  1. This is the message I get then the installation crashes:

    INSTALLATION FOR FSX-SE

    Setup Path ="C\Program Files[x86]/Steam\steamapps\commom\FSX"

Checking version of the FSX-SE EXE:

...Version 10.0.63003.0 [Need at least 10.0.62607.0]

!!Warning!! This version of FSX-SE is later than any known by this FSUIPC

There may be problems. Please check for a later version of FSUIPC

    Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect

Are you trying to install the latest version from the FSUIPC website?

  2. Ok I see what you're saying about "the Insider" program. My next question is what do they want to know about me and who will they share it with?

I know I'm old! But I know way too many people personally whose "private" information has exposed them to hoaxes.

And I know one woman who suffered serious ID Theft and had to reapply for credit cards, voting, etc. It took years to get her credit ratings and retirement benefits straightened out!! So I'm loathe to put a lot out there especially if it involves tracking my touches and the info I access.

Being cautious is always good practice. There is nothing stopping you from creating an account with a fake name that you could use for this. I know one person who signs up as Mark Twain or other historical people when they don't want to give anything away. You also don't need to provide much personal info either. And there are options for two factor authentication to help keep others out as well.

Most severe ID theft involves far more than just getting access to someone's Microsoft account. Far too often the hacked accounts you hear about in the news were ones where the same password was used on multiple accounts, or the password was something simple.

  3. Yes, that's exactly the site I'm talking about! I just went there again and they once again wanted me to join X-Box. I will restate again as I said before "Well, it's 6 January and I haven't seen any indication of a release.

BTW: When I try to get "Insider Information" from Microsoft, who I've been registered with for years, they ask me to join X-Box. Since I don't join X-Box they forward me to other products and try to get me to open a game charge account and when I won't do that try to sell me other products. I find no info "Insider" or otherwise or even a mention of MSFS2020 at their site.

So, is FSMS2020 a rental or an X-Box property? Is it Vaporware to put more people on X-Box? etc. "[/b]

My question is still the same.

If you want to get access to the Insider site you will need to join the Xbox Insider program. This is similar to the Windows and Office Insider programs, among others, that Microsoft runs for pre-release access to software. Also, Microsoft has moved all of their gaming related products and services, which includes sims, for both Xbox consoles and PC, under the Xbox brand. Thus the need for the Xbox Insider program. There is no need to sign up for any subscription for this either.

And as has been stated there, is no specific release date beyond sometime this year. Given that the sim is still in the alpha stage (yes, people outside MS do have access to the alpha build and are testing it), summer would be the earliest it should be expected, and more likely fall. Microsoft has also said it will be available for standalone purchase, like FSX was, as well as through their Xbox Gamepass for PC (think Netflix for PC games).

  4. Prepar3D sells for $199.99, will Microsoft price FS2020 the same

I think the new flight sim is going to be released like P3d, like academy, profesional, profesional plus...

P3D has always been a commercial product aimed at commercial and professional markets, not home entertainment. A far better indicator would be the current prices of PC games, which would be in the $60-$80 range (depending on country) for the standalone purchase option. Or you can go the Xbox Gamepass route and get the sim along with plenty of other games for $5/month (current intro price, could go up $10/month like the console side).

  5. I have no problem paying for DLC (with a price vs. quality vs. need basis for each title) but will the likes of Just Flight and their developers have access to the SDK and the licence which will allow them to develop and release their typical mid-price range of add-ons? We shall see!

The flight sim community has essentially been using the DLC model since we'll before the term was coined.

An SDK has already been confirmed and Asobo is working with many of the current flight sim add-ons developers.

  6. I think you will find you will be paying for everything just like you did in past sims and more. Ground scenery, we really need to see the "entire world" and "up close" and then understand what options will be there for add-on developers to enhance poorer areas. We are only seeing select areas from select distances till now with select aircraft. Don't rule out ground scenery like Orbx just yet.

I'm not ruling it out and do expect add-ons for airports, cities etc. that aren't covered by photogrammetry to exist. It's the larger scenery texture, mesh and land class ones that I don't think we will see as much of. Again, most people are still expecting pay for add-ons.

  7. People are expecting this sim to be pay once, fly away, no more to pay be it add-ons or anything else as MSFS will have it all and offer it all.

    Watch this space imo.

That is a bit of an exaggeration. I think most people are fully expecting that add-ons will have a cost. When it comes to scenery, however, the included scenery may well be enough for many people. There will likely be little need for Orbx's regions and global products, and similar ones from other developers, for example.

  8. Ok thank you. Although I’ve seen definite improvement setting the correct value - for me - in FSX. most other tweaks I’m hard pressed to see much of a difference.

I guess I’ll just leave it alone for FS9.

Did you try leaving that tweak out entirely? Many jump straight into adding it, and recommending it, thinking that it's required.

  9. Ah ok. Must be what the program listed as ‘cores’.

Still, worse performance compared to the improvements with FSX.

    Different coding I guess.

FSX SP1 and later have limited multi threading support, so can use more than one core. FS9 is a single thread program and only uses one core at a time.

In general setting the affinity manually is really only needed for FSX if there are conflicts with the sim and other applications being run on the same core. It will use all cores on its own without any outside intervention.

  10. There is no limit to the number of times it can be installed. However, you may need to contact the product activation support line if you have regularly moved it between computers or upgraded hardware. Microsoft's product activation is about making sure the software is only installed the number of computers it is licensed for at any given moment, not limiting the total number of times it can be installed.
  11. Asobo has already said they are working on supporting VR in the sim. However, they have also said it isn't just going to be slapped on and they want to make sure it actually works for a flight sim. The sim did originally grow out of a MS Hololens project they had worked on with MS, so they are familiar with VR.

Personally, I agree with the points about prioritizing the fundamental features of a flight sim first over VR. VR still feels too much like a stopgap on the road to something better, perhaps some sort of AR/MR.

  12. PC first for the full launch? Or as closed Beta, which it is already?

Both Asobo and XBox Game Studios have declined to comment on the full launch date, pricing/subscription etc., stating that those are COMMERCIAL decisions and not DEVELOPER decisions.

In other words, MICROSOFT has the final say and NOTHING the developers have said on those subjects so far is concrete.

Mark, the Live AI is just part of the wider streaming content issue which even XBox Game Studios are unsure about at this stage - even if the xCloud servers can handle it, will enough customers have a suitable connection AND be willing to sign up for it?

Again, Microsoft themselves have explicitly stated that it is launching in 2020 on the PC first. Sure, exact pricing hasn't been given yet, but it will be available as a standalone purchase as well as through Xbox Game Pass, just like all games in XGP currently are. From an interview with Microsoft Flight Simulator head Jorg Neumann:

Yes, Microsoft Flight Simulator will come to Xbox consoles at some point, Neumann said, and it will be an Xbox Game Pass title on that platform, just like its Windows 10 version will be. And, yes, the game will be available either as part of XGP or as a standalone purchase.

But the game's announced "2020" launch window is for Windows 10, not Xbox consoles, and there's no indication of whether the console version will have specific limitations. Might it require online streaming? Might it require an Xbox One X minimum? Microsoft isn't saying.

"We honestly don't have a date for Xbox, otherwise we might've said something," Neumann told Ars Technica. "Is there a parallel effort related to Xbox [development]? Yeah, but it's very modest at this point. Our first and foremost topic is getting the simulation right, then do as much as we can from the [closed beta] feedback
