  1. What da heck dem brown circles be on da VFR moving map? I've looked all over but no hits.
  2. No Pilot Assist, but thanks. This happens most often when I load a saved "enroute" flight. All was honky-dory when flight was saved. Upon reloading flight and while in "pause" mode, I've checked if all AP settings still copacetic before un-pausing. Soon as I un-pause, the roller-coaster begins.
  3. For starters, to all those who answered (or peeked at) my "sad story" a few weeks ago, thanks again. Since that cataract operation, I have returned to this great hobby with a vengeance and learning more every day. So much beautiful scenery for low level VFR, but many of us also like the long haul hi- alt IFR stuff and that is what's presently bugging me. After much gooooogling, seems I'm not the only soul with this dilemma. Most times, especially after pausing or using an enroute saved flight, autopilot acts like a spoiled child. Worse case...the aircraft (Cessna Longitude) decides it would like to do a stall. I' usually high enough to recover but then it doesn't respond to selected heading or altitude. It sure takes the fun out of fun. At times it will just go bananas on its own. Now this sim has been on-market 2 years, give or take. Is this an original prob or was it caused by a patch? But more important, is there a flight sim doctor with a cure? Thanks in advance bud
  4. Always the Best!!! Even though my entry date shows Mar 2005, I joined this forum years before the turn of the century. When Nels went with some new format, a bunch of us oldies got relegated to that 2005 join date. That isn't a big deal, but what is...the fantastic help I have received over the years. I'm spending so much time getting acquainted with my much-improved eyesight and MFSF 2020 that I failed to peek in at this forum for a few days. I am having some probs but am able to solve most. One that is giving me fits is RUDDER on my Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X. It worked for a short period on Cessna 172 and B-737 when I took off AUTORUDDER. Now, no matter what I try It doesn't work. I'm going to look around at some more threads concerning this issue before crying for help. Thanks to all who answered and viewed.
  5. Thanks again. Right not I'm having some issues with 2020 mating up with my Hotas Thrustmaster. Have a few ideas to try today and if they fail, I'll be back for more help.
  6. Thanks a bunch, and I mean that. After reading your responses yesterday evening, the wife and I decided to DL from Microsoft. Seems they could simplify the DL for us dummies but we wrangled through it. After you select "Windows Version" they need to quit mentioning X-box as it kept making us wonder if we were buying the X-box version. Maybe it's just us. Anyway, it took about 2 hours, 30 mins to DL, which was less than expected. It was late and only had time to enjoy some scenery around Corcovado. Once more, my gratitude.
  7. I'm finally ready to purchase the MSFS 2020 Premium Deluxe, but after reading so much negativity in reviews (mainly Amazon), I'm reluctant to chance it. Seems too many virtual pilots had probs with no recourse. I'd love some sage advice. I REALLY want to fly again. I'm also at a loss as from whom do I purchase from. Seems the consensus on this forum is Steam. I've never purchased anything from them and MSFS 2020 would probably be it. My wife trusts Amazon and she'll most likely steer me there. I'm only adding the following, so you'll know I'm an old dude who isn't up to snuff on all the latest tech. Hankies ready? When I was six (1941), a childhood accident robbed me of vision in my left eye. Now, in my latter eighties, a cataract in the right eye had worsened over time. An earlier operation was not advisable, as. if it went south, I could be without any usable vision, so we waited until I could barely see at all. Couldn't read instrument panels for several years so had to give up flight-simming, although I did keep up with this forum and its latest files. This past Monday I had the cataract removed. My, what a difference. I'm aching to see MSFS 2020 on the following new puter...parts selected by me but assembled (excellently) by my wife. Before Monday past, she has been my eyes for close-up tasks. 8. I think some plumber might have your flight sim.
  9. (Nor-leens) NOT! We Crescent City cousins pronounce it more like "N'awlins. By da way, howzha mom en em?
  10. That would be the Okefenokee Swamp, mostly in southeast Georgia but spills over into north Florida. I'm not a big movie buff, but think it is basically where the movie "Deliverance" with Burt Reynolds was filmed. Hope Nels doesn't mind us drifting from the theme of aviation.
  11. Born and raised in "the Big Easy", as a youngster I always wondered why they put emergency brakes on cars. Everything is flat. Except for a small man-made hill in Audubon Park, all else is level ground...and mostly below sea level. More seriously. Think about all the high locales in this...or any...country. When it rains or snows up in the mountains, as liquid it goes downhill through valleys, waterfalls, etc. With it comes topsoil which settles in nearer the oceans, and, in many cases, forms the coastal plains. Except for storms and tidal movements, it's mostly a tranquil area of water shared with flatland. I remember an article in a National Geographic magazine 50 or more years ago. It showed depictions of how the U.S. gulf coast probably appeared back a few million years. There was no land generally south of a Houston-Mobile line. Lake Pontchartrain was most likely part of the northern Golfo de Mexico. Alluvial soil flowing down the length of the Mississippi River year after year, created what is now the swamps of South Louisiana, including the city of New Orleans. Man-made efforts in the last hundred or so years has reversed this natural occurrence by diverting spring snowmelt through two spillways and creating canals through swampland for industrial purposes. Look up Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, a.k.a. as Mr. Go. Don't mess with Mother Nature!
  12. I'm an optimist so I see things getting better. But can't help recalling the following. "I was feeling bad. A friend told me to cheer up, things could get worse. So I cheered up and they did.
  13. Merry Christmas to all...and lets start the New Year taming Covid-19.
  14. Many years ago, folks on this forum gave this dummy the courage (and help) to build his own computer. Since then I've built 3 or 4 or more. I've also had "too many to remember" problems over the years solved with the assistance of numerous forum members. My join date shows 2005 but it was really before the turn of the century, and that equates to many, mamy queries from moi. They have made my flight simming much more enjoyable. So, a great big 'mucho gracias" from this old dude.
  15. I spent much of my flightsim life hand-flying the B-727. I felt more familiar with that instrument panel than I do with my Honda Odyssey. I won't settle for being a passenger. When it comes to a motorized vehicle, I'm a control freak.
  16. Back in 1957, I remember taking a Pilot Weather Briefing Course in my early days with the U.S. Weather Bureau, long before the days of youtube videos. In one of the diagrams, it showed how different terrain near the ground affected the surrounding air. Certain surfaces and conditions create more or less updrafts and downdrafts. For instance, if you were landing during a normal afternoon and you passed over such features as water, uneven surfaces, forests, cornfields, snowfields, different shades of road coatings etc., the air rising from these various surfaces would all differ. A dark surface such as black-soil would be much more pronounced than a snowfield. Hope I explained this simple enough.
  17. Wow! EIGHTY-NINE. Good to hear (at85) that I'm not the oldest old geezer on flight sim.
  18. Maybe this has been bounced around already, but, if so, I missed it. Does MS intend to offer the CD version here in the states, and when?
  19. Thanks doering1. To borrow the words from a Maurice Chevalier/Hermonie Gingold song, "Ah yes, I remember it well".
  20. Started around 1985, give or take a year.Think it was called Sub-Logic or something like that. I remember heading south from KORD to look at any scenery. Only thing visible was green until I reached the Gulf of Mexico, then blue.. In one of the later versions I spent oodles of time trying to improve KMSY, my home town field where I briefly worked for the National Weather Service. Created buildings, improved ramps, added fuel storage tanks, etc. Even closed most of it in with page-wire fence. What a waste of time. I think all it did was give me crummier frame rates. Should have used that time reading some Tolstoy novels.
