  1. Congrats David, can you explain a little if the devices you mention are needed because it is a G2 or will they say improve a Quest2 as well, my Quest2 works great but resolution is probably inferior to G2. But I am lost technically on these areas. "Active 8K DisplayPort Repeater, DisplayPort 1.4 " what exactly do they do and again is that G2 specific?
  2. After 1.5 years of use with Class Echo from Shakeprint, I have to say that this little autopilot/plane manager device has been my constant companion on most IFR flights and has been a godsend to those if us that do not like fiddling with mice. It has performed flawlessly throughout and to prospective buyers I would add that the only twist in the story over the past year or two has been the difficulty of obtaining Mega 2560 Arduino boards. I learn new and interesting ways to use this little controller and with the full digital touchscreen interface it remains an absolute gem of a device at a very reasonable price. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/861158855/class-echo-microsoft-flight-simulator?click_key=b68f7f11753d38639f6baef59f92d30417ce2b08%3A861158855&click_sum=aa2cda1c&ref=shop_home_active_3&crt=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zu1NOyz3So. and this remains as a great intro video. Thx to mdamstel below for the youtube link.
  3. Doubt anyone seriously wants paper anymore! I kept all my real world approach plates when on FSX but now it is so much easier to pay Navdata and keep updated approach plates etc instead of mountains of maps, plates and thick paperback books of airport data. To fly long distance in N America meant carrying all kinds of s..t in the cockpit but after I retired flying then of course everything was put on IPADS. I was born way to early.
  4. Great video, I also remember doing flightsim on a very "basic' Sinclair ZX81 with the 16K memory expansion and a cassette player. It was great, it was the Timex 1000 I think, in the US, but I put the whole compter together over 3 nights, it came as a kit. I still have it!!
  5. thx,@davidc2, I had forgotten I already have that one on the computer.
  6. I have had to MSFS2020 shutdowns when I attempted fullscreen view from within windows so for now I am in windowed mode but as wide as it will go. Message said GPU overheating. Will be testing further.
  7. So far so good, about 20-30 minutes for install of update and things do seem to run smoother even with VR. So a pretty smooth update it seems.
  8. Don't forget the originator of this thread had a budget, the G2 is way more expensive than the Quest2 and the Quest3 is not going to offer a lot more if you check the specs. The only one close to his budget is the Quest2
  9. I am using the Oculus Quest2 and found the glasses issue a little annoying so bought the cheap lenses that attach with magnets to the original lenses--they really do work, just send a few bucks and an exact prescription, now headaches free VR and it really does open up a whole new world of FLightsim flying mainly in the VFR areas. I find it annoying not being able to access ATC commands from within VR so stay on VFR flights but it is amazing there. The Oculus Quest2 is very close to your budget.
  10. You may be reinventing the wheel, if you can do better than littlenavmap LNMP then you might have found it worthwhile, but the bar is high.
  11. J-P answered me right away and showed me that you just program MSFS to have your plane on the runway at the airport you with to practice approaches, then run through the simple setup and after you hold the brakes you are flying the approach. Lovely to have that option to be beamed up to a random point and practice approaches. Also very nice to know the designer cares about you getting it to function correctly. So I do look forward to a couple of videos specifically done on MSFS2020 but can strongly recommend this option as value for money.
  12. Having been very quickly impressed by the article on FSiPanel, I purchased the Standard edition to check it out. Some of my first impressions --- great potential for those of us that might be wanting to get more practice at serious IFR flying and using an FMC. My very first try resulted in the airliner going directly into a spin, so I then thought "oh wait how about the golden rule RTFM" so I actually read the manual. Next time I was unsure at what point into an MSFS flight to activate FSIPanel as the manual does not seem to be MSFS2020 specific and is very vague on that, (I have sent in to the designer a question). So I opened a flight plan into EGCC and then started FSiP and asked it to beam me up to long final. According to LNavMap I was showing to be on Finals but in fact I was over an open Ocean. SO I have sent a query in and at present as much as I see the potential of this program, I feel the website and Navdata (to which I do subscribe) needed to do some MSFS2020 specific Youtube videos instead of a rushed release as soon as the program was coded for MSFS2020. Now I accept it may be all due to my stupidity but the instructions do not say anywhere that I found about where you should be in MSFS2020 or indeed even if it needs to be opened first (I assume so). So some more specific videos would really help us amateurs. I have not used any this add-on in any of the other simulators where it has been available for some time so would appreciate some babying into MSFS2020. Overall I am quite excited to access the range of options and the number of aircraft it will work with so I am certainly keeping it and hoping for some answers soon. If anyone else is having better luck with it do let me know where and how you start from within MSFS. FYI I am using Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo with the program and could love to hear if anyone else is doing the same. JohnD
  13. I recently bought the Oculus Quest2 and find no problem with flying MSFS2020. But what I do find is that it is great with VFR flying in light aircraft where you can just fly, but if you want complex IFR it kind of defeats the purpose of the 3D fun and I prefer to use my Honeycomb controllers and Logitech instruments etc and do the Fir thatbway. But for sheer VFR graphics lovely.
  14. A couple of us are starting up and trying to do Wed 8pm Pacific Time for a DMR on 737 Brandmeister. This is just for Information only. We will try to monitor from about 7.55 until 8.10 and if we have a discussion going it can be mostly Flightsim but also Ham Radio stuff or flying experiences. I am using an Anyone 878 with my own hotspot Openspot 3 FYI. John VE7QJD. Set up is Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo and Echo autopilot and Logitech rudders. I fly any and all types but really like IFR in 737.
  15. Wednesday 8pm Pacific time DMR 737 ---check it out sometime on Brandmeister and while there are many ways to chat while you either fly or dream about the next item to purchase, Ham Radio DMR is just one and we might try to make it a Wed Net.
  16. FsSimRate is cute and like an autopilot for simrate, and I reprogrammed the manual simrate to F11 and F12 as I don't use those ones much.
  17. yea me too but now I added FsSimRate from flightdim.to
  18. Great thanks for the replies, now I can look into it.
  19. Since the last update my control R and + are not speeding up the flightsim rate, anyone else experiencing this and is there a work around?
  20. MSFS2020 does a great job of generating any IFR plan, then put it littlenavmap and modify it with improved approaches etc. Make all your own IFR low level or high level plans an save then in suitable continent or country folders, I even specify the type of plane used when it seems appropriate.
  21. At least I did find today the website that the Xbox app leads you to to find out if and when their server is in trouble and it was out most of today
  22. Spoke too soon, server must be messing up again, is is Asobo? A heads up would me nice on the flightsim main page. It would be nice to know before wasting time trying to load.
