  1. Hi Gary, Yes, the scenery has been very much improved. Have a look in Avsim for Aeroworx South African scenery. The mountain looks great, as does Table bay harbour. There's also our local Air Force Base, Ysterplaat (FAYP). There is a mesh that also adjusts the mountain and coastline. Regards, Robin
  2. Ok, so Windows 10 is not good for games that are older than 17 years... Surely that's expecting a bit much.
  3. Erm... It Has a real name.. I'm sure that you are aware that Microsoft have named their new sim Microsoft Flight Simulator, shorted to MSFS? Why use a so called community made up name? Popcorn time..
  4. The 9.1 update: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2795/flight-simulator-2004-update-v91/ The 8.1 nocd patch Install the update 1st, then replace the FS2004.exe with the patch https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/15244/microsoft-flight-simulator-2004-v91-no-cd-patch/
  5. Once you have it working when you can have multiple installs of FS2004: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?19087-How-to-Create-Multiple-Installs-of-FS2004
  6. Lol.. I just got a 1st warning, and my post deleted from AVSIM, in reply to a post that said P3D will die, when MSFS is released. My reply was that P3D is a commercial product, not for entertainment, & MSFS, according to its EULA, on their site, says its for non commercial use.. In my warning, I was told that AVSIM does not permit discussing P3D's licensing.
  7. Gracious... I thought I was in an Av__m forum for a moment. Well said, Larry!
  8. 1. Install into C:\ NOT into it's default C:\Program Files 2. Install the 9.1 updatel 3. Install the 9.1 patch 4. In the FS9.exe, select Properties 5. Select Compatibility mode, & select XP 6. At bottom, then select 'Run as Administrator' Thats it!
  9. Did you install into C:\ and NOT into C:\Program Files?
  10. Maybe post your query in the FSX forum, as this forum is for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator that will probably be released next year.
  11. Depends on how many are watching at the same time, & it could also be your PC buffering.
  12. 1. Are you trying to read a text document from a zipped file? 2. Are you trying to read a text file from an installed aircraft? 3. If you have Windows 10, & your sim install is in C:\ Program Files,then.. 4. If 3., Reinstall your sim into C:\ with the usual caveats, as described many times on the forums. 5. Ask in the correct forums please..
  13. Good stuff, Andy. I still have fun with your old stuff. FSA2004 still rocks, & it's sad to see the demise of the stalwarts of the sim. We miss you guys.
  14. Thanks, Colin. It's actually quicker to do than to explain. In fact, I also had an aircraft install that would only install when I ran the aircraft install exe under compatibility and as admin.
  15. Also, what must not be forgotten, that if you have a new PC With Windows 10, & you install an obsolete operating system, you WILL have driver issues, that the new hardware will not recognize. Having said that, over the years, I've upgraded from both Windows 7 & 8.1 to Windows 10, with never an issue, apart from updating a W7 graphics driver, & my current PC has all the updates.
  16. Not really, Tim. Made up names are a little confusing. So, you can also name the sim FS11111100100 then. (thats obviously binary) Why not just call it by it's proper name? FS2004 was actually released in 2003! It was never called FS2003 FSX was released in 2006.. Never called FS2006 FSX:SE in 2014, never named FS2014 So, trying to justify a made up name is redundant.
  17. Lol.. So, when Microsoft talks about Microsoft Flight Simulator, are you confused about which sim they are talking about? I'm sure people are not confused when they look at the forum title, and take it for granted that the contents thereof refers to the name of that sim. I'm sure that people are not confused, maybe you are an exception, by expecting that the forums named FS2004, FSX and Microsoft Flight Simulator will only consist of postings referring to those names. Really, common sense should prevail.
  18. LOL, it will not be like that. You will have 3 choices: On-line, Cache on-line, off-line. So, you will be able to set a cache size for streaming, so you will not have to repeat the stream when flying pattens over the same area, & obviously downloading. In another interview, the developers said that the whole area we saw was about equal to 60Meg to download.
  19. Indeed, the aim of the developers, as they have said, is to give us a 'as real as it gets' simulator, with 1000 points of contact per surface area, compared to a single point on FSX aircraft, on default craft... So, to have default aircraft with those features will be amazing.
  20. Reading between the lines, Maybe scenery can be pre-downloaded & used for off-line flying. Cache'ing would be saving scenery (caching), so when flying patterns, the same scenery will not have to be streamed again when flying over the same scenery. The size of the cache can be user defined, so the bigger storage area you define, the less duplicate scenery streamed.
  21. Here comes a curved ball... Have a look at FlightGear from https://www.flightgear.org/ It's free & gets updated on a regular basis. It has a great selection of aircraft & scenery, that can be download in game! It has a most amazing Shape Shuttle thats better than anything else out there. The scenery is actually better than a lot of paywre I've seen. As I said, it's all free & worthy of looking at.
  22. Well the name is as what Microsoft calls it. There is actually no ambiguity at all, We have FSX, P3D, FS2004, Ford releases a new car, we don't call it Ford 2020! In conversation we talk about FSX, P3D, XP or X-Plane, the new sim has it's name. Just respectful. This renaming started within another site's forum, with other random namings as well, FS20 amongst them. Flightsim.com has always been a 'cleaner' less rantfull & a less arrogant site. Lets not be like the other.
  23. As Nels said, in his original Welcome post: It's hard to avoid that the name is confusing, as there has been versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator going back decades. So just to be clear, this forum is for the upcoming version expected to be released in 2020 and which Microsoft themself are just calling just "Microsoft Flight Simulator". Can we all respect the fact that the developer of the sim has named it Microsoft Flight Simulator, & not FS 2020 or any other random name!
  24. Hi Ed, Remember that Microsoft Flight Simulator will be an entertainment product. It's a great idea of yours, but I think that, as Prepar3d (P3D) is a training (not for entertainment) product, maybe Lockheed Martin, the distributor & developer thereof, should be your point of call.
