  1. I have (hopefully) convinced the boss (wife) to allow me to get an upgraded graphics card for MSFS and my VR system. I am currently getting 15-18 FPS with my settings mostly medium (none are high). I would like to get an increase of FPS to around 30 so my VR is smoother and if possible, get my ingame settings to High. I have tweaked my system the best I can by watching You Tube videos, running Open XR toolkit, latest drivers etc. I am currently running an NVidia 1660 TI (6 gigs vram). Here is my motherboard-ASRock B660M-ITX/ac DDR4 Mini ITX, ARGB, WiFi, GbE LAN, 1 PCIe x16, 4 SATA3, 2 M.2 SATA/PCIe (also have a 600 watt power supply The rest of my system is in my specs. What I cannot do is change out my motherboard, or any other components. I know the 3090 would probably be the best one to get, but I cannot afford $1200 and up on a graphics card I have watched enough You tube videos that I am so confused about which is better etc..... So, which graphics card would be the best to get based on my system.
  2. Are there different servers for MSFS flyers in are physically located in different countries? I was watching a You tube video and the person in the video was talking about going to the Thailand server because that is where he lived. I've gotten a low bandwith message twice today, checked my speed, in to 550's mbpps, so I was wondering if it was possible to connect up to a closer server?
  3. To help you with this we will need your FULL system specs, motherboard, RAM, power supply (yes, that is important, if you have a PS that is near the max output and you add in a big GPU then you could suffer undercurrent which can affect performance.
  4. I too did not use any of the tutorials, and it did take me a few minutes to figure it out (ok, a while), but once I got the hang of it, it is my GOTO flight planning program. I enjoy going all over a city, looking at highlights etc., and LNM makes it easy. I just put in my departure and destination airports, then start adding my waypoints, the way I WANT TO GO, not the way MSFS would have me go :) If needed, I can adjust which waypoint I want to go as well. Like a previous poster mentioned, you will not blow up your PC. After a while I think you will find it is fun to use!
  5. Yes https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=little+nav+map+tutorial+
  6. I did a new install and all my key bindings did come over. However, my collection of Flight Plans did not :(
  7. Thanks for the reply back. I do have the trees and grass turned down, but the skyline does look the same. I will adjust my settings a bit to see if the parks pop in :) Thanks!
  8. It actually was very easy. I followed the directions (think it was a You tube video). Another user on the forum gave me a good tip, set up a key/button to turn the VR on and off, and a key combo to center your view (I use left Ctrl/Shift for that). When I land, I just switch the VR off and take the headset off. I do find that I need to wait a minute or so when I activate VR, I think it is loading graphics etc., once I wait and then take off it is awesome!!!
  9. I decided to fly around St Louis (first time actually) and visit the Gateway arch. I was not that impressed with the St Louis area, however, as stated before I had not flown over it, so I cannot compare the way it looks now to before. One interesting note, the Arch is not listed as a POI. I do have them turned on, over New York, Paris, Rome, London etc., there are dozen's of them, I expected the Gateway Arch to be one, but it was not.
  10. I don't think it is. I have a button on my joystick which will turn VR on and off. That is one way to go, however, the problem with that is, once it is turned off, you have to take the headset off, look at the gauges, then back on to continue flying.
  11. Because I don't have the "best" graphics card, there is a slight lag in the mouse interaction. I am using an Nvidia 1660 TI, with 6 gigs of video ram, and accourding to my Hardware Monitoring tool, I am using 99.1% of it :) Once I get used to it, it is not a problem. I don't have to chase the knobs, but I will miss the knob/button/switch from time to time and I have to slowly move the mouse back to where I want it. For me though, once I am up in the air, got the AP going, I am not using the mouse much at all. I am usually using the keyboard to switch from my drone camera to my cockpit views.
  12. I use HP Reverb G2 and yes, it can be worn with glasses. I know this because I wear glasses )
  13. I cannot answer everything you are asking, but I took the VR plunge and have LOVED it!!! I am able, using the mouse to flip switches etc. in the cockpit, interact with various other items inside as well. I have what I consider a medium grade graphics card, and using VR it sucks up every gig of memory the card has :) However, I am able to slight OC the card using MSI, the heat it produces is not bad, and it has enhanced the CR experience. Flying at night is wonderful, however, it is a strain on the system, but with various tweaks that I have found, I am able to fly reasonably well at night as well. the Open XR toolkit, plus watching a LOT of You Tube videos and advice from others on the forum have enhanced my VR experience as well. I love the fact that I can look ALL around at objects, the wife thinks its funny to see me looking around to my left or right (not in front of the screens) to see buildings, etc on the ground.
  14. I myself only use the Logitech Extreme 3D joystick, which suits my type of flying (and of course I use VR) I know others on the forum use other accessories and hopefully will be sharing their setup :)
  15. On occasion my sound will stop working (could be in MSFS, sometimes not). TO fix it, I just go to another window and load up a You tube video, and that fixes the problem. As for your controls, I would check your bindings. You may not have changed them, but updates do strange things and it is possible that something got changed (??)
  16. That is one of my all time favorite movies!! and don't call me Shirley!
  17. I would also suggest a reboot as well. Strange things happen when you don't reboot :)
  18. First of all-Welcome!!!! Second-ATC at times can be flaky. There have been a LOT of posts about the ATC trying to get them to go to one direction, go to a particular altitude (which their AC could not fly at etc), or it will work like it should. I personally don't listen to it, use it etc. However, that is me, I just like getting up into the air and flying while observing the scenery. A lot of simmers want the FULL experience, starting the AC in a cold state to push back from a gate, clearance from the ATC etc. I would suggest looking on you tube. There are a LOT of tutorials both for beginners and non beginners, you will learn a LOT from watching the videos. And asking questions that are not covered in the video's. Edit-some IFR tutorials -https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=msfs+ifr+tutorial
  19. Ummm, I am honestly a bit confused. You mentioned all Flight Sims have been the same, scenery to fly over (yea, that is true, but in MSFS I can now identify my house, I can see the blue roof of my place of employment (Owner got the roof cheap, lol) No reality when you land-this one really has me scratching my head, what are you expecting, to pull up to a parking spot in your GA plane, and have someone come out, put down wheel chocks (or whatever you call them), and then walk into a terminal? For me, I am happy that I have learned how to use ILS, put it on autopilot and just enjoy looking at the scenery. (yes, that is what I do, go 1000-2000 feet AGL up, put the AP on and then just look around in VR). When I land, I land, I exit the sim.
  20. Like Randy stated everyone has their own opinion's and here's mine- VR ROCKS!!!!! I am not going back to using my monitors and now that I have my VR and the settings adjusted it is awesome. MSFS 2020 looks WAY better then FSX did. Oh, and Cat's Rule
  21. Lol, that is good to hear :) I am happy I was of some assistance. I know how frustrating it can be trying to get this sim to work (when it was working). I have received a lot of help from this forum and was happy I assist you. And the pasta does sound good :)
  22. I just checked my settings under control option, Keyboard. Ensure that the Esc key is mapped to Toggle Pause. Perhaps you could assign another key or combo of key to do that??
