Latest Upgrade
budreiser replied to budreiser's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I usually only use the 20 but did them all on 40 so as to show the final frame with the pale blue extraneous path. Also, don't think 30 is an option. -
Latest Upgrade
budreiser replied to budreiser's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Update DL went smooth as silk, as have all upgrades since I purchased in Aug 2022. In my above post, I didn't have the time to mention any of the new problems this last upgrade has created. My almost always go-to vehicle is the B787-10, of which a nice chunk of this DL applied to. There are some pros that, at first use, are neat . Also some cons I hope can be rectified without too much hassle. Prime at this moment deals with the flight path. All seems fine until well into the flight. On the ND (navigation display), the magenta line (flight path) is truncated as you near your destination. It reappears for a brief period from MNSTR to SLIDD then is again cut off. If flown to manually, AP refuses to lock on. At rwy 29 KMSY, the flgt path becomes pale blue and displays some weird patterns beyond your destination. Hope the attached pics help explain better than I tried in words. In any event, it sure does take the joy out of an AP approach. -

What a bust! For starters, I should have stuck to a familiar neighborhood, but tried a flight from Tangiers to Stuttgart. Things went fairly smooth, but not perfect into Spain, but then it went into the pits. I wish I had the time right now to explain more, but other duties call. It is a disappointment after waiting so long for B787 improvements. -
Just installed 1.33.8.0 Hope it fixed mucho, especially in B787.

Mr. Zippy. I have gleaned so much from you during the FSX years. A gigantic THANK YOU! Please, get you a new puter so you can give us some of your wisdom on FS2020. I quit thinking about the kids and grandkids inheritance. They'll just blow your hard-earned loot on non-flight simming games and other things we wouldn't approve of. I built me a nice rig this time and didn't scrimp like I did in the past. Back around1983, with Sub Logic, I never dreamed I would be enjoying something as much as this. At my age, its better than sex.

After flying to and from all the major (and some minor) airfields in the U.S., I decided it was time to spend more time across the ponds. Yesterday I took a trip from Nice, France to Casablanca, Morocco. Really neat, even from 40k. Sunset was stunning as I descended over Rabat. Hope I didn't bore you but now we'll get to the meat of the matter. I don't recall if anyone else posted this issue. Maybe it only happens on my puter. I've noticed this before but couldn't be certain, but yesterday left no doubt. When my aircraft is below contrail level activation, there are no contrails of higher-flying aircraft. When above that meteorological level, even aircraft well below are leaving a vapor trail. On my flight yesterday, at 40k over the southern coast of Spain, I zoomed in on a contrail of a craft that appeared way the heck down, and that it was. It landed on the NW-SE rwy at Malaga, then turned off after braking while continuing to emit vapor. As stated, maybe it's just me, but I'd love to hear from others seeing this or disputing such. Thanks in advance.

Ditto! Especially the line "Despite my profile showing I have been on this forum since 2005, I have been here a lot longer than that". Ah yes! I remember Captain Slarty from the early days of this forum. Hope I don't get a warning point for mentioning his name. And, one more thing which may have already been mentioned above. I'd rather have no replies to a query than a bunch leading me in the wrong direction.

THRUSTMASTER T.FLIGHT HOTAS X
budreiser replied to Miahflyer's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
I don't have a screenshot of "default"so cannot compare, but have been using this without many issues. I almost always fly the B787-10 so it may not work for other aircraft: . -
Windlayers, how to?
budreiser replied to ster100's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Meteorologically speaking, it's probably rare if ever where surface winds are going to be more than winds aloft. For instance, let's take a winter day after a frontal passage. Winds may be, let's say 10 to 15 knots on the surface. As you increase in altitude, wind speed, and likely direction, will change, either veering or backing, depending on your position in the weather system. As you get upstairs, especially above 10k feet, you may start experiencing 100 to 200 or more knots. During WWII, the Japanese referred to these as the divine winds but are properly called the jetstream. -
Is it just me?

Thanks sport, will look into it. -
I've found thunder & lightning mentioned in past posts, but I have yet to experience either event. What am I doing wrong? What do I have turned off (or on) to not let me experience these events? Being a retired National Weather Service person, the weather in MS fltsims have always received special attention. I remember thunder & lightning in FSX and possibly earlier versions, but so far in MSFS2020 it hasn't happened. I intentionally set flgtplns to go thru wicked frontal boundaries without any noise or flashing. Traversing deep reds (which really indicates mucho precipitation) should have, after all these months, shown indications of electrical activity. Jupiter Pluvius is evident, but Zues is nowhere to be seen.

Marketplace msfs2020 bugfree?
budreiser replied to ster100's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Whenever I encounter something goofy in MSFS2020 (and YES, there are many) I digress back to the early to mid 80's. "We've come a long way, baby". Remember the square clouds, the three or four available colors, the three or four available aircraft, the three or four available airports. You can't call them "the good old days". The world ain't perfect. -
I like to visit many airports (mainly N. America) with the B787-10. Although it does not affect my enjoyment of the sim, it would be nice if the Jetways not only worked all the time, but were also attached to the terminals. Good example, KABQ below:

On Final, yet high in the sky.
budreiser replied to budreiser's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 General Discussion
Thanks to all replies. To Tim, I do exactly that, and, as much as possible, try to select an ILS rwy for arrival, if available. Also, when available, I'll select SIDS & STARS that make the most sense and not ones which add huge doglegs to your flightpath. -

Correction... My next ATC descent permission (from 11k) is on the downwind 19 km from KBOS 22L. Should have been...My next ATC descent permission (from 11k) is on the upwind 19 km from KBOS 22L. -
Aircraft in use...B787-10. Maybe not for everyone, but for me, MSFS 2020 ATC is egregious at bringing me in a position to capture the GS. I don't remember this problem in earlier MS Flight Sims. For the past few months, I have been either requesting a decrease in altitude early enough from ATC or coming downstairs on my own...without ATC permission. This morning I thought I'd give ATC another chance to get it right. At 21k and well upwind on the downwind, ATC lets me down to 11k. My next ATC descent permission (from 11k) is on the downwind 19 km from KBOS 22L. Now that's a challenge in that big bird. Never captured the GS but did manage to dive down, land midway down the field and exit runway. I guess until Asobo (or whomever) does a fix, as Mr. Sinatra says...I'll do it "MY WAY".

GREAT! Thanks a bunch.

I guess I like to keep a browser screen at the ready for occasionally looking up things that come to mind while flying. ALT + ENTER knocks that out, I think.
-
Yes, and then said to myself, don't do dat you dummy. Never gave it much thought for a cure until you brought it up. Best I can come up with at the spur of the moment is perhaps sticking a little piece of Post-It note to cover the X. Not a great antidote but might make you stop and think for that critical brief moment.

B787-10 dropdown HUD
budreiser replied to budreiser's topic in MSFS 2020 Default Aircraft Discussion
Thanks Cavulife, but that CAMERA/COCKPIT CAMERA/TOGGLE HUD VIEW is probably for the MSFS 2020 HUD you can use for any aircraft and, I believe, is situated along the perimeters of your screen.. On the B787-10 (and more than likely on modern fighter aircraft) the HUD is part of the real aircraft. Check out the link: Boeing 787 Head-Up Display in detail - YouTube It is very useful, especially for us older dudes with fading eyesight, but at times you'd like it gone, and would be easier to click on/off with a keyboard assignment.
