  1. Tom, I have found that 32 bit textures can be a problem when mixed with DXT. And mixing mipped and non-mipped can be a disaster 20 miles away. But that's the FS9 story, always waiting to trip you up in a new way.
  2. I agree about the mipmaps. I also find that 32 bit aircraft textures are sometimes a problem; stick with DXT1 or DXT3 textures.
  3. A particular plane? All planes? From close up, or far?
  4. I have had a similar spectacular display in the sky, but in stripes of red and yellow. It happened now and again at a particular airport, not every time, and eventually I tracked it down to a faulty signage texture.
  5. Without Ultimate Terrain both FS9 and FSX are just games, not flight simulators. With UT you can look down and see the lake that is shaped like a banana, just like it is on the chart.
  6. Caphavoc, I rejected that idea as I already had Detect Crash and Damage enacted. Then I had an FS9 thought, turned it off, and then on again. And it worked. So thanks for that.
  7. I am not saying it is a float plane; it is an amphibian. If I place it on land by taking it out of slew mode then it happily sits there on its wheels and does not jump at all, so I do not have to revise wheel contact points. If I do the same to place it on water it jumps. The mystery is why it jumps now, when it did not do so a year ago.
  8. Out of curiosity, was that FS9 and FSX with or without Ultimate Terrain?
  9. Tom, I figured out why it happens but not how to fix it. When I use slew mode above land or water it is at the height that allows it to then drop gently down onto the wheels when I press Y. This, of course is at a height far higher than is required for it to drop gently down into water and use the floats. Changing the floats contact points do not change this "hover" height as it doesn't know until it drops whether it is heading for land or water. The floats-only version "hovers" with the floats already partially submerged, which is what made me realise this wheel height problem. So when I press Y the amphib version drops too far and bounces back up. As to WHY it is only now acting up in this way, well, I have no idea.
  10. Having written that I realised that I hadn't tried out other float planes. So I did, and discovered that it was not true of them all. Which means that it is a plane problem not water, and in particular a problem with the Aerosoft Beaver. And even more particularly with the Beaver amphib with a modern cockpit. Maybe the setting for where the waterline should be on the floats? Though as I said before, I haven't changed anything like that so why it should be happening now.........
  11. Any ideas on why, when I select a previously saved flight involving a float plane parked at the dock on water, I find the plane leaping into the air and throwing itself around the sky? Or the same thing happening when I land on water and then turn off the engine? This is happening with planes that I have previously had no problem with, so is it my water texture setting? Or something else to do with the water? I haven't meddled with the planes in any way so it should be water related and not the planes.
  12. More info required. Did it only once? Several times? At one airport? Every airport? One plane? All planes? And anything more you can think of. Probably is a texture problem.
  13. And thanks for the appreciation!
  14. email is best rogwen at rogers dot com And those who have sent me personal messages here on flightsim; I never get around to looking at them except maybe once a year.
  15. Aha! Lets see how Hinckley looks.
  16. Yep, Google Earth is where I get building sizes from, which beats pacing them out in the rain and snow! But their pics are now few and far between compared with a year or so ago.
  17. Well to do anything I need photos. No info means no output.
  18. I am out of photos of all the airfields I have ever visited in Canada, Alaska, England, West Indies, Idaho, and even Cyprus. Plus download numbers have been sagging with disinterest. Plus I seem to be bored with it all too. So if someone has a cute local airfield and a camera (not an airport, I never flew to airports and never made scenery of them) and can stimulate my interest then let me know. Maybe it is a passing phase. Or maybe not.
  19. I may have joked about the subject in terms of a pub but that doesn't mean I am not serious about keeping FS9 alive and well, and in a place (or places) where it can be found and seen by as many folks as possible. Which means, for me, the already-known websites rather than splinter groups. After 600 or so airfields and floats bases for FS9 I would hope that my interest is beyond doubt.
  20. Makes sense to me Nels. Better to have one known pub selling beer than 10 hidden ones.
  21. One thing I should have added to the description: 3 of the float bases used for the Grumman Goose AI are good to go as posted months ago, and these are Port McNeill CAM8, Echo Bay CAA7, and Alert Bay CBC3. The other three will be posted in a few days and are Whaletown CAW9, Surge Narrows CAG9, and Alert Bay CBC3. Roger
  22. thanks for that raycar. excuse me if I don't readily respond to praise, it's the comments and emails regarding things to be solved that really get my attention.
