  1. Completed!!!

    FSW-CLE

    Start : 1500 (local)

    End : 1718

Height : 26000-31000 (Started at 26000 almost using up max rating. 2 mins before it ended climbed to 31000ft)

    Take off & climb : 61 / 3000  *15 mins limit

    Crz : 46 / 2700  (Max Continuous)

    Climb speed : 165 mph
    Start fuel : 120 gallons

    Finish fuel : 2.18 😱
Total time : 1:18 (to stop)

Cant say I had the best plan. The 2nd leg worked out teh same at slightly longer. I tried different descent profiles each time. Climb speeds. Heights. Fuel loads. The best I could do!

    Some screenies to come.

Thanks.   Not having to deal with strict realism helps;  in RL I doubt you could run a P-38 at 50mp more than 7-8 minutes without having to parachute home.

Having fun is the name of the game. 🙂

After my last leg for this race I want to try it non stop. See what time I get. Need to install an autopilot though!

Also want to see if the cfg will allow me to push the engine to 67 mp so I can try the 5 min war emergency limit. Must be a beast on initial climb!

  3. 3rd Leg in!

    HLZ-FSW

    Start : 1200 (local)

    End : 1315

    Height : 28000

    Take off & climb : 61 / 3000  *15 mins limit

    Crz : 46 / 2700  (Max Continuous)

    Climb speed : 180 mph
Start fuel : 140 gallons  (too much!!))

    Finish fuel : 29.19
Total time : 1:15 (to stop)

Bad leg! Too much fuel.  Ok descent. But terrible approach. Sheesh. I'll try and get some images. So annoying to try and convert them then upload to Imgur then post here.

Super power management JSMR!  I considered the same with the Fury but decided that finding another Bristol Centaurus (18) was beyond my cash reserves ...

The Fury is a raging animal waiting to be unleashed.
I reckon you’d had the best time also with a non-stop run.

Always carry a spare Bristol Centaurus with you..a good motto to live by. 😝✌️

That looks like a gauntlet that you just dropped; would you like me to pick it up? I'm praying for better weather on the run over to Ft. Madison.

But this is too much to hope for!

The P-51 has the 15 min limit at 61 mp. It actually has a 5 min limit at 67 called War Emergency power. We aren’t at war and this isnt an emergence nor which is modelled. So I cant use that much anyway.

I figured I can lighten the fuel a little more, based on the last run and this a little shorter leg. Max power, climb to 26000ft as quick as possible, and use the remaining mins at the max setting. Then throttle back to Max Continuous. 46 mp.
The power drops away as I climb so it doesn’t hold 61. By 18000 it’s maybe mid 40’s. I think this is where the 2nd stage supercharger (?) kicks in? And back to 61 climbing like hell to cruise height. Doesn’t take long.

Speed at that height and power setting is about 380kts. Seems to pretty accurate to the real thing at that height. 15 mins up, back to 46. And cruise at 343-345 kts. But I’ve made good ground, and also have the descent to pick the speed up.

So it was a good time recorded. So I’m in with a slight chance of a podium finish!

  6. First leg in!

    SMO-CEZ

    Start : 0830 Local

    Finish : 11:02 Local

    Height 31000 😮
    Power settings :

Take off & climb : 61 / 3000 which has max available for 15 mins (will post placard pic and its in the real manual 😜)

    Crz : 46 / 2700  (Max Continuous)

Climb speed : 210-220 mph (faster then recommended but seemed to be a happy medium for distance covered. Maybe was wrong)
    Start fuel : 150 gallons (38%)

    Finish fuel : 12.55  😬  (3%) lol.
    Total time 1:32

Sorry, not sure average speed. At cruise mostly around 355 kts.
Clear skies. No wind. standard temps. Low fuel but gambled at 31000 ft which in testing had best TAS, would have low fuel burn.

I'll post some pics. Need to convert them. No longer have the was once but no longer free photoshop 2 or whatever it was at the time.

I gave it a red hot go!! No match for that Sea Fury monster but I got as close as I could.

I flew the first leg again at max continuous (as max power is a little beyond the pale).  Wheels up at 8:00am (PDT), Touchdown at 10:29am (MDT).  Total Time 1:29.  Average Speed 519nm/1.483hr = 349kts.  Seems more appropriate and as such would like to make it official.

Each leg was flown at somewhat idealistic conditions with cool outside temperatures, few clouds and no tail or headwinds.  As such the numbers pretty much match the book.  Should I need to fly the legs again to reflect any specific minimums just let me know?  I would love to see what a 15-25kt tailwind would do for the numbers.

    If all good I’ll sign my scorecard and submit the following:  Leg 1 - 1hr 29m; Leg 2 - 1hr 19m; Leg 3 - 1hr 11m; Leg 4 - 1hr 15m.  Total Time - 5hr 14m.  Thanks for letting me fly the Sea Fury.  See you all in Cleveland!

Nice! That Sea Fury is such a beast. I'm flying a couple legs today. We might as well just hand the trophy to you. 👑💲💯

I brought up the 'fuel pump' deal just in case someone's interested in flying the Course in one shot instead of individual Legs.

Oooh. I'm starting to think this might be a good idea. My speeds are down on the Sea Fury, and Spitfire and somebodies P-38 (or was it the Mosquito?). I'm WELL off the pace!

Maybe I have the wrong altitude? Oh man.

Either way, tomorrow will either be the first leg, or to hell with it, I'll load her up with fuel and fly the whole damn thing in one stop. 🤨 😎

For the Actual Flight(s), how does this sound for the sake of uniformity... Clock starts at Throttle up. When you land, Taxi to the Fuel Pump, then Stop your Timer. Once you're full, taxi to the nearest(?) Runway. Start your Clock at Throttle up. Etc, etc...

That means a little planning to land on the Runway closest to the Fuel pump.

What do you think, folks? Please chime in... 🙂

I could be wrong think some like taofteda  have already done race legs? Is that right?
I'm happy either way although for simplicity, wheels up/down seems pretty simple and will be fair the B-29 which probably will be taxiing like an old truck around the airport. 😄
