  1. Oh by the way, the nuns in the background are coming with me. Something about wanting to try out the local tap bars on the way down (up? Side? I didn’t look lol).

  2. So, I was thinking what aircraft to use. And just couldn't decide. Too many choices but none stood out. My wife noticed the confused look I had, and after giving her the reason, she suggested going somewhere relaxing for inspiration. So she suggested the beach. The beach she said would inspire me. Yes, I thought! The beach

So off we went. Enjoying the sun, sand and surf at the beach. Which is normally where you find that kind of stuff. The day progressed. And the more relaxed I became.  Yes, the beach made me so relaxed. And when I'm relaxed, I can think, And think I did. The beach gave me the thinking time I needed to decide on an aircraft.

I thought....and thought...and did more thinking, and thinked some more at the beach. I thinked myself silly. However, inspiration at the beach did not come.

"Take the kids for a swim. Maybe that will help?" my wife suggested.
    Yes good idea I thought!
"Come on kids, lets go for a swim!". Yay they shouted.  So off we went down to the water. Then it hit me. Of course!

    We don't have any kids.

"How the hell did you kids get here?! Who's kids are these? Here...here's $20."

    "what for?"

    "The bus ride home"

"We're too young to ride the bus alo.......

    "Get out here...shoo. Shoo! "

    Anyway...

...the beach provided no inspiration. I sat in a funk when I returned home. Until the phone ringing jarred me alert.
    "Hello? JSMR speaking".
    "JSMR....its Lauchlan O'Heed. "

"Oh Lock-Heed!! How are you? " (nickname for ol Lockie. Always locking himself out of the house).
"Yeah yeah. Thats me. Thought I tell you some exciting news. Since you're into aviation...and my brother is also. We went to an airshow at our local airfield. I won a ride in a vintage plane!"
    "Whoa nice!! What was it?"
    "It was a Beech 18".
"Wow, I've heard of them.  Hope it was fun to ride in?
"Oh yeah it was. A great plane. Perfect for touring I reckon!"

"Hmmm. ok  thanks for the call".

    Lets just google it...

Hmmm. Hmmmm some more. Amd more hmmmmming. A Beech 18 eh? Yes....

    Yes! A Beech 18! That's what I'll select. A Beech 18 it is!

If only I couldn't thought of that while I was at the beach.  Wonder if the kids made it home ok....

Take your time... I just spoke to the local FAA Rep who said he was going to "randomly" ramp check one of our entrants.

He asked me for suggestions as to a "random" choice.

    Wonder who I should suggest?

Well, somebody is entering with a previous bent and broken airframe. Not mentioning names…🤫

I don’t want to hit the various bits and pieces coming off it as I fly along!

Because…you know…that can happen. Probably. Could. Perhaps. Maybe. 🤓

  4. I only have the JBK Southern Cross. I wanted to download other Fokker Tri-Motors as I had an idea about wanting to base a Virtual Airline around Kingsfords-Smiths brief foray into running an airline using them. (Avro 618 Ten)

I got a nice little collection of biplanes in my Golden Wings install. An Auster.

A few classic early propliners (along with the usual Douglas DC variants and Connies) in my 'Classic' install - Boeing 247, Lockheed Lodestar. An Avro York!! Which has an amazing climb. Of almost none. 😄

Just need to start using them. 🤗

As long as there is a VOR at each airport, which I have not checked, then yes this would be the same thing.

One thing to keep in mind, VOV to VOR does not take into account time to climb, which the SkyVector planner does.

Yes that’s right. The flaw with the fs9 planner. So what waypoints as the sky vector vs fs9 could be different?

So cray cray. I searched every which way on simmarket and got nothing but the fsx version. Last thing I did before bed was email them if a download was available as I saw nothing for fs2004 on their site. Nice surprise to see them email me with a zip folder if the add-on. No support offered of course but happy to receive it as freeware!

Did a little test and she flies beautifully. Very nice add-on indeed. Will be perfect as I expand my United virtual airline to include some vintage routes with this one, the Tri-Motor and Boeing 247.

  7. Slowly catching up here. 🙃

Could we use a planned route from FS9….VOR to VOR etc, have it uploaded (technically it should be the same for all…technically) as we can use the knee pad to see the time differences etc?
It automatically puts down the leg estimate then actual. I’m sure it can be downloaded as a pdf but not sure. A screenshot would work.
The only catch is the speed estimates are based off the cfg. Which can be changed as not all are accurate to a good cruise setting. But once locked in, the result is the same. Estimate vs actual.

So we can run any aircraft?
We have to keep without our estimate time for each leg at the checkpoint? As was mentioned, like a car rally?

  8. Or....

Perhaps a short flight challenge from the Vintage era? Not sure if everyone has Golden Wings installed. Maybe a leg in a DH60 etc using the US mail route or between some of those Ford Trimotor Indian fields?

Head over the side stuff. :D

Perhaps trace the first trans-pacific flight flown by the Southern Cross.

Oakland to Hawaii to Fiji to Brisbane.

I'd say any vintage 2 or 3 engine aircraft would be appropriate.

We would keep track of the three leg times and overall flight time.

Post each leg as they are completed, with appropriate tales of daring that go with them.

Ha!!! I was just about to post the same thing. In real time. No autopilots. Haha. If you can’t stay awake for 30+ hours, you lose. 😝😅😅

It’s been a goal of mine to complete it. Disabling ctrl-s, no zoom, external views disabled, no autopilot. Bubble sextant only. Real time. No pausing. No slewing. No 8x speed.

My wife thinks I’m crazy. Struggling to have a comeback to that…🫣🤪🤓
