN Rangers. By George Knowles.

  18. FS2002 Scenery--Ban Me Thuot

FS2002 Scenery--Ban Me Thuot. A model of Ban Me Thuot East Airfield in the late 1960s. It replaces the default "Buonmathuot" airport, which is just a simple runway and a generic control tower. North Vietnamese troops attacked Ban Me Thuot in 1965 and 1972 but they were repulsed with heavy losses. In March 1975, however, Ban Me Thuot was surrounded by three NVA divisions and quickly overrun. After the Battle of Ban Me Thuot, South Vietnam's armed forces collapsed and fled in panic. Within a few weeks, Saigon was captured and the Vietnam War came to an end. By George Knowles.

  19. FS2002 Scenery--Vung Tau

FS2002 Scenery--Vung Tau. A model of Vung Tau Airfield, a major US Army facility om the Cape St. Jacques Peninsula about 60 km SE of Saigon. Vung Tau is a seaside resort city. It was a popular in-country R&R center during the Vietnam War. Surrounded by high hills, Vung Tau was fabled for its beautiful scenery and mild climate. (Unfortunately, the default FS2002 terrain mesh is flat.) This scenery was designed for FS2002 but it should work in FS2004. By George Knowles.

  24. FS2002 Scenery--Kontum

FS2002 Scenery--Kontum. A model of Kontum Airfield in the central highlands of Vietnam. Microsoft neglected to include this important Vietnamese city in Flight Simulator. Kontum is a strategic highway junction about 40 miles north of Pleiku. It was attacked and briefly occupied by NVA troops during the Tet Offensive of 1968. Kontum was attacked again in May 1972, but ARVN forces successfully defended it against overwhelming odds with the aid of intensive bombing by the United States. Unfortunately the city was virtually destroyed during the battle. By George Knowles.

  25. FS2002 Scenery--Dalat/Camly

FS2002 Scenery--Dalat/Camly. A model of Dalat / Camly Airfield, Vietnam, as it was in 1969. Located in a mountainous region about 100 miles northeast of Saigon, Dalat / Camly was the headquarters of the 362nd Signal Company. The model is intended to replace the default Camly airport. The default airport has only a single runway, whereas Dalat / Camly airfield had two parallel 4400 foot runways in 1969. Also, like most small FS airports, the default airport has no buildings, parking ramps or other details. By George Knowles.
